Solar PV Certification Scheme

What is it?

Independent certification of solar PV

installations

Applies to:

Building-mounted PV

50kW and above

Grid-connected (LV distribution network)

New or existing PV systems

Solar PV Certification Scheme

– Demonstrates quality, performance,

reliability and safety

– Gives confidence to investors and system

owners

– Based on IET Code of Practice for grid

connected PV Installations (with some

enhancements)

Pilot project: Plymouth Life

Centre 225kW

Developed by PEC renewables,

Certification Process

Solar PV Certification Scheme

• Application to join the scheme

• Design assessment

• Installation assessment

• Certificate awarded & online listing

• Ongoing maintenance of certification

Certification stage 1: Design Review

Assess designs against the scheme requirements

(based on CoP+)

Includes: component specification, electrical and

mechanical calculations, drawings, plans,

documentation, energy yield sense check.

Solar PV Certification Scheme

Certification stage 2: Installation Quality Assessment

Onsite inspection to assess

compliance with:

System design

Regulations

Best practice

Solar PV Certification Scheme

Certification stage 3: On-going surveillance

After each year of operation:

1. Performance check

2. Maintenance records

After each 3 years of operation

(assuming no issues):

3. Site inspection

Solar PV Certification Scheme

Extra Requirements (over and above CoP)

Examples

– Quality process for DC connections & electrical

enclosures

– Lightning strike Risk Assessments

– Clear structural assessment requirements

– Thermal imaging

– As-built shading

– MCS012 for pitched roofs

– O&M procedures
