Athletes Unlimited is dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and adults with disabilities through year-round recreation and leisure programs. It is a non- profit organization founded in 1991 by parents of children with disabilities in Newton to support the City of Newton’s therapeutic recreation program.

The Newton Parks & Recreation Department has been providing year-round recreation programs for individuals with disabilities for over 38 years. A forerunner in community-based therapeutic recreation programs for people with disabilities, the department currently serves over 250 athletes with disabilities each year. The Newton Parks and Recreation Department would like to thank and congratulate all of the athletes, coaches, volunteers and families on another great year.

In the pages of this program you will find the names of our athletes, coaches, volunteers and supporters. You’ll also recognize in these names your neighbors, colleagues, family and friends. We are fortunate to live in a community that believes in inclusion and is working to make life better for all.

Tonight we celebrate the accomplishments of our participants and our partners. We’ve had a great year, both on and off the field. Participation, programming and partnerships are all growing – a reflection of the leadership of Mayor Setti Warren and the daily work of the Newton Parks and Recreation Department. We are also stronger through the volunteer work that shapes our organization and activities.

Tonight we honor our long serving Treasurer Paula Clancy whose decades of support have laid the foundation for what we are today. We are also honoring Joe Prestejohn of Cabot’s Ice Cream. Joe has supported us for years and, through that support, has demonstrated leadership that is an example for the community.

On the cover of tonight’s program you’ll see the “Life is Good” motto and we’re pleased to honor John Jacobs, co-founder of Life is Good, who believes in what we do and the vision we hold for our community. To our athletes, coaches, volunteers and family members – your work, support, participation and caring for each other makes “Life is Good” true everyday.
