RECOGNIZING JESUS
St. Peter speaks to us twice today. In the first reading, we hear an excerpt from his sermon on Pentecost; in the second, part of his first Letter. Once a frightened, uneducated fisherman who often said just the wrong thing, now Peter is speaking what he knows to be true. Everything Jesus had said now makes sense. His death and rising were all part of God’s plan, and our faith and hope can be centered on God.
Today’s Gospel tells the story of Jesus’ walk to Em-maus with two of the disciples. Frightened, sad, and confused, the two don’t recognize Jesus, who tells them what we heard Peter say above: all this had to happen as part of God’s plan. In the end, these disci-ples recognize Jesus as we are to recognize him—in the breaking of the bread. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — God has raised the crucified Jesus, who now pours forth the Holy Spirit upon us (Acts 2:14, 22-33). Psalm — Lord, you will show us the path of life (Psalm 16). Second Reading — Our faith and hope are in God who raised Jesus from the dead (1 Peter 1:17-21). Gospel — Through his words and in the breaking of the bread, the risen Christ made himself known to two disciples on their way to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35).

OUR FAMILIES
Excerpt from “Letter to Families from Pope John Paul II, Gratissimam Sane”
“...man is the only creature on earth whom God willed for his own sake. God “willed” man from the very
beginning, and God “wills” him in every act of conception and every human birth. God “wills” man as a being similar to himself as a person. This man,
every man, is created by God “for his own sake”. That is true of all persons, including those born with sick-
nesses or disabilities. Inscribed in the personal consti-tution of every human being is the will of God, who wills that man should be, in a certain sense, an end
unto himself. God hands man over to himself, entrust-ing him both to his family and to society as their re-sponsibility. Parents, in contemplating a new human being, are, or ought to be, fully aware of the fact that
God “wills” this individual “for his own sake.”
This concise expression is profoundly rich in meaning. From the very moment of conception, and then of birth, the new being is meant to express fully his
humanity…
...Our human will is always and inevitably subject to the law of time and change. The divine will, on the other hand is eternal. As we read in the Book of the
Prophet Jeremiah: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you” (Jer 1:5). The genealogy of the person is thus united with the eternity of God, and only then with
human fatherhood and motherhood, which are realized in time. At the moment of conception itself, man is
already destined to eternity in God.”

OPERATION TEDDY BEAR
The Forget-Me-Not Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that is dedicated to helping orphans, disabled and terminally ill children.
The current goal of Operation Teddy Bear is to bring Ukranian orphans to America where they will share
in the lives of loving families, encounter life in a church community and develop lasting relationships. Many of these children have never walked a beach, seen a movie, ridden a bicycle or experienced the
love and protection of a family
By purchasing a lush Guardian Angel Teddy Bear for $10, these orphans will have a chance at happi-
ness and a better quality of life. The bears are avail-able in ice pink, cloud white and powder blue.
Dr. Bernadette Gabrielson, CEO and Founder of For-get-Me-Not Foundation will be here the weekend of May 31st and June 1st to make these bears available
for purchase. All donations are tax deductible. Checks can be made out to:

Do Sosny Polskiej
Gdzie winnice, gdzie wonne pomarańcze rosną, Ty, domowy prostaku, zakopiańska sosno. Od matki i sióstr oderwana rodu, Stoisz sieroto, pośród cudnego ogrodu. Jakże tu miłym jesteś gościem memu oku Bowiem oboje doświadczamy tego samego wyroku, I mnie w cudzej ziemi czs życia ucieka. Czemuś, choć cię starania czułe otoczyły i opieka Nie rozwinęłaś wzrostu ? – utraciłaś siły ? Masz tu wcześniej słońce i rosy wiośniane A przecież gałązki twe bledną pochylone. Więdniesz, usychasz – Smutnaś wśród kwietnej płaszczyny I nie ma dla ciebie życia – bo nie ma Ojczyzny ! Drzewo wierne ! Nie zniesiesz wygnania, tęsknoty. Jeszcze trochę jesiennej i zimowej słoty, I padniesz martwe !
