HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGE

Research and planning Within the research and planning stages I used YouTube to search for

videos to embed into my blog posts to show existing media products. Due to the wide range of videos YouTube allowed me to gain vital and plentiful information. The only problem with YouTube is that sometimes the videos are bad visual or audio quality so you have to be careful with what videos you use.

Also using search engines like Google and internet explorer enabled me to get lots of relevant information about existing media products. As the

internet is popular and vast it is easy to get a great deal of information on most subjects and the best way to do things such as questionnaires. However on google there are websites such as Wikipedia that aren't

particularly reliabel so when finding information you have to be careful which pieces you select and which you ignore

To arrange interviews I used a College service called Tyber that allowed me to message members of staff to organise when they would be able to be interviewed making the arranging process much easier and hassle free.

To produce the information in the research and planning stage I used the two main programmes on a computer, PowerPoint and word. These two programmes are easy to layout information professionally and made easy to follow and read. I used work and PowerPoint for things like the questionnaire and documentary codes and conventions.

There are online services that change PowerPoint presentation and word documents into more interesting pieces of information. The services I used are called Prezi,

Scribd and slideshare. The conversion from the original document to the more interactive ones make the information a lot better and easier to understand overall

making the document a skilled piece of work. I generally used these services when word or PowerPoint were used so for things like magazine analysis and narrative

structure. Finally in the research and planning stages I used blogger and a scanner to put

information onto my blog. I used the blog to put things straight onto the blog for things that required minimal information such as the proposal and the brief. The scanner/mobile phone was used to upload images of paper such as the logging sheets so that it is easy to understand and see as they can be quite hard to see without high quality hardware used.

Production To create our products we used three pieces of software, premier to create the

documentary, garage band to create the radio trailer and InDesign to create the double page spread. All of these software are created to produce high quality products and have a range of tools and effects to make the final products seem more realistic. Using effects such as blur and transitions gave the documentary subtle features that made the product look higher quality. But because these software are for professionals we couldn’t use them to the best of their ability as we haven't had a long amount of time to get used to all the advanced features so we were limited to using the basic.

To obtain clips, pictures and audio for the three products we used a range of hardware a digital camera, tripod, headphones and a microphone. The digital camera was

obviously used to obtain clips for the documentary and to get images for the double page spread. The good thing about the digital camera is that you are able to view the

images after you have taken them so you can see if the shot is good or bad. But as they run on batteries there were incidents where they didn't work and we had to

charge them. The tripod was simply used to make sure the camera w3as balanced so that the shots where level when we took them making the documentary a better

quality. The microphone was used to get good quality audio for the documentary and radio trailer as the audio from the digital camera isn't very good. The only bad thing

about the microphone is how sensitive it is as it can pick up minor sounds ion the background so some audio files had to be scrapped because of background noise.

Finally the headphones are used to simply hear the audio that is being recorded.

Evaluation Within the 4 evaluation questions I used the same software that I used in the research

and planning. Powtoon, prezi and slide share. I used these three as they are the best software top create documents on as they are simple, easy and quick to use. They allow me to get my point across very well making it easier for people to read, understand and follow without getting lost in information.
