4-H Enrollment Fees

The 4-H Enrollment Fees for this year are $23 for 4-H members and $24 for 4-H members in the Horse Project. Horse Project members pay an additional $1 for accident insurance. To be a member in good standing, the 4-H Enrollment Fee must be paid. Members who fail to pay their enrollment fee will not be permitted to show at the county fair in 2019. If you still have outstanding enrollment fees from last year, you will not be permitted to participate in 4-H this year until fees are paid. If you are unable to pay the enrollment fee due to a financial hardship, please contact your club Main Leader. 4-H Clubs are expected to cover enrollment fees for members with a financial hardship.

Enrollment fees are collected by the Manitowoc County 4-H Leaders Association to fund events, activities, and education. The current annual budget for the Manitowoc County 4-H Leaders Association is a little over $25,000. The Manitowoc County 4-H Leaders Association relies on enrollment fees, an annual club Family Fee (which replaced a county-wide fundraiser) and Plat Book sales to meet their annual budget. The budget will be discussed at the next Manitowoc County 4-H Leaders Association meeting, which is scheduled for Monday, November 26 at 7:00 pm at the Manitowoc County Office Complex. The meeting is open to 4-H members and their families. If you would like to learn more about the annual budget and/or have ideas for raising additional funds, please plan to attend the meeting.

Changes to 4-H Friday Notes

4-H Friday Notes has a new name – 4-H Notes. The reason for the change is that we will no longer be e-mailing the newsletter on Fridays. We plan to send the newsletter out earlier in the week during the next 4-H year, highlighting what is coming up for the week. The submission deadline for articles will remain the same – articles submitted by Wednesday will be included in the following week’s 4-H Notes.

American Spirit Trip

One of the many fantastic educational travel experiences offered through 4-H is American Spirit and this year it has been expanded to three different opportunities! One of the three experiences (June 12-20) is being facilitated by counties in Eastern Wisconsin and has a different registration process than the other two experiences whose registration is through 4HOnline as all the other educational travel experiences are. Please read the details below carefully to understand the differences between the experiences and ensure you are following the appropriate registration process.

Experiences on June 7-16, 2019 or July 5-14, 2019 Estimated cost is $1,400 Travel with approximately 40 4-H members from throughout Wisconsin No capacity of how many youth per county can register Registration: Open in 4HOnline Wednesday, November 7, 2018-January 10, 2019 Registration for travel week preference will be done on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a wait list created for each week in case of cancellations. If you need help registering through 4HOnline, please consult this document. The state will contact youth directly to notify them which travel week they will be on or if they are on a waiting list.

Experience on June 12-20, 2019 Estimated cost is $1,300 Travel with approximately 40 4-H members from counties in Eastern Wisconsin Each of the counties in the area can send 0-4 youth.

Page 5: 4-H Notes - Extension Manitowoc County · With the start of the new 4-H year, we now have a Google calendar for all county, state, and national 4-H events and activities. Check it

Each county is guaranteed space for 2 youth attend this experience. Each county can also identify an additional 2 youth that will serve as alternates since not all counties have two youth interested. Registration: Please contact Wendi Holschbach at [email protected] or call 683-4169, if you are interested in attending this trip. Note: The Manitowoc County 4-H Leaders Association and the 4-H Teen Ambassadors provides partial funding (50%) for educational trips. Funds are limited, and are provided on a first come, first served basis. Applying for funding does not guarantee youth a spot on the educational travel experience. Also, any 4-H member can register for an educational travel experience, regardless if they’ve received partial funding or not. If youth don’t receive funding, or for any reason, youth can cancel from an experience. Specific cancellation dates will be provided for each experience.

Club Officer Training – Saturday, November 10th

There will be a training session for Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers, Club Reporters and Camp Representatives/Reporters on Saturday, November 10th at the Manitowoc County Office Complex at 4319 Expo Drive, Manitowoc. A change this year is that all club officers will meet at the same time – from 9:30 – 11:00 am and a pizza lunch will be served from 11:00 – 11:30 am. It’s important that all of the listed officers attend, even if you have previously held an office or have been re-elected to the same office. You’re a valuable resource and we would like you to share your officer experience with youth who are just starting to serve in club leadership roles. Club leaders, please contact Wendi Holschbach at [email protected] or call 683-4169 by Friday, November 2 with the number of officers from your club that will be attending the training.

Record Books and Scrapbooks Evaluation

Record Books and Scrapbooks will be evaluated on Saturday, November 3, at 9:00 am, at the Manitowoc County Office Complex. Helping to evaluate Record Books and Scrapbooks is a great way for older youth and adults to learn about Record Books and Scrapbooks and to discover what youth are doing in 4-H. If you can help, please contact Wendi Holschbach at [email protected] or call 683-4169 and let her know! We need about 8-10 people to help evaluate the books, so please call today!

Haunted Voyage Food Stand

Camp TaPaWingo is working with Garrett Zima again this year to bring a haunted event to camp as a fundraiser. The haunted event is called “Haunted Voyage,” and we are looking for clubs to help run the food stand at the event. We have created a Sign-up Genius for the dates and times the food stand will be running at the Haunted Voyage this year at Camp TaPaWingo. Working at the food stand will be a fundraiser for your club, and all profits from the food stand will be split among the clubs that participate. We will need about 3-4 adults/older youth to staff the food stand and a couple of extra adults/older youth to help with parking. Adults and older youth who help at the food stand receive 50% off the admission to the Haunted Voyage. The shifts are from 6:30 – 10:00 pm. The menu will be simple – hot dogs, popcorn, cookies, pretzels, soda and a few other items.
