1 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea,2 and all of them were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.3 All ate the same spiritual food,4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was the Christ.5 Yet God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the desert.6 These things happened as examples for us, so that we might not desire evil things, as they did.10 Do not grumble as some of them did, and suffered death by the destroyer.11 These things happened to them as an example, and they have been written down as a warning to us, upon whom the end of the ages has come.

12 Therefore, whoever thinks he is standing secure should take care not to fall.

St. Paul is preaching to the Corinthians by using historically verifiable events.Moses led the captives to freedom through the waters of the Red Sea, and the cloud of the Holy Spirit was with them. In the same way, Baptism requires both the Holy Spirit (Cloud) and the water (sea).

Also there is no distinction regarding the age of those passing from freedom through the sea both infants and adults were led to freedom, just as they are freed from sin in Baptism. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 16 All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Paul is making the point that when trouble enters your life we should not grumble against God nor put Him to a test, no, what we need to do is ask ourselves three important questions which will lead us to a solution.1. What sins do I have that are unconfessed?2. Do I have any unresolved conflicts in my life, am Icarrying a grudge, focusing on earthly treasure or being jealous?3. Have I given my worries to the Lord? Philippians 4:6 Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.We can not stand alone, we need God. 1 Cor. 10:12 Therefore let any one who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
