13th Annual Pembina’s Pretty Ladies

Jackpot & ShowOnce again, the PTSA members have brought you their best heifer calves for the Pretty Ladies Jackpot. Only the top females were selected.

Judging commences at 1:00 pm, winner will be drawn at 2:00 pm.Rules of the Pretty Ladies Jackpot & Show:

1. Purchase a $50 ticket

2. With each $50 ticket, the purchaser has a vote in the judging of thePretty Ladies show and is entered in all sponsor draws.

3. You will be asked to evaluate the 2017 class of Pretty Ladies andprovide choices for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th placings on the form pro-vided. You will be given 30 minutes to complete this task upon which you will return the form to the PTSA vote tabulator.

4. At this time, all votes are accounted for and tabulated.

5. The results will then be announced. The 5 Pretty Ladies entries thataccumulated the most votes/points will be ranked in order from 1st to 5th. A heifer receiving a 1st place vote will be awarded 5 points, 2nd - 4 points, 3rd - 3 points, 4th - 2 points and 5th - 1 point.

6. The 2017 judge’s jackpot is $600. The person(s) who judges thetop 5 heifers in the correct order will claim the $600 prize money. If no one has the 5 Pretty Ladies in the correct order, we then award the judge(s) with the top 4 heifers correct with $300. If no one has the top 4 correct, we then award the judge(s) with the top 3 heifers correct with $150. If we have a tie, the jackpot money will be split evenly amongst the winning judges.

7. The PTSA will then draw from all the entry forms and select a luckywinner. The winner will be asked to select one of the Pretty Lady heif-ers. The selected heifer will sell through the PTSA sale and the lucky ticket winner will receive 50% of the chosen heifer’s selling price IN CASH! (Maximum cash payout will be $5000). As an added bonus, if the CASH PRIZE is used to purchase a heifer at the 2016 Pem-bina Triangle Sale you will be awarded an additional $500 toward your purchase. We will also draw the winners of the other door prizes listed below.

Welcome to the 37th Annual Pembina Triangle Sale.

As we gear up for the 2017 fall sales run the excitement and enthusiasm is always at a high with this group of PTSA breeders.

There is always the anticipation of the matings on the bred heifers to clip a substantial coupon on their first calf. Also the opens in the Pretty Lady Classic gives the buyers and sellers the opportunity to judge and speculate on who they feel deserves to be crowned the 2017 PTSA Pretty Lady.

As I tour through the respective pastures of each individual breeding operation, they all have one common goal. That is to bring their top end females that are functional and right for the times.

The group of bred heifers on offer are as powerful as you will find. Females that have thickness yet maintain some style and are bred to some of the industry’s top sires. The small, yet very select, group of open heifers come right from the top end of each breeders respective pens.

I always find it interesting traveling around how many breeders point out and say, “I bought her at the PTSA sale”. The sale has become very high on Simmental breeder’s lists as the place to source high-quality breeding females that go on and work. The high rate of return customers will attest to this.

Welcome to the 2017 Pembina Triangle Sale. This year we have once again dug deep into our replacement pen to bring you a complete set of heifers that from start to finish we are proud to have raised and sad to see go.

The group of four Fleck heifers we have brought to town are the type we look for when we are looking to add a great female to our program. They are all double goggled, dark red, good footed and easy moving. As a group we have never sold a thicker, more desirable group. As they con-tinue to develop we are more and more excited about their futures and what they will turn into and starting to second guess ourselves for offering them for sale. All of the Fleck heifers are bred to FGAF Jacuzzi 001C who we purchased as a heifer bull from Gagnons two years ago. We got him late so used him as a clean up the first year but the few calves we did get impressed us. Jacuzzi is a moderate framed bull with a nice small head and clean shoulder. We admire his thickness and apple shaped quarter.

The four Polled Red bred heifers that we selected are all very correct in their make-up, thick yet stylish females. This feminine group of heifers are ones that we feel will turn into cows that raise females you will retain in your herds. In this offering are the first set of bred females by Current Affair and Outlaw as well as one from the old faithful Wellington.

Full Fleck. Oakview Destiny has all makings to be a front pasture female. Her dam is one of our most feminine, fertile and heavily pigmented full Fleck cows. Sadie has produced both top end heifers as well as our high selling bull Oakview Titan 20Y (full sib to dam of 180D). Destiny is a heavily pigmented female with a smooth shoulder, clean front end and long spine. When it comes to picking a female who has everything going for her, it’s hard not to think of Destiny right away. Destiny’s maternal sister topped the 2015 Triangle sale selling to Gibbons Farms. These are the first group of United females we have produced and have been really impressed with the uniformity, performance and style they all carry. She follows the heifer catalogued before her perfectly. These two heifers share most of the same pedigree and as a result share some remarkable phenotypic similarities. Welcome to the 37th Annual Pembina Triangle Sale. As I complete writing this, I just sold my steers earlier this week. And the price received for them was much stronger than last year. Yearling steers over 900 lbs. brought $0.10/lb more than I got for my calves last year. And $0.30 -$0.40, more for my calves, which were heavier. And the good traditional Simmentals, brought very similar prices as the reds & blacks.

I am doing something different this year. All the consignments are polled and red or red blaze faced. All the breds are from my herdsire EGC Allstate 147A. They are all very consistent in size and shape, and came off the pasture in good condition. They are all bred early to another herdsire, Mar Mac Revolution 127C and the open heifer is sired by him.
