1INTRODUCTION

It seems that everywhere we look today things are moving faster and faster.

Everyone is looking for that shortcut. Even in the way we talk we look to

speed things up. Slang, contractions, and acronyms are seen and heard

everywhere. It is with the acronyms, however, that most people become

confused. Every sector of our lives has its own acronyms. Nowhere,

however, are they more prevalent than in the work place; and today’stelecommunications industry is no exception. The Vocabulary that follows is

a list of telecommunications acronyms and their meaning.

In some cases only the words that the letters of the acronym represent will be

provided; others will go into more detail. Some acronyms have more than one

meaning. In those cases an attempt has been made to provide both meanings.

Note

In no way is this document intended to be all-inclusive, nor should it be taken as

the ultimate word. It is intended to be used as a quick reference guide to help

you become familiar with telecommunication terminology.

We at Nokia hope you will find it useful.
