Time flies. And what do you know? Bubuhan has entered the 23rd edition in its fourth year. It’s a long road for the Community Development PT Indo Tambangraya Megah, Tbk. in introducing the community to empowerment products that has been done and also the ones that will be done in Ring I and Ring II, fostered areas of the subsidiaries. Innovation never stopped being created in order to improve the relationship quality of the company with the community and other stakeholders. Similar with the programs and the assisted training that has been given, the CDO will never stop learning and creating. We will continue sharing knowledge and science education. Each of the economic development programs that have been carried out was created

so the community really understands with every important step that they do in their life. For example, the rubber cultivation program in Lotaq Village, CDO of PT Trubaindo Coal Mining not only gives seeds and fertilizers but also help the Lotaq villagers in understanding the right techniques to cultivate rubber through many training. Not wanting to focus only in the local economic development, there are also trainings to increase the quality of education and health. We never forget the important role of the government to the strategic planning of the area, for the implementation we always make sure the related authority is involved to the project such as the Plantation and Animal Husbandry Department, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperative, and also other department. It is meant

Greetings,

The Community Development activity is also known by other term, that is community empowerment, the words tell special meaning about sustainable independence. From the plans and steps that were prepared and also the ones that have been done before, that were related to community empowerment, there is one that is called training. The training itself was needed to be done in order to increase the competencies of the people who are related to the community development program. Applied concept trainings, including skill training were created for the CDO, community and also for the assisted companies (ITM and the whole sites/mining area). The training themes and topics were adjusted due to the needs in each field about understanding the community development program in general (the definition, goals, and strategy) and its special program. Common training is the fundamental and basic level of community development training and advanced to the CDO and stakeholder. The training programs were rubber plantation (TCM), paramedical personnel training (Bharinto), teacher training (Indominco) agribusiness entrepreneurship training (Kitadin Embalut), fishery and finance training/LKM-economic enterprise (Jorong). The training activity was implemented by the company collaborating with third parties such as the government and private company. Each of them has their own role in the community development program, such as; the government as the regulator, community as the subject, and the company acted as the facilitator. Let’s hope that through these training, the quality of knowledge and understanding about this community development activity could increase. So by the time the company closes the mining, the community should be able to achieve their sustainable independence, maximally.

In this globalization era, the economic situation demand tighter competition between one economic

player with the other. The key is creativity and persistency. This is where the Sasirangan Group from the fostered village of PT Jorong Barutama Greston, Karang Rejo Village, competing with other economic player. Unlike other common naturalist painter that always painted nature exactly to what the eyes captured, the batik sasirangan craftsmen painted nature from a deeper angle, so they always brings out more meaningful creation. The batik sasirangan craftsmen always find basic pattern from any phenomenon that they see. Then from the basic pattern, they added a couple simple rule, and so that is where their beautiful pattern came from.

Persistence and diligence is needed to acquire the basic pattern and to seek out the rule. Whether many people realize or not, the work of batik sasirangan craftsmen is quite similar to the work of a physicist. For example, a

batik creator wants to paint a splash phenomenon. He cannot just paint it casually; he would have to think it through to find the base pattern of the water, in this case a triangle. After that, he looks for simple rule to develop the pattern such as reducing the form of the triangle by folding it over and over, and then rotate the triangle a couple degrees. If the motif were to be created in the computer, then the triangle will perform a shape of water.

New Innovation from Karang Rejo Batik Sasirangan Group

The work of batik sasirangan

craftsmen is quite similar to the work of a

physicist.

From this we know that batik sasirangan is an unfinished painting taken from nature phenomenon.

The excellence of this motif creator of batik sasirangan lies in their capability in searching the right basic pattern and also simple rules without using computer technology. “Now, what is the correlation between physics and batik sasirangan?”. In making batik sasirangan, the craftsmen always try to understand the message that they want to deliver in the pattern that they drew. Very interesting right?

This time, Karang Rejo Sasirangan Group is trying to find new innovation for their product, which is by applying sasirangan motif to various type of materials such as silk clothing, spring silk, pineapple fiber and cotton. There are two different types of cotton; those are light cotton and Jappanese cotton.

Recently this Karang Rejo Sasirangan Group also tries to apply the sasirangan batik pattern in other products such as pencil case, glass mat /lid, and tissue case. For next step, this group is also planning to make women’s dress using jersey material that is currently in trend. But before implementing the plan, there will be a market review, to re-examine what the market really wants on the model and the shape.

The collections that have been created by Karang Rejo Sasirangan Group are; men’s t-shirt, scarf, phone wallet, bag, cap and hand fan.

The Great Seaweed HarvestSpecial Reward for Indominco Fostered

Fisherman Group “Hidup Baru” fromThe East Kutai Regent, Isran Noor.

Wednesday, 21st September 2011, PT Indominco Mandiri (PT IMM)

together with Fisherman Group Hidup Baru conducted harvest feast, the event was attended by East Kutai Regent, Isran Noor. Beside the Regent, the government people from East Kutai area also attended the event; there are Kapolres East Kutai-AKBP Prasojo Wiboro, Head of Transportation Department in East Kutai – Johansyah Ibrahim, Head of Marine and Fishery Department, Dandim Inf-Husni Mubarak and Danlanal Leutienant Colonel of Marine – Yudi Bramantyo from the Navy.

The Seaweed harvest is a proud moment because it has managed to help and assist local community in cultivating the seaweed. PT IMM started by giving the community knowledge and trainings and also assistance about how to cultivate and even how to process the Seaweed into something useful and eatable. After the first step, the community will be facilitated with helps by giving business funds and materials that are needed. Not only that, the group will also be trained to develop their skills and to be able to estimate and calculate selling points, profit and loss that they will get from the business in simpler form. In the cultivating process, the seaweed tied in ropes and arranged parallel. The seaweed will soon grow throughout the rope. In the beginning of the plantation process, the group only has 35 ropes joint and now it has increase to 400 ropes joint in the area of 20 ha. “After 90 days, the seaweed is ready to be harvested. Sometimes the result of each seaweed harvest could reach

up to 8 ton”, said Martani, the successor of Fisherman Group Hidup Baru. Every harvest time, Martani and 20 of his workers can earn 7 to 8 million rupiahs. “There are lots of investors came to buy the seaweed, many of them even came all the way from outside Kalimantan.” he added. This group had also managed to develop the seaweed and transform them into a number of processed food, just like what the Assistant Vice President External Relations, Muhammad Nasution had said, “yes, just like what has been developed, the seaweed is a good potential and could also be developed as noodle, meatball, cookies, cakes and many more”. The obstacle that they are currently facing is providing a place to dry the seaweed after harvest. This problem is soon handled by PT IMM, together with East Kutai Government; they will try very hard in providing a bigger place for drying the seaweed so the production could be maximized.
