Even whilst Jan Soldat was still studying at the University of Film and Television “Konrad Wolf” (HFF) in Potsdam-Babelsberg, his much-discussed short documentary Geliebt (Be Loved) screened in the 2010 Berlinale Shorts section. In 2012 he was back at the Berlinale with two more short films: CRAZY DENNIS TIGER screened in Generation 14plus and LAW and ORDER in Panorama. His graduation film The Incomplete (2013) recently won the CinemaXXI Award for Short Film in Rome and is nominated for the Short Film Prize by the German Film Critics Association.Noch während seines Studiums an der Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen „Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam-Babelsberg war Jan Soldat mit seiner vieldiskutierten Kurzdokumentation Geliebt im Wettbewerb der Berlinale Shorts 2010 zu Gast. 2012 kehrte er mit gleich zwei Kurzfilmen zur Berlinale zurück: CRAZY DENNIS TIGER lief im Wettbewerb Generation 14plus und ZUCHT und ORDNUNG im Panorama-Programm. Für seinen Diplomfilm Der Unfertige (2013) wurde er jüngst mit dem Cinemaxxi Award Best Short Film in Rom ausgezeichnet und für den Kurzfilmpreis der Deutschen Filmkritik nominiert.

Jan SoldatHe studied Theatre- and Filmstudies at the University of Cologne. Since 2007 he works as a lecturer in Romance and media studies (Cologne, Bochum, Wuppertal) as well as a filmcritic, translater and curator for diverse film series. Also since 2007 he runs the internetportal kinolatino.de in the role of editor-in-chief. He authored various articles with media- and culturalscientific focus such as „Narrar el horror“ (In: Schmöller, Verena/Birgit Aka (Hrsg.) and ¡Muestra! Cinema from Spain and Latinamerica in Germany (2014). In 2013 he was invited by the INCAA (Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales, Argentina) to participate at the International Filmfestival Mar del Plata as a jury member.hat Theater-, Film- und Fernsehwissenschaft an der Uniersität zu Köln studiert. Seit 2007 arbeitet er u.a. als Dozent in den Fächern Romanistik und Medienwissenschaft (Köln, Bochum, Wuppertal) sowie als Filmkritiker, Übersetzer und Kurator verschiedener Filmreihen. Seit 2007 leitet er als Chefredakteur das Internetportal kinolatino.de. Sven PöttingCatharina SchreckenbergShe was born in Germany and spent her childhood in Spain, Switzerland and Brazil. After her studies at Goldsmiths University of London she worked for two years at a São Paulo based film production company. In 2009 she took part in the producing programme Atelier Ludwigsburg Paris. Since 2010, Catharina has been living in Berlin and working for various film production companies, such as Arden Film, Detailfilm and Endorphine Production. In 2012 she won the Robert Bosch Co-Production Prize with the short Not the Time for Guitars, a Kosovar-German co-production. She also worked on films such as Praia do Futuro (Berlinale Competition 2014), Kuzu (CICAE Award at Berlinale 2014) and Yozgat Blues (over 15 awards), among others.Nach ihrem Studium an der Goldsmiths University of London, besuchte Catharina Schreckenberg das einjährige Masterprogramm Atelier Ludwigsburg Paris. Seit 2010 lebt Catharina in Berlin und arbeitet bei verschiedenen Filmproduktionsfirmen, wie Arden Film, Detailfilm und Endorphine Production. 2012 gewann sie den Koproduktionspreis der Robert Bosch Stiftung mit dem Kurzfilm Not the Time for Guitars, eine kosovarisch-deutsche Koproduktion. After a sabbatical year Lakino Short Film Festival is back: better, harder, faster and stronger. Almost 1000 films were submitted from 48 countries. The audience in Berlin now has the possibility to enjoy a selection of 112 films: 50 of them are in the competition and the other ones are spread in different sections:

The Official Competition, the heart of the festival, offers extraordinary possibilities for directors to show their works to the whole world. It is important for the Latin American Cinema that these productions are recognized worldwide and lead to discussions about Latin American topics. So this festival also offers a space for discussions, interactions and exchange. Additionally, the festival wants to be a platform for young directors. During the festival the best short films are chosen and rewarded by an international jury.

Brasil in Fokus, Brazil is on everyone’s lips. It is having its economic development, it is going through many social changes and it will host the World Cup 2014. This is unquestionably the Brasilian year. It isn’t a coincidence that about 28% of the submitted movies are from Brazil, a country which produces almost 2000 short movies a year!

Cross Border, “I am an alcoholic. I am addicted to drugs. I am gay. I am a genius”. This section deals with the LGBTQ - topics and wants to make a social contribution to draw the attention to more tolerance, acceptance, solidarity and equality.

Human Rights, the respect for human rights and the dignity of men is the basis for freedom, justice and peace in the world. The aim of HHRR is to support the basic principles of human solidarity, mutual understanding and the exchange between cultures. HHRR shows the opportunity of audiovisual art if you use it against the violation of human rights: to watch out for the victims and to show the audience an access to the different perspectives.

LakinoKids, the magic of film and theatre shall also fascinate our youngest festival guests. Children of every linguistic background are more than welcome. Our election: just images, no words, so that the magic of the moving images can be developed without interruption. With the following piñata party and small surprises all children enjoy an unforgettable cinematic event.

Chronicles of Power and Other Demons, violence is as old as the humankind. Violence contains in itself a bad tension, it tames the neighbor, always compels the other’s will and deprives them from their rights. 100 years ago the First World War took place. This year it is necessary for Lakino Short Film Awards to meditate on a problem close to Latin America: the structural concentration of power and violence and the multiplication of their new and old forms, separately or combined. This combination is not new at all and wide-spread. We focus on this complex and transcendental problem that does not only appear in dictatorships, drug commerce, organized crime and a guerilla war.

100 Years Cortázar, 100 years ago, one of the most pioneering authors of the last century was born: Julio Cortázar. A genius in writing short stories, whose narrations are an invitation to discover and read other possible worlds that base on their own rules. Lakino pays tribute to an author who inspired many directors. We show films that were directed in the whole world to translate his words into images and to playfully create other realities.

Football, only Football, cinema and football entertain loads of people and call together keen fans in a new encounter. What would happen if we decide to put both together? This programme shows a list of short movies about a sport that draws large crowds and, at the same time, makes us ponder on its influence in our society.

4. Ausgabe des Lakino Kurzfilmfestivals

Nach einem Jahr Auszeit sind wir zurück: Das Lakino Kurzfilmfestival ist jetzt besser, härter, schneller und stärker. Fast 1000 Filme aus 48 Ländern wurden eingereicht. Das Berliner Publikum wird eine Auswahl von 112 Filmen geniessen können. 50 davon laufen im Wettbewerb; die anderen in 18 unterschiedlichen Programmen der folgenden Sektionen.

Der Offizielle Wettbewerb, das Herz des Festivals, bietet ausgezeichnete Möglichkeiten für Filmemacher aus der ganzen Welt um ihre Arbeiten zu zeigen. Es ist wichtig für das Lateinamerikanische Kino, dass seine Produktionen weltweit Anerkennung finden und eine Diskussion über lateinamerikanische Themen anregen. In diesem Sinne ist das Festival auch ein Ort für Diskussionen, Interaktionen und Austausch. Außerdem möchte das Festival Plattform für junge Regisseure sein. Während des Festivals werden die besten Kurzfilme von einer internationalen Jury ausgewählt und prämiert.

Brasilien im Fokus, Brasilien ist in aller Munde. Die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung des Landes geht voran, es gibt große soziale Veränderungen und die Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft 2014 findet dort statt. Dieses Jahr ist ohne Zweifel das brasilianische Jahr. So ist es kein Zufall, dass ca. 28% der eingereichten Filme aus Brasilien stammen, aus einem Land, das fast 2000 Kurzfilme im Jahr produziert.

Cross Border, “Ich bin Alkoholiker. Ich bin drogenabhängig. Ich bin homosexuell. Ich bin genial”. Diese Sektion beschäftigt sich mit LGBTQ-Themen und möchte einen gesellschaftlichen Beitrag leisten, um die Aufmerksamkeit auf mehr Toleranz, Akzeptanz, Solidarität und Gleichheit zu lenken.

Human Rights, Die Achtung der Menschenrechte und die Würde jedes Einzelnen ist die Basis für Freiheit, Gerechtigkeit und Frieden auf der Welt. Das Ziel von HHRR ist es die grundlegenden Prinzipien von menschlicher Solidarität, gegenseitigem Verständnis und den Austausch zwischen den Kulturen zu unterstützen. HHRR zeigt die Möglichkeiten die audiovisuelle Kunst hat, wenn man sie als Waffe gegen die Verletzung der Menschenrechte einsetzt: Um den Opfern eine Stimme zu geben und dem Publikum verschiedene Perspektiven aufzuzeigen.

LakinoKids, Die Magie des Films und des Theaters soll unsere jüngsten Festivalgäste faszinieren. Kinder jeglichen sprachlichen Backgrounds sind eingeladen. Unsere Wahl: nur Bilder keine Worte, damit sich die Magie der bewegten Bilder im Kinosaal ungestört entfalten kann. Die anschließende Piñata Party und kleine Überaschungen machen den Kinobesuch für Kinder zu einem unvergesslichen cineastischen Erlebnis.

Chroniken der Macht und anderer Dämonen, Gewalt ist so alt wie die Menschheit selbst. Gewalt ist an sich ein schlechtes Zugpferd, es zähmt den Nachbarn, es zwingt dem anderen immer seinen Willen auf und beraubt ihn seiner Rechte. Vor 100 Jahren fand der Erste Weltkrieg statt. Für das Lakino Kurzfilmfestival ist es deswegen wichtig, auf ein Problem aufmerksam zu machen, das jeden angeht: die strukturelle Konzentration von Macht und Gewalt und wie diese sich in alten und neuen Formen oder der Kombination daraus vervielfacht hat. Diese Kombination ist nichts neues und leider weit verbreitet. Diesem komplexen und transzendenten Problem, das nicht immer in Form von Diktaturen, Drogenhandel, Organisiertem Verbrechen oder einem Guerillakrieg auftritt, widmet sich diese Sektion.

Hundert Jahre Cortázar, Vor 100 Jahren wurde einer der bahnbrechendsten Autoren des letzten Jahrhunderts geboren: Julio Cortázar. Ein Meister der Kurzgeschichte, dessen Erzählungen eine Einladung zum Entdecken und Lesen möglicher anderer Welten ist, die auf ihren ganz eigenen Gesetzen beruhen. Das Lakino Kurzfilmfestival zollt dem Autor, der so viele Regisseure inspiriert hat, Tribut. Es zeigt Filme, die auf der ganzen Welt gedreht wurden, um seine Worte in Bilder zu übersetzen und so spielerisch andere Realitäten zu schaffen.

Fußball, nur Fußball, Sowohl der Fußball als auch das Kino begeistert uns. Was passiert, wenn wir uns entscheiden, beides zu verbinden? Dieses Programm zeigt eine Reihe von Kurzfilmen, die einerseits einen Sport zeigen, der große Menschenmengen begeistert, andererseits aber auch darauf hinweisen, wie dieser Sport unsere Gesellschaft (positiv oder negativ) beeinflußt.

When it is about the relationship between literature and film probably is the film adaptation the one that connect these two medias in a more evident way. Within the literary adaptations, the hid-den issue of the story and its film version are identical. However, and regarding the two narratives, there are similitudes and differences.In the conference will be discussing the main problematics and challenges of the film adaptation. Specifically, films based on Julio Cortázar works will be studying. In his stories is developed a sys-tem that follows the chances to, bit by bit, break their own limitations and reach a dimension – that according to the tradition – seems unreal or fantastic. How to proceed with the work adaptation of an author that takes the reader to the edges of reality – and beyond? Film directors such as Michelangelo Antonioni or Jean-Luc Godard accepted this challenge. How they faced up the liter-ary adaptation? And which marks left Cortázar in the film history?

The conference will be conducted in German only. Free admission.

Geht es um die Zusammenhänge von Literatur und Film, stellt das Genre der Literaturverfilmung die beiden Medien vielleicht am deutlichsten miteinander in Bezug. Weil bei Literaturverfilmungen der zugrunde liegende Stoff der literarischen Geschichte und ihrer filmischen Ausführung iden-tisch ist, zeigen sich Gemeinsamkeiten aber auch Unterschiede zwischen den beiden Erzählformen. Im Vortrag werden grundsätzliche Fragen zur und Herausforderungen an die Literaturverfilmung angesprochen. Konkret untersucht werden Filme, die auf Werken von Julio Cortázar basieren. In Cortázars Erzählungen wird zunächst ein Kausalitäten gehorchendes System entwickelt, nach und nach werden jedoch dessen Grenzen überschritten und Dimensionen erreicht, die – gemäß tradi-tioneller Vorstellungen – irreal oder phantastisch erscheinen. The main emphasis will be the discussion about the topics exhibited within the documentaries in competition “Traces and Memories 1”. Lakino organisiert wieder seinen Stammtisch für alle, die Spanisch in entspannter Atmosphäre üben möchten und Gleichgesinnte treffen wollen. Der Stammtisch wird eine Debatte über die ver-schiedenen Themen des Dokumentarfilmwettbewerbs “Spuren und Erinnerungen 1” entfachen. Er wird von Melissa Velert durchgeführt, Lehrerin für Spanisch als Fremdsprache.
