• Availability: year-round• Color: white• Fragrance is sweet• Requires special wiring techniques to be used in

design work• Stem is slender and tubular approximately 1² to 1

Ratio Mark-up:

• The method of calculating price based on the wholesale cost of items, simply doubling, tripling the wholesale price.

For example:

• 1 rose = $.85 wholesale• 3x mark-up =• $.85 X 3= $2.55• Can be customized by business• Can use graduated scale so cheap flowers are

marked up more and expensive flowers less.– Flowers costing less than $.50 are marked up 4X– Flowers costing more than $2.00 are marked up 2X

Types of Items

• Supplies & Plants – do not require any additional labor X 2

• Basic Arrangements, budvases, wreaths & sprays – some value added X3

• Special arrangements, wedding flowers, corsages, - much labor or planning time invested X 4

• Florist’s time and labor is not free

Example

• A customer wants bouquet of a dozen roses

• This is a basic arrangement so it would be marked up 3 times

• Each rose costs $0.90

• $.90 X 12 = $11.80 X 3 = $35.40

• You may need to add more for foliages & fillers

Reverse

• A customer wants to spend $36 on a corsage

• This is a more labor intensive product so the mark-up would be X 4.

• In this case we want to know how much the wholesale cost of the flowers should be so we divide by 4.

• The flowers and supplies to make the corsage should cost no more than $9.
