Who are the 4th grade teachers?

• This presentation will provide you with an overview of what your child will learn by the end of 4th grade.

• If your child is meeting the expectations outlined in the following standards, he or she will be well prepared for the future.

Our goals for Daily 5

• Building our reading & writing stamina• Instilling a love of reading • Deepening comprehension• Building a strong vocabulary• Applying these skills to all content areas

• We are in need of used books to build our classroom library so students to have a variety of choices to choose from.

Accelerated Reader

• Time is allotted before instruction begins– 8:30-9:00– Ungraded component– Goal: practice reading

• We are trying to instill a love of reading and creating life-long learners. – Daily 5 Goal: Practice reading and LOVE it– Comprehension is a natural development

through the strategies we teach in Daily 5

MyMath!

• New, engaging program• DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION– Meets the needs of all students– Lends itself to different types of grouping

within the classroom

• Filled with many resources – At Home Component– Videos– Games– Vocabulary– ETC.

Social Studies

In fourth grade, students use their understanding of geography and relationships to study the history of Kentucky. Students will also learn the basics of state government.

Help your child learn at home

• Math Facts• Reading Log– Reading for 20 uninterrupted minutes – Discussing what they’ve read– Read to Self/Someone

Grading• Patience is key as a third-grader transitions

from a non-graded to a graded year. • Grading Scale: Boone County

• Our goal is to promote individual student growth.

• Formative assessment is anything we use/do/observe in the classroom to better help meet the needs of your child. Not just graded “papers.”
