PROJECT OVERVIEWIn June, the City and County of Denver and its contractor SEMA Construction Inc., began construction of the 39th Avenue Greenway Project. The Project will create a 1-mile-long, 12-acre recreational greenway along 39th Avenue between Franklin and Steele Street. The main goal of the project is to reduce the risk of flooding to nearby residents and businesses. The new greenway has been designed with community input to include a wide range of amenities: • A multi-use trail for bikes and pedestrians • Activity plazas with seating areas and shade

structures • Nature play areas • A community garden • An amphitheatre/outdoor classroom • Specialty seating and lighting • Pedestrian bridges

PROJECT UPDATEConstruction continues on 39th Avenue Greenway project. As of the end of November, the project is 18% complete. Asphalt has been removed and several underground water, storm and sanitary pipes have been relocated. Crews broke ground at Coca-Cola facility, and started work on the south end of the new bridge.

In addition, crews cut into the existing 120” storm sewer (built nearly 100 years ago), incorporating it into the current design to assist in the conveyance of stormwater.

The following project milestones have been completed this quarter: • 1,216 linear feet of dual 10’ x 8’ culvert boxes

(for stormwater drainage) placed • Nearly 100,000 lbs. of reinforced steel installed • 154 cubic yards of concrete poured • 895 linear feet of bridge piling

Construction Work Hours

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. When vibration operations are directly adjacent to residential or business properties, hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

UPCOMING WORK AND TRAFFIC IMPACTS Construction crews began on the west-side of the project near Blake and 40th Street. Work will continue to progress east, along 39th Avenue. The project is scheduled for completion in June 2020. Starting in late December through early 2019, crews will be constructing two pedestrian bridges, located at Gilpin and High Streets, and two vehicular bridges at Williams and York Streets. Single lane and intersection closures can be expected. The closures near Blake and 40th Street should reopen in early 2019.
