Our Parish Family We welcome into our parish community all visitors, new members, old friends and those

returning Home to us.

ARE YOU REGISTERED ? Did you know that demographic studies estimate that more than 1/3 of all Catholics are not registered in a parish? Although you may attend Mass on a regular basis, unless we have a registration form our records will not show you as a registered member. Please encourage your friends and family to register. Registering is important because: If a parish doesn’t know who is out there, how can it adequately serve the needs of all– especially singles, divorced or young families who may not see the need to register. Registered parishioners receive helpful information about the parish. Registration is needed to obtain Baptism/ Confirmation sponsor form. Registering is easy.

Registration forms are available in the parish office and our website www.ladyrosary.org

THE MISSION Successful organizations live by strong mission statements. All Saints’ Day reminds the Church of her mission: to know the love of God on earth in order to experience the fullness of God’s hap-piness forever in heaven. The Church herself—and each one of us, her members—can use this celebration to give thanks and to re-new our commitment to evangelization. If the heart of Jesus de-sires to unite all souls in heaven, then we must spend time every day actively praying for and serving God’s people. In our words and actions, we can pour Christ’s love into the world. We can be the light of the world, reminding everyone that this life is a fore-taste of what is to come.

Today we celebrate a glorious family reunion, the solemn feast that gives us a glimpse of all our brothers and sisters in Christ who have gone home to God before us. When we quiet ourselves to hear the Word of God today, we recall the mystery of our salva-tion. We praise the Lord who saves our loved ones who have died and who promises to have mercy on us as well. The reading from Revelation amazes us with its sweeping images of countless souls basking in God’s glory. The Responsorial Psalm echoes our own longing to join those saints and look on the face of God. Saint John’s letter affirms our deep desire to be with God, providing robust advice about how we may realize our hope: by living pure-ly. The familiar words of Matthew’s Beatitudes show the way to purity—and to genuine happiness, now and forever.

WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED

Question:

How does a person become a canonized saint?

Answer:

It is important to remember that all the saints are people, real people who lived just as we do! The first saints of the Church were martyrs or theologians known for a holy life. Over time, the Church has established a set process to investigate the causes of saints. After a holy person's death, the bishop of their diocese initiates the canonization process with the Vatican. Typically, they must wait five years to ensure any false enthusiasm has lessened. With Vati-can approval, the process begins and the person receives the title "Servant of God." The first phase involves collecting information about the person's life and scrutinizing it carefully. One person has the specific role of raising doubts -- this is the origin of the phrase "devil's advocate!" When it is clear the person truly lived a heroi-cally holy life according to Church teaching, they are declared "Venerable." If the person is a martyr for the faith, they will also be declared "Blessed." If the person is not a martyr, they must be credited with a miracle. This is also closely examined for authenticity. Once the miracle is authenticated as truly a miracle performed by God through the person or through their intercession, they are beati-fied. An additional authenticated miracle is required before canon-ization, and we can call them "Saint."

Solemnity of All Saints November 1, 2020

Music Ministry The last several months have been unprecedented for all of us in so many ways. Our daily lives have been turned upside down due to the coronavirus, and our music ministry, too, has been affected. As soon as we entered the period of quarantine, all of our music ministries were sus-pended. Since the Third Sunday of Lent (March 15), we have been celebrating Mass without choirs, cantors, or instrumental-ists. I’ve been leading the music alone, as part of our live stream and now as we begin having public gatherings for Sun-day Mass, I will continue leading the music by myself for the time being. I am grateful for all those who participate in our music ministry, and I am disappointed that we have had to cut our time short this season due to COVID-19. I hope that all who have been faithful members of music ministry for so many years will rejoin when our programs are able to safely resume. So when we will have cantors and choirs back for Sunday Mass? The answer right now, the best I can say is I don’t know. Most of the guidelines that the Church is adhering to right now, strongly discourage choirs. Vigorous singing contrib-utes 6x the amount of aerosol particles in the air, which can very easily spread virus. I’m hopeful as we successfully return to public Mass on Sunday, I can use the cantors and instrumen-talists along with myself to lead music. When we do this, we will do so observing social distancing and other precautions. So we will wait and see, and pray for the best as we resume Sunday Mass. May God bless you and keep you safe.

Copyright © J. Sunday, November 1, 2020 Solemnity of All Saints

Remembering the Saints “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5: 9-10 This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints – time for us to remember the holy men and women who have gone before us. These are individuals who gave their lives, some literally as martyrs, for the faith. While the stories of their lives vary, the one thing that they have in com-mon is that they practiced heroic virtue. Many were persecuted and martyred, thus making the ultimate profes-sion of faith through their blood. They were early church leaders, the apostles, and those we remember in the litany of saints. But, some are even more recent. Those who suffered, who tried to bring peace to a situation, those who gave their lives for someone else, those who stood for truth against a government. They were, and continue to be, witness-es and examples for us to follow. There are also those who lived lives of extraordinary charity and love for others. They served the poor, stood up for the outcasts of society, went into harm’s way to save a stranger, and to protect human life. Some-times we may think that the Saints were perfect, but they were sinners just like you and me. However, they used God’s mercy and grace to excel in heroic virtue. In this weekend’s Gospel from Matthew’s 5th chapter, we hear what are known as The Beatitudes, or blessings. The Saints are those who lived The Beatitudes through their lives. Those who practice the virtues con-tained in them will indeed be blessed. We don’t often think or ourselves as saints. Yet, through our Baptism we are called to holiness and sainthood. But, like the Saints who we cele-brate today, we also need God’s mercy and grace. On this All Saints Day, we ask the intercession of the Saints who gone before us that we may have the courage to strive for holiness in all that we say and do. Bishop Gregory Parkes

O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord,

Not only of individuals, but of nations and governments.

We thank you for the privilege of being able to organize ourselves politically and of knowing that political loyalty

Does not have to mean disloyalty to you. We thank you for your law, which our Founding Fathers acknowledged

and recognized as higher than any human law.

We thank you for the opportunity that each election puts before us, to exercise our solemn duty not only to vote,

But to influence countless others to vote, and to vote correctly.

Lord, we pray that your people may be awakened. Let them realize that while politics is not their salvation, Their response to you requires that they be politically

active. Awaken your people to know that they are not called to be a sect flee-

ing the world but rather a community of faith renewing the world. Awaken them that the same hands

lifted up to you in prayer Are the hands that pull the lever in the voting booth;

That the same eyes that read your Word Are the eyes that read the names on the ballot,

And that they do not cease to be Christians When they enter the voting booth.

Awaken your people to a commitment to justice To the sanctity of marriage and the family, To the dignity of each individual human life,

And to the truth that human rights begin when human lives begin,

And not a moment later. Lord, we rejoice today

That we are citizens of your kingdom. May that make us all the more committed

To being faithful citizens on earth. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH

If you want to . . . ♦ be on a Spiritual Journey ♦ be Baptized ♦ Join the Church ♦ become Catholic ♦ receive Communion with your spouse and/or family ♦ received Confirmation & Holy Eucharist as a Baptized Catholic

If any of these apply, RCIA is just what you need! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is the process for initi-ating adults into the Sacramental Life of the Catholic Church. It is a process designed for adults who have never been bap-tized or who have been baptized in other Christian faiths who are seeking full communion with the Catholic Church.

The process includes four periods, three major rites:

1. Pre-Catechumenate (Inquiry Process) 2. Catechumenate 3. Full Initiation 4. Mystagogy (Action)

Other rituals also mark a person’s journey toward faith and full initiation into the Catholic Church.

RCIA is Not just for those who want to be Cathol ic .

This program is a powerful way to enter into a new level of learning the Richness and Teachings of the Catholic

Church.

If today you hear the voice of GOD, harden not your hearts! Please Call!

Courageously Growing Together in Christ! MAKING A SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

BY FATHER RON AUBIN

If for whatever reason, you are not able to attend Mass and receive Jesus in Holy Communion, then I encourage you to make a spiritual communion, or better yet, make your entire day a spiritual communion with Jesus. There are several web sites, listed below, that explain how to do just that. But my favorite prayer for maintaining a spiritu-al communion with Jesus is the Prayer of Saint Patrick, also known as the Breastplate of Saint Patrick: https://www.ourcatholicprayers.com/st-atricksbreastplate.html I’ve adapted this prayer to suit my own spiritual needs and my version goes something like this:

Christ be with me, within in me, before me, behind me, beneath me, above me.

Christ be on my right, and on my left. Christ be in my heart, in my mind, in my soul, and in every fiber of my

being. Christ be in my thoughts, in my words, and in my actions.

Christ be in my eyes (what I see), my ears (what I hear), on my lips (what I say),

in my hands (what I do) and in my feet (where I go). Christ be in my sleeping, in my waking, and in all my doing.

I love Jesus, be with me today, that I might be with you forever.

Protecting Our Families Against Pornography –

Winning the Battle is a free, one-hour, live webinar designed to help pastors, youth ministers, and parents find victory over pornogra-phy for teens and young adults. It is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10th, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Helping families protect themselves from the evils of pornography is one of our diocesan missions, which is why we conduct Safe Haven Sunday here each year. The Religious Alliance Against Pornography, with members from the Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, several Protestant Churches, and representatives from the Jew-ish and Muslim communities, is offering this Webinar as a means to provide solutions to overcoming the threat posed by pornography to families and marriages. Please share information on this webinar to parishioners, so that they can also participate. For details and to regis-ter, visit: www.dosp.org/freedom-from-porn.

Annual Pastoral Appeal 2020 Goal: $312,206

If you are paying attention here, you will no-tice our goal dropped. The Diocese gave a 15% credit to all parishes because of the

Pandemic. The Diocese was able to do this because they cut staff hours and salaries.

Pledged: $ 294,948 87.65% Paid: $ 273,637 87.65%

576 Participating families 2,731 Registered, active families

You can make APA donations through our web site: www.ladyrosary.org/give.

We understand this will be a most distressing time for all families. However we are still called to support the work of our parish and Diocese. So we continue to ask all those who are able to financially support either our Annual Pastoral Appeal or parish offertory, please do so.

Saint Michael’s Ministry

We are hoping to reopen our ministry this Fall. We need help for Young Disciples, Edge, and Life Teen. If you have been involved and would like to come back in September, or if you are new and would like to help in some capacity, please send an email to [email protected] or call the office (813) 949-4565. We need volunteers for our SAT (Safety helpers) SRT (Law enforcement and military background) and MRT (Medical and nursing background) to assist with keeping the children on campus safe while they learn about their faith.
