TOPIC: HOLIDAYS AND CELEBRATIONS

Objectives:- to train students to use topical vocabulary, ordinal numerals and structures in Present

Simple;- to train students in speaking, listening, reading, writing;- to teach students to write invitations;- to train students to speak about holidays;- to broaden students’ outlook;- to develop students’ memory and intellectual ability;- to teach students to respect each other.

Equipment: textbooks ( O.Karpiuk “English-4”, 2015), cards, a poster with the pictures and names of the holidays, a CD with the texts and songs, a video song “Happy Birthday” (film “Elvin and Chipmunks”)

PROCEDUREI. GreetingT: Good morning, dear friends. I’m glad to see you. How are you feeling today? I hope you are fine and you will be energetic and active at the lesson.

II. AimToday we are going to speak about holidays and celebrations in Ukraine and Great Britain, you will listen to the information about some of the British Holidays and of course you will read about the most favourite children’s holiday birthday.By the end of the lesson you will be ready to speak about holidays and celebrations.

III. Warming upBrainstormingT: To begin with, let’s revise the names of some of the holidays, which are very popular in our country. This poster can help you.

- listeningBRITISH HOLIDAYSThere are many holidays in Great Britain. Some of them are very popular, other holidays are not so popular. New Year is the first holiday of the year. It is on the first of January. But it is not so popular as Christmas is. The most favourite English holiday is Christmas. People celebrate it on the twenty fifth of December. Another winter holiday is St. Valentine’s Day. It is on the fourteenth of February. Easter is the most important religious holiday. It is in spring. Mother’s Day is on the first Sunday of May. In autumn English people have Halloween. It is on the thirty first of October. It is a very funny holiday.

VIII. Summing up. Home assignment T: It’s a pity, but time flies. Our lesson is over. What activity do you like more? Look at the board. You can see seven cakes on the board. Every cake means an activity at the lesson – mind map, speaking, listening, PT-break, reading, playtime-poem, writing.
