HEALTH AND WELLBEING Gymnastics and Parkour: We are developing our coordination and gross motor

skills. Whilst reflecting on strengths and planning next steps. Fitness: Develop an understanding that physical activity develops fitness, in

particular our stamina and core strength. Social Dancing: We are learning traditional Scottish dances for our Christmas

party. We are developing our rhythm and coordination. Learning about substance abuse: Knowing to never use someone else’s

medicine, being aware that we should store medicine in a safe place and knowing who is allowed to give us medicine.

INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNINGWe are continuing our topic Children’s Rights in Fairytales.

Winter Festivals Around The World Exploring different festivals and cultures to help build respect. Building our creativity through creating different arts and crafts. Understanding different groups of people have different heritage. Learning about different elements of winter festivals and understanding the

reasoning for them. Exploring the changing seasons in the environment around us. Creating writing inspired by Autumn and Winter seasons. Learning and developing organisation skills required for event planning.

Remembrance Day Understanding the significance of Remembrance Day. Learning about the different activities that happen for Remembrance Day. Linking Remembrance Day to circle time discussions. Using art to explore and talk about Remembrance Day themes.

Book Week Scotland (18th – 22nd November 2019) Encouraging us to read frequently for enjoyment. Understanding that literacy helps us in all areas of our lives.

EXPRESSIVE ARTSART We are learning different painting techniques and focus on

building observation skills through drawing. We are learning to create repeated patterns and focusing on lines

and detail. We are learning to use light and dark tones in our artwork.

DRAMA We are learning to present a Christmas play to an audience. We are learning to use expression in our voice and body.

MUSIC We will sing action songs and assembly hymns. We are learning our Christmas play songs. We are learning to sing to an audience.

RME (RELIGIOUS AND MORAL EDUCATION) We are exploring and discussing values and beliefs through stories from world

religions. We are learning to explain key features in world religions. We are exploring Christmas around the world.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGIES (INCLUDING ICT)

We are learning the pushes and pulls (forces) in our daily lives. We are learning about magnets and how they attract or repel. We are selecting materials for different tasks and considering how these will

impact on the experiments we are carrying out. We are developing our problem solving skills when we are solving technology

problems. We are learning to navigate menus and close applications. We are learning to find different programmes using the menu. We are developing word processing skills by typing documents (bullet points,

columns, alignment, changing size, font, colour, inserting shapes, page borders and pictures).

We are learning to save documents to the appropriate places and learning to reopen documents.

SKILLSWe are learning to:

Listen politely without interrupting. Work collaboratively in groups taking on specific roles. Be aware of the time set for tasks and learning to complete tasks within the

set time.

Each week, we will focus on one particular skill which links to our Hopeman Primary School values (Respect the Unicorn, Responsibility the Seahorse, Teamwork the Ant and Excellence the Dolphin), for example, ‘I can take turns’ or ‘I can share’. To ensure the learning is child-led and child-centred, at the start of each week, the children will discuss and decide what their whole class target will be.
