Hemlock Year 9 and 10 students were entertained last week by Hemlock the Acrobat. As a finish to their dance and gymnastics units the students were wowed by his acrobatic and circus tricks. Following his show, 30 students participated in a hands-on workshop where they learnt to juggle, balance a pole on their hands and heads, balance in groups and jump on the mini tramp.

Goss From The Boss Last Wednesday evening Mulwaree Rocks, our tribute to great music, was held in the school hall. This is the 9th year of performances and goes hand in hand with Mulwaree Unplugged and Mulwaree On Show as showcases of the performing arts at our school. It has been hailed as the best yet and, unlike the Olympics organisation, the standard was extremely high.

Where else can young people show their talent and interest in such a positive manner? My thanks to Mr Lieschke and his team, in particular, Mr Wood, Mr Bennett and Miss Cooke for their work in providing a very real night of excellence. The School of Rock’s ‘Eagle Rock’ was a nostalgic highlight for me … next year I know that they will perform a Beatles song to make their repertoire complete. Thanks, also, to Mrs Cranston, Mr Armstrong and the SRC for their help on the night. In conjunction with Mulwaree Rocks, we held a display of our HSC major works. Whilst much more sedate, the

completed works were, nevertheless, of a very high standard. Strolling amongst the art works and textile designs in the Speech and Drama Room was a wonderful experience. Mrs Cranston and Miss Burgess deserve great credit for the extra work they do to support our students in achieving such wonderful exhibits. I look forward to the results from Visual Arts and Textiles. I know that they will be excellent and well deserved. Our cricket teams roll on with a Senior boys win over a powerful Moss Vale High School. The high powered game, played in great spirit, had all the hallmarks of a riveting match. Congratulations to the boys and their coach, Mr Stevenson as they move into the next round against Bowral. Our warm weather heralds in our final exams and they begin this week. These are important as they go towards our students’ reports and ultimately their classes in 2015. After the exams Years 7-9 will continue with their required work up until the end of Term 4 whilst Year 10 will begin their Senior preparation with their Year 11 taster courses. Year 11 have now begun their inevitable march towards the HSC. Mr Purcell Principal

Year 11/12 Urban Geography Excursion Last week both HSC Geography classes embarked on an excursion to inner city Sydney to study how urban dynamics shape Australia’s largest city. The day started early (5:30am to be exact) and the students experienced the true nature of the daily life for Sydney suburban commuters (standing room only). After presentations in Circular Quay we embarked on a ferry ride around the harbour to investigate features of Sydney’s urban landscape. After a quick stop in Darling Harbour for some lunch we headed into trendy inner city Pyrmont to examine how government planning policies promoted a

complete regeneration of the suburb over the past 20 years. A great day was had by all and this first-hand experience will be of vital help in their HSC exam next year. Mr Wolter

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
