P&H 4100 Series Shovels Higher Tonnage, Lower Cost

P&H electric shovels are designed and

built to help mines move more material

at a lower cost per ton.

P&H 4100-series shovels are at the top of

the P&H payload capacity range, and they

are the most preferred loading tool in their

class in high-production, low-cost mine

operations worldwide.

Joy Global introduced the first P&H 4100 in

1991 for efficient loading of then-leading

240-ton capacity haul trucks.

A primary value focus for the P&H 4100

from its introduction has been on modular

component design aimed at more efficient

maintenance and upgradability.

Above all, P&H 4100-series shovels

feature the easily recognizable P&H

single-member boom and straddle-

mount, twin-leg dipper handle. This

configuration provides the best means

to hold the dipper horizontally when the

advancing edge of the dipper is subjected

to the massive, off-center end-loadings

that are a normal condition of dipper filling

in materials characterized as “hard” and

“very hard” digging.

Providing the power necessary for

delivering effective forward “crowd”

thrust combined with effective upward

hoist motion to quickly fill the P&H dipper

optimized for the material being loaded

is an array of ultra-tough P&H electric

motors matched to ultra-tough, Joy Global

designed and built transmissions.

It all comes together – rugged structures,

proven digging platform design, ultra-

tough all-P&H motors and transmissions –

Operator Command and Comfort

Shovel operators play a big role in mine

operation efficiency. P&H shovel cabs help

increase operator comfort and loading

command from the start to the end of the

work shift.

A leather chair uses an air-suspension

system to adjust for operator height

and weight. A two-position footrest

adds comfort and support. Therapeutic

vibratory massage and heating coils

provide relief from sustained sitting and

winter cold.

Padded arm rests position operator

hands for easy use of pistol grip joysticks

containing push buttons and rocker switches

to control digging, propel, fault-reset and

machine start-stop.

A graphical user interface provides

operator access to machine health

information and set-up controls.

Large tinted windows provide a broad

view of the loading environment.

A ventilation system keeps the cab

comfortable with clean, pressurized

air and clears fog and frost from

the windows.

Behind the operator chair is an extra seat

that can be used for operator training.

P&H 4100 Series Shovels High Performance, Easy to Maintain

Joy Global introduced the P&H 4100 series shovel in 1991 with the

arrival of then-new 218 metric ton / 240 standard ton capacity

haul trucks. Mines wanted a shovel that could three-pass load

those trucks. They also wanted a shovel that offered easier

access to systems and components for lower maintenance cost

and increased availability.

Joy Global responded with the P&H 4100. That machine quickly

became the preferred shovel in its class due to its rugged design

that included modular, easy to replace components. As with all

P&H shovel models, P&H 4100s evolved into higher-performance

P&H 4100A, 4100C, and 4100XPC models. A wide-track P&H

4100TS arrived in 1997 for mines having soft ground conditions,

in particular, oil sand operations. That model evolved into the

P&H 4100C BOSS.

Joy Global replaced its Electrotorque drives and controls with a

more powerful Centurion electrical control system supervisory

and data acquisition platform in 2004. All current P&H 4100

series shovels have Centurion electrical control systems.

Centurion electrical control system is an enabling technology

that supports performance boosting AC drive and also PreVail

remote health management systems. The Centurion electrical

control system will support far more shovel performance

enhancing technology going forward.

P&H shovels come standard with an array of control technologies, including:

•Extended speed range in hoist and crowd

P&H 4100XPCThe P&H 4100XPC is a heavy duty electric mining shovel that

provides nominal 99.8 metric ton (115 ton) payload capacity

(upgradable to 108.9 metric ton / 120 ton payload) for high

production loading of haul trucks up to 363 metric tons

(400 tons) capacity as well as in-pit crusher-conveyor systems.

The 4100XPC stands alone as the preferred ultra-class shovel

choice for high production mines around the world.

P&H 4100C BOSSThe 4100C BOSS is a heavy duty electric mining shovel that

provides a 100 ton (90.8 metric ton) nominal payload capacity

specifically designed to operate in mines for high production

loading of 218 metric ton to 363 metric ton (240 ton to 400 ton)

and larger haul trucks. With its 3505 mm (138 inch) wide crawler

shoes, the 4100C BOSS is specifically designed for oil sands and

other operations that require low ground bearing pressure and

high digging forces.

P&H 4100CThe 4100C is a heavy duty electric mining shovel that provides

a 81.7 metric ton (90 ton) nominal payload capacity specifically

designed to operate in mines for high production loading of 172

metric ton to 363 metric ton (190 ton to 400 ton) haul trucks

and larger. Introduced in 1990 to three pass load 240 ton trucks,

with over 185 units currently in operation, the P&H 4100 Series

shovels are the benchmark of reliability and high productivity.
