Professional Sales Internship

Writing Your Report. Your report should consist of at least three major sections: (l) description of your internship company, (2) description of your internship duties and responsibilities, (3) analysis of sales concepts. In terms of approximate emphasis and relative length, place about one-third on each. Because every internship in unique, you may find it necessary to place more emphasis on one than on the other sections. Do not let any of these sections fall below 20% emphasis or relative length.

1. Description of your Internship Company. Here are some possible areas of your description. Describe the relevant operations of your internship company. You may want to describe its product/service lines. Historical information on its growth or movement into or out of markets is also useful. The organizational structure can be related. With very large companies, you may need to restrict most of your descriptions to your division or a more specific area of the company in which you are working.

2. Description of your Internship Duties and Responsibilities. The purpose of this section of your report is to communicate the specific duties, activities, assignments, functions, tasks, responsibilities, requirements, and other experiences that were involved in your internship. Creative ways interns have written this section include: job descriptions, diary or chronological description of experiences, compilations of memos and/or other directions from superiors, and straight narrative.

3. Analysis of Sales Concepts/Preparation of Presentation. This section is the most important in that it is where you identify specific sales concepts that you are applying, ones you see being applied by the company either correctly or incorrectly, and/or ones you do not see being applied but that you believe should be applied. You should describe in significant depth how you applied concepts in the development of your sales presentation. In this section, you should draw not only from your experiences, but use marketing and sales textbooks, company records, client characteristics and other materials, and references such as trade journals, business periodicals, or other sources.

4. Summary of Sales Presentation. This section should summarize the specifics of the final sales presentation. It should at a minimum include the date of the presentation, the length of the presentation, the people present for the presentation (including their company and position) and the final results of the presentation. A copy of the presentation may be attached to the report as an appendix.

Report Format. Your report should be in professional format either printed copy or electronic file. Use standard report appearance meaning that you should have a title page, major headings, subheadings, minor subheadings (if appropriate), references noted in the text where necessary, and a

Page 13: 411~3 - Louisiana State University · 2014. 2. 10. · • Sandler Pain Funnel Questions • Sandler Rules for PAIN • Reviewing and Summarizing Pain • What I Learned & Action

----------------- ----------

list of references. Make use of exhibits and visuals but limit them to a maximum of 20% of your report pages. Use no smaller than 12 font size; any font type is acceptable.

Report Length. The required minimum length is 25 pages for this 3-hour internship (l00 hours of practical work experience). Text pages should be double-spaced. This length requirement includes exhibits, tables, but not the references or title pages.

Report Due Date. YOUR REPORT IS DUE TO YOUR LSU SUPERVISING INSTRUCTOR BY 3:00 p.m. on the last Friday class day of the semester enrolled (Refer to LSU Academic Calendar for specific date).

Note: This is a PASSIFAIL course.

NOTE: Ifyou decide to drop this class after you have submitted this form, please notify Karen S Watson at kswatso(tl)lsu.edu.

.i\pl L5U Faculty Senate Courses and Curricula Committee

January 16,2014 From: Lawrence Rouse, Chair, Courses and Curricula Committee

At their January 16,2014 meeting, the Faculty Senate Courses and Curriculum Committee took the following action regarding the MKT proposals:

MKT 4478 • The Committee returned the proposal to add MKT 4478. The Committee requested ajustification

that states how this course is handled in regard to the option oftraditional class format or internship format. Internships are usually considered individual study; in this case, it is a traditional course. If one chooses not to take the internship option, do they follow the guidelines of a traditional course? Is the 14 week schedule to be followed by both options or just the traditional course option? How is the internship and traditional course to be graded? What are the grading components? The Committee suggested that this course be separated into two courses to eliminate confusion. However, if the department would like to keep this course as a single course, it will have to provide sufficient answers to the above questions.

Professional Sales Concentration • The Committee tabled the proposal to add the Professional Sales concentration pending the

approval ofMKT 4478.

Please submit the requested documentation to Anna Castrillo in the Office of the University Registrar at 112 Thomas Boyd Hall or by email at [email protected].

If you have any questions regarding the request, please feel free to contact me at lrouse(ailsu.edu.

JUSTIFICATION: CSC 2730 Data Science and Analytics (3) The field of data science and analytics incorporates techniques and theories from diverse areas such as mathematics, biology, statistics, data warehousing, and artificial intelligence to name but a few. As a result of the "digital age", vast amounts of data are available for extracting actionable intelligence. Therefore, the area of data science and analytics encompasses all requirements including constraints for data management which culminates in the elicitation of knowledge to support human decision making.

When datasets are extremely large and require uncommon software tools to record, manage and process the data, the term "Big Data" is used. Big Data is a specified area of data science and analytics. Our Computer Science & Engineering Division has identified Big Data and related areas as a new area of expertise in which the division would like to grow. Our Industry Advisory Board (November 22, 2013) were very supportive of the proposed course topics and the technical tools utilized in them. Employment opportunities are plentiful and the expertise is lacking in most undergraduate programs.

To incorporate the concepts of Big Data and data analytics into our curricula, the division has developed a new concentration, "Data Science and Analytics", including required credits in the proposed courses CSC 2730 "Data Science and Analytics" and CSC 4740 "Big Data Technologies". Planned courses in the area are targeted for STEM-related research and career curriculum tracks.

OVERLAP: There is overlap in some of the topics contained in CSC 2730 and 4740 in existing LSU catalog courses particularly in the Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences (ISDS 4112 Data Warehousing; CSC 4402 Introduction to Database Management Systems). Content that is duplicated is related to database design and management and data warehousing.

• The proposed computer science courses emphasize database process modeling, database design and implementation as they relate to the data analytics model.

• Computer science majors are not required to take an introductory course in database development using a technology such as Microsoft Access (CSC 1100, ISDS 1102). CSC 2730 requires SOL as the introductory technology for implementing a database design which is needed for advanced topics.

• CSC 4402 Introduction to Database Management Systems is a high-level course which focuses on broader and more theoretical topics related to database design: E-R models, normalization, query optimization, functional dependencies and relational database design theory. CSC 2730 and 4740 do not cover advanced database topics.

• Content across the proposed concentration, "Data Science and Analytics", is contained in ISDS 4112 Data Warehousing but no one CSC course is equivalent to it. CSC 2730 includes both database and data warehousing at the 2000-level to create a foundation for advanced upper-level CSC courses. Programming skills are required in CSC 2730 and 4740. ISDS 4112 is excluded from the approved area elective list for the proposed concentration.

• CSC 2730 introduces technology topics at the 2000-level as a context in which to teach the fundamental topics in data science and analytics. Technology expertise is required at the lower level so that students are rigorously prepared for subsequent course(s) in data science and analytics at upper level(s). ISDS courses with similar topics (data warehousing and data mining) are offered at the 4000-level.

• CSC 2730 does not require statistics as a prerequisite as do the ISDS 3+++ level courses (indirectly) but will instead focus on statistical methods and tools for visualizing data.

• CSC courses related to data science and analytics highlight computational analysis and predictive analysis. But some computational skills covered in the one CSC 2730 course are covered in each of ISDS 1100/1102 (Excel/Access), 3110 (relational DB) and 4112 (data warehousing) also.

• CSC 4740 Big Data Technologies has a concentrated topic area in emerging technologies which stresses legal and ethical issues related to collecting and mining data.

Page 18: 411~3 - Louisiana State University · 2014. 2. 10. · • Sandler Pain Funnel Questions • Sandler Rules for PAIN • Reviewing and Summarizing Pain • What I Learned & Action

BUDGETARY CONCERNS: Current size and expertise of the CSC_E faculty, whose first priority is to schedule the required core CSC classes, is limiting the effective scheduling of courses related to Big Data, data science, analytics, and other related topics. The faculty and the Office of the Dean of Engineering are supportive of faculty hiring in the research area and to support new courses along with the proposed concentration. With the Dean's approval an adjunct instructor has been hired (Spring 2014) who is an expert practitioner in the field. CSC 2730 is the first course targeted to be scheduled.

By utilizing current faculty members and industry experts in a team teaching-paradigm, resources are available to teach CSC 2730 as early as Spring 2014 or Fall 2014. But to fully support the proposed courses and enhance the new concentration to its best potential, additional full-time faculty members are needed who are experts in the area and who can share the teaching load of the essential CSC classes.

Class Policy: - All submitted work for grading is the work of only the individual student except for the final project.

- Programming exercises are submitted to the classes.csc.lsu.edu server. - Due dates are as indicated on the homeworks/programs/ project. - Missed deadlines or tests are handled on an individual basis with the approval of the Dean's Office. - All problems with grading must be resolved within ~ class days of returning the work. - If class is missed, detailed notes and class content must be acquired from a classmate. - Class participation points consist of open book or open notes related to the lectures.

Student Class Participation: The class meets for a total of ~ hours per week which constitutes a ~ hour credit course. While notes and reference materials may be posted via Moodie, the class is not designed as online-based; students are expected to attend class. Absences should be rare and exceptional. Students are expected to have read the assigned chapters or pages prior to class for the background necessary to properly participate in the discussion and think critically about the concepts addressed. As a general policy, for each hour you are in class, you (the student) should plan to spend at least two hours preparing for the next class. Since this course is for three credit hours, you should expect to spend around six hours outside of class each week in activities such as reading, writing homework assignments, and/or completing programming-based exercises for the class.

January 16,2014 From: Lawrence Rouse, Chair, Courses and Curricula Committee

At their January 16,2014 meeting, the Faculty Senate Courses and Curriculum Committee took the following action regarding the CSC proposals:

Data Science and Analytics Concentration • The Committee conditionally approved the proposal to add the Data Science and Analytics

concentration pending a letter of support from ISDS. The Committee cou Id not find the approval from ISDS stating that ISDS 3105,4118, and 4141 could be offered in the program.

CSC 2730 and 4740 • The Committee conditionally approved the proposals to add CSC 2730 and 4740 pending revised

syllabi that detail the projects in the courses. In CSC 4740, the Committee suggested inserting the description of the final project within the justification into the syllabus. This should also be used as an example for CSC 2730.

ACCT 4237 Form_AlDS Supporting Information

Justification/ Explanation

1. Corporate failures continually highlight the need for improved corporate governance,

management risk processes, and control frameworks.

Corporate governance, enterprise risk managements, and controls are the most discussed topics

by boards, audit committees, senior management, attest auditors, and internal auditors. An

LSUCIA internal auditing capstone course is needed to provide our students with the academic

knowledge of these areas.

2. This course has been offered for three years as an independent study course with 3-4 students

per year. The course includes submission of a 3,000 to 5,000 word manuscript to the Institute of

Internal Auditors (IIA). The international Esther R. Sawyer Research Award provides $5,000 for

first place and $3,000 for the school.

The Esther R. Sawyer Research Award Winners for 2013,2012, and 2011 are as follows:

• 2013 Award Recipient: Douglas G. Seacrest, Louisiana State University

Ethics and Compliance Programs: Key Elements of an Effective Ethics and Compliance

Internal Audit Program

• 2012 Award Recipient: Jonathan E. Bayhi, Louisiana State University

Internal Auditing and Its Stakeholders: Understanding Perceptions, Achieving Potential

• 2011 Award Recipient: Rachel Bond, Louisiana State University

Internal Auditing "Rotational" Programs: Opportunities for Internal Audit to Add Value

The award also includes an expense paid trip to the internationalllA conference to receive the

award. The conference typically has over 2,500 international practitioners from over 100

countries.

The Sawyer Manuscript topic is established each year by the IIA Research Foundation. The

details of this award can be found at the following link: https://na.theiia.org/about

us/Pages/esther-r-sawye r-resea rch-award.a spx.

3. The addition of this course will allow the LSUCIA program to continue to be the international

leader in internal audit education and research. Over 3,500 students have completed the

program that has provided over 2,100 internships.

To: Mr. Lawrence Rouse, Chair Faculty Senate Courses and Curricula Committee

From: Dr. Richard D. White, Jr. Dean and Ourso Distinguished Professor E.J. Ourso College of Business

Re: ACCT 4237 Course Proposal

ACCT 4237 (Governance, Risk, and Controls) course has been offered on an experimental basis to a select group of high-achieving students for each of the last three years. The enrollment level was purposely kept to a minimum during the creation of the course.

The course is a research-based course. As a course requirement, students must research and write a manuscript on a specified topic. Students then submit the manuscript for international competition sponsored by the Institute of Internal Auditors. LSU students have won the competition and/or placed in the top three for the last three years.

This course meets educational goals at both the College and University levels. I fully support the course proposal.

Sincerely,

~~.~_.__...._.. _.....".~ .....

January 16,2014 From: Lawrence Rouse, Chair, Courses and Curricula Committee

At their January 16, 2014 meeting, the Faculty Senate Courses and Curriculum Committee took the following action regarding the ACCT proposal:

ACCT 4237 • The Committee conditionally approved the proposal to add ACCT 4237 pending a letter from the

dean stating that this course is needed even though it attracts a number of students below the minimum enrollment requirement of 10 students each semester. Are students handpicked to enroll in this course? Why do only three to four students take this course every semester?

Justification for Change: ARTH 2470

Title and Description change

1) Previous course title is inaccurate in the 21 51 century. "Art of the 20lh and 21 51 Centuries" is cumbersome and not appealing to students. "Survey of Modern to Contemporary Art" is the most accurate title for the course.

2) Description of the course never existed, it was simply entered as a repetition of the previous title. The proposed description is accurate, succinct, and complete.

Is this course included in any curricula, concentrations, or minors?

The course fulfills a distribution requirement for the Art History Concentration of the Liberal Arts BA in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. It is not a required course for that degree.

The course fulfills art history requirement for the Studio Art and Digital Art Undergraduate degrees in the School of Art.

The course is also one of the options for the Digital Media AVATAR Arts minor.

Justification for Change: ARTH 4466

Title and Description change

1) Survey has been removed from the title to avoid confusion with ARTII 2470 and to reflect the theoretical content of the course, which goes beyond a typical art history survey.

2) Description of the course needed to be updated. First, the original phrase "World War II through the 1980s" is no longer correct. Second, the statement concerning American, Europe, Latin America, and non-Western art is vague and confusing as it has stood. Contemporary art is a constantly changing field and this degree of geographic specificity is unnecessary in course title.

Is this course included in any curricula, concentrations, or minors?

The course fulfills distribution requirements for the Art History Undergraduate Concentration of the Liberal Arts BA in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and for the MA Art History Degree in the School of Art. It is not a required course in either case.

Justification:

The School of Art requests that the course prerequisite for ART 2761 Intermediate Sculpture be changed to include "permission of instructor".

We have been using this code in the registration process for a number of years although it was mistakenly omitted from the course description. We are now trying to correct this error.

Additionally, we would like to remove ART 1661 from the prerequisite. ART 1661 is a requirement for students pursuing the Sculpture concentration although it does not need to be a prerequisite for this course and may be taken later in the required course sequence.

ART 2761 is a required course for the BFA in Studio Art, the Sculpture concentration, the Ceramics concentration, and the Sculpture minor.

It is a prerequisite course for ART 4761.

Dear Anna

Thank you for your memo dated January 31 from the Faculty Senate Courses and Curricula Committee concerning the ART proposals.

Item 1) The table that you created is correct to our paperwork submitted except for one course in which we made an error. With the Committees permission, could we make a correction to the following course. • ART 2761: Intermediate Sculpture. Should be "Permission of Instructor" rather than "Majors/Minors only". Could you make this change on our behalf or if needed I have updated the form and it is attached (although not signed).

Item 2) Noted that ART 2661 Intermediate Ceramics is conditionally approved. We are at present seeking approval through the College of Art and Design and will contact you as soon as we have official documentation from the President of the LSU System.

Many thanks,

Denyce Celentano Associate Director

Justification:

The School of Art requests that the course prerequisite for ART 2881 Painting II be changed to "Majors/Minors only".

We have been using this code in the registration process for a number of years although it was mistakenly omitted from the course description. We are now trying to correct this error.

ART 2881 is required for the painting and drawing major and minor within the BFA in Studio Art.

ART 2881 is a prerequisite for Art 4880 and 4881.

FORM C - Request for Changing an Existing Course in Sculpture

Justification:

The School of Art requests that the course prerequisite for ART 4761 Advanced Sculpture be changed to "Majors/Minors only".

We have been using this code in the registration process for a number of years although it was mistakenly omitted from the course description. We are now trying to correct this error.

We also request that the graduate credit be changed to "yes". Graduate students in the Sculpture curriculum typically take up to 12 credit hours of 4000 level courses as part of their graduate curriculum. When initial paperwork was submitted this course was mistakenly noted as not available for graduate credit.

ART 4761 is a required course for the BFA in Studio Art, the Sculpture concentration, the Ceramics concentration, and the Sculpture minor.

It is a prerequisite course for ART 4762.

FORM C - Request for Changing an Existing Course in Painting & Drawing

Justification:

The School of Art requests that the course prerequisite for ART 4800 Senior Project Painting be changed to "Majors/Minors only".

We have been using this code in the registration process for a number of years although it was mistakenly omitted from the course description. We are now trying to correct this error.

The reduction of maximum credit hours is being requested as this course can no longer be repeated and to keep it in line with other area concentrations that require one semester of senior project.

ART 4800 is required for the painting and drawing major and minor concentrations within the BFA in Studio Art.

FORM C - Request for Changing an Existing Course in Printmaking

Justification:

The School of Art requests that the course prerequisite for ART 7300 Graduate Printmaking be changed to include "Permission of Instructor", and to add the statement "Students are responsible for studio fee associated with course".

We have been using the PI code in the registration process for a number of years although the necessary forms were not completed to change the description to the individual courses in the course catalog. The same is true of the course fees (approved for this course on 01/18/2005. The original approval is attached to this paperwork). We are now trying to correct this error.

ART 7300 is a required course for the MFA in Studio Art for Printmaking students.

FORM C - Request for Changing an Existing Course in Painting & Drawing

Justification:

The School of Art requests that the course prerequisite for ART 7800 Graduate Painting be changed to include "Permission of Instructor".

We have been using this code in the registration process for a number of years although it was mistakenly omitted from the course description. We are now trying to correct this error.

ART 7800 is a required course for the MFA in Studio Art for Painting & Drawing students.
