    Dos

    1. Jack out the card from RAX Cabinet

    2. Put the card on a clean flat surface.

    3. Using tweezer or small screw driver lift the PROM from its location, say

    U22.

    4. Pull EPROMs slightly from one end and then slightly from the other end

to avoid bending of pins of the EPROMs.

    5. Now, select the EPROM with sticker displaying position U22 and keep its

notch in the same direction in which the notch of the base

    6. Now carefully place it on the IC base meant for it and press it gently, so

that all its pins are inserted properly into the base.

    7. Ensure that no pin of the EPROM is bending outwards or inwards.

    8. Repeat this procedure for the other EPROMs on all cards.

Step 5 Jack out all RSC cards (active/passive /out of service). Replace EPROMs

with those of version 4-2-1 .as per section 2.3.1. Replace cards in masterand slave frame and jack them in .

Card Type No. of EPROMs to be changed

    RSC 2

Step 6 Jack out passive /Out of service RAP card. Replace its EPROMs with

V4-2-1 EPROMs and replace it in master frame BUT DO NOT JACK IN.

Card Type No. of EPROMs to be changed

    RAP 2

Step 7 Jack out active RAP . Replace its EPROMs with those of V4-2-1 and jack

    in the card.

Step 8 Switch power ON, and wait till system comes up as simplex active.

    1) Take meter printouts and verify that there is no abnormality with

respect to pre -retrofit readings .

    2) Make outgoing and I/C calls to and from connected exchanges to

verify proper functioning of the exchange.

Step 9 Login as super user, insert passive RAP, and reset it. Recovery will start

now and system will come to duplex active.

Step 10 Check all cards for healthy status. Give command for copy changeover &

verify proper working in other copy also.

Note :A field exchange may be in one of the following states :

    1) Duplex active

    2) Simplex, with duplicate copy cards present and healthy but out of service

i.e. not jacked in (this may be due to faulty/missing PROMs in one of the

    cards).

    3) Simplex with duplicate copy cards missing or faulty.

For state 1 and 2, follow all the above steps to bring system to Duplex active.

For state 3, follow steps 1 to 9 so that all available cards are updated with

latest s/w version and can be used later when repaired cards arrive to bring

    system to Duplex.

    S/W REL. V4-2-1 RETROFIT PROCEDURE FOR 256P RAX 11

2.5. FEATURE DETAILS, HARDWARE CHANGES AND NEW COMMANDS

2.5.1. Provision of Selecting External Clock for Network Synchronization

    2.5.1.1. Feature Details

To support Internet connectivity at high speeds there is a need to synchronizeRAX to the network. For this purpose new hardware has been introduced in

256P-RAX. This new hardware is RNS card (RAX NETWORK

SYNCHRONISATION CARD APC-RNS892/T-S00). RNS card can extract

clock from the reference PCM link (E1 link) coming from network,

synchronize with it, and give synchronized output to RAP card. In case PCM

Link is down, it will then supply its own freerun clock, which is better than

    RAX Clock.

    2.5.1.2. Hardware Requirements

    1. Additional components should be mounted on RAP card as per ECN14112A list of these components is given in the table below :

    2.5.2.1. Feature Details

RAX can now support a maximum of five PCM links (E1 links). A new card is

introduced to support this feature. This new card is RAX WLL

CONTROLLER (RWC) card. Each RWC card can support upto two E1 links.

These cards can be equipped in slave frame only in slot 10 and 17. These

can be configured for one PCM link (RWC DT30) or two PCM links (RWC 2x

    DT30).

2.5.3. Support for charging on INMARSAT calls

    2.5.3.1. Feature Details

INMARSAT calls i.e. 00871, 00872 etc. can be charged as per applicable pulse

rates of 150ms or 260 ms with some limitations. Minimum charging possible

for these type of calls is in unit of 100ms or multiple thereof. These pulsescan not be transmitted over the trunks to the preceding exchange, hence

charging can be done for RAX subscribers only.

For 150 ms pulse rate, charging will be done at the rate of 2 pulses at every

300ms. For 260 ms pulse charging will be done at the rate of 5 pulses at every

    1300ms.

2.5.3.2. Steps to be followed for creation and charging of INMARSAT routes

    1. Create all required INMARSAT Routes with PRIM TAX option as No.

    2. Define charge pulses (i.e. number of pulses along with charge period in

hundred of milliseconds) for these routes. e.g. For 150 ms Pulse rate

the charge period is 03 and pulse is 2

    3. CRI defined for these routes should not be D, E or F

2.5.6. Uniform access restrictions through admin commands and

    Subscriber control activation

    2.5.6.1. Feature Details

All subscriber access levels i.e. special services, local, regional STD, STD and

ISD can now be enabled in any required combination through MMI

commands. For this purpose Special Service is divided into two categories i.e.

Special Service Emergency only and Special Service All calls. If a subscriberhas Special Service Emergency only facility, then he can dial only Level 1

Emergency Service calls. If he has Special Service All calls, then he can dial

all level 1 calls. This change provides an admin equivalent for certain

combinations, which could be defined through dynamic OG restriction feature

from subscriber, but not through MMI commands in earlier release.

    2.5.6.2. Modification in MMI Commands

There are changes in the MMI commands for programming `Special Service

allowed/barred for a subscriber. The new MMI command is as follows :

    2.5.7. Support for collect calls

Subscribers having outgoing access up to local only can now access Collect

    Calls i.e. 000 calls

    2.5.7.2. MMI For Collect calls

No new MMI is added for this feature

2.5.8. System threshold violation report for TAX routes based on charge

    units for a call

    2.5.8.1. Feature Details

It is possible to define a threshold for TAX calls. Whenever this threshold is

crossed during a TAX call an alarm in the form of threshold violation report

is generated on printer. If call is originated from the same RAX, the calling

subscriber number is printed but if RAX is acting as transit for TAX calls

then only I/C junction port number is printed to identify the exchange from

which call is originated. There is one threshold value for the whole system.

    2.5.9.1. Feature Details

RAX stores current time every 10 secs in the System NVRAMs. If due to any

reason system is reinitialized, the system will be restored with the last time

stored in the NVRAM. This time will be very close to current time in case of

    Annexure I

Procedure for Mounting of Componentson RAP Card for Network

    Synchronisation

Please refer Fig-1 for a layout for mounting of these components. Since no

components were previously mounted at these positions the corresponding

Plated Through Hole (PTH) on the PCB will be filled with solder.

These PTH have to be first cleared using a desoldering pump and soldering

iron. Care should be taken not to damage the PTH and the associated tracks

    on the PCB.

Cut the excess leads of the resistances to be mounted at R21, R35, R40 and

capacitance to be mounted at C63.

Now mount these components and solder them one by one. Care should be

taken to mount the IC U59 and resistance network RN2 with proper polarity.

Clean the PCB where these components are mounted with Isopropyl Alcohol.
