We need pictures of food recipe files, special garden project posters; send to [email protected] by August 10. Static Exhibits: Bring all exhibits to the Extension Office by Monday, August 17.

• The Extension Office will be open until 6:30 p.m. August 17 for your convenience. Drop off exhibits between August 10 and August 17.

• Virtual Option: Large items and items requiring a locked / secured display case are to be

submitted virtually. Send pictures to Kristen at [email protected] by August 10. • Labeling - Attach a label with your name and county to each article in an inconspicuous

place. Do this before bringing exhibit to the office. Example: Label EACH item in a First Aid. • Supporting Information – Because projects are not being judged, supporting information is

not required this year. • Packing - Pack in a protective, compact carton that can be discarded. Pack for travel but do

not tape the carton shut so that entry tags can be attached. Items must still be accessible. • Projects will not be judged at the State Fair but can be submitted for the Nebraska State Fair

Showcase. Extension staff will take your exhibits to Grand Island or you may submit projects virtually. Items will be displayed in the Pinnacle Bank Expo and Raising Nebraska buildings this year, which prevents projects from being locked in secured cases. Please take this into consideration as you decide whether to submit projects or display virtually.

• No ribbons or premiums will be awarded but participants will receive recognition for

displaying their exhibits at the Nebraska State Fair. Special monetary donations will be awarded to select recipients from each department.

CHANGE: Exhibits will be available for pick up at the Extension Office in Norfolk on Thursday, September 10. If you have any questions, please contact Lee, Kristen, or Sarah at 402-370-4040.

2020 State Fair 4-H Project Showcase

We know this year has been unique, but we also know 4-H members have been working hard on their projects all year long. We are so proud of the work 4-H youth have done across the state despite challenging circumstances. We want to honor the work our youth have done by providing a platform to highlight their exceptional projects and the valuable learning opportunities they have experienced. This showcase allows all enrolled youth, ages 8-18, to showcase a project they have learned a lot from this year or that they are particularly proud of. All projects are eligible regardless of the award they received through judging or the ability to have that project judged at the county level. So, pick out your favorite 4-H project and let us know why it's your favorite and what you learned in 4-H this year for a chance to be showcased at the 2020 Nebraska State Fair.

Projects submitted prior to August 10 will be showcased at the 2020 Nebraska State Fair. See more details and the submission form at https://4h.unl.edu/project-showcase

Projects may still be submitted after August 10 for a chance to be showcased by Nebraska 4-H on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

4-H Special Edition Articles

This year’s theme is Envision a 20/20 Future with 4-H. Many of you received an invitation to write an article. If you have a story and did not receive an invitation, please share! The article should be short, no longer than one page double-spaced. The purpose of your article is to encourage others to join 4-H and to tell them about your special project. If This will be the 45th 4-H Special Edition published by the Norfolk Daily News during National 4-H Week.

Please try to include the word “Envision 20/20” somewhere in your article. The majority of 4-Hers could not have “Envisioned their future” with COVID-19, prior to March 2020 but how did your 4-H skills, talents and abilities help you overcome the Pandemic challenges so that you could Envision your 20/20 future?

Deadline is Wednesday, August 14. Email your story to: [email protected]

Please submit at least one photo to go along with your story (a head-and-shoulders school photos will work if you do not have an action photo of you and your project). We are looking forward to reading your 2020 4-H stories.

** Photos must be sharp. Photos taken with some cellphones are too soft to use. Email photo in jpeg format.
