We envision a world where health and wellness are readily accessible toall. We are committed to improving health disparities within our medical

community. Our goal is to inspire and nurture the next generation ofBlack doctors. Our approach to this mission is threefold:

Since its founding in 2016, ABPA has awarded 26 MCAT preparation course scholarships to Black pre-med students enrolled at Texas colleges and universities. These scholarships are valued at $2,800 each and allow students to enroll in a comprehensive MCAT preparation course, including full-length preparation exams, free of charge. Our annual fundraising gala allows us to generate monies toward scholarships and other programs.

Scholarship Program

ABPA members hold key positions at the Dell Medical School and workclosely with the Black Health Professions Organization–MAPS Chapter at The University of Texas. ABPA Board members lead outreach initiatives, including coordinating student shadowing programs and interacting with students at student/physician networking events at both UT and Huston-Tillotson University.

Mentoring and StudentOutreach

ABPA members regularly participate in Role Model Fairs at Austin ISD schools with high minority populations. During the upcoming school year, ABPA will extend this outreach to the Pflugerville and Round Rock school districts. ABPAmembers also participate in health fairs and numerous other community events.
