La Villa SausalitoThis spectacular home is a true work of architectural art; showcasing traditional

Spanish Colonial Revival elegance gracefully interpreted to suit today’s modern

lifestyles. Spacious and private, this impressive 5,094 square foot gated estate

offers an open and expansive floor plan, all crowned in top grade finishes and

distinctive style.

A tranquil flagstone courtyard and lushly landscaped grounds exhibit the best

of indoor/outdoor living, where a raised-hearth outdoor fireplace and built-in

patio heaters provide a perfect setting for relaxing and entertaining. Generous

level lawns and gardens surround this four bedroom, three and one half Main

Home. Private flagstone patios and mature gardens accent the detached Studio

Office and a separate Au-Pair Suite located above the three-car garage.

Vaulted ceilings, concrete floors with integrated-color and the calming hues

of designer paint colors and finishes accentuate this generous and welcoming

floor plan. Comfortably nestled in Corte Madera’s desirable Hidden Valley

neighborhood, this property is ideally located to nearby award-winning schools,

hiking trails, shopping malls and Highway 101.

Estate This modern day hacienda boasts origins that trace back to California’s nineteenth-century and

earlier ranchos and before that, to Mexico and Spain. Inspired variations of historic themes include

star windows, balconies, diminutively scaled towers, and conchas – the distinctive scallop-shaped

openings found in the state’s Mexican-era dwellings.

A central courtyard is framed by the house on three sides, and on the fourth, by a low, curving Koi

pond and lines of Mexican Fan palms. Along the edge of the adjacent corridor stand giant Birds of

Paradise. An outdoor fireplace offers ambiance and warmth.

Living RoomIn the grand Living Room, doors open in alignment with those of the adjacent corridor, and lead to the

sunny and spacious courtyard beyond. The dramatic fireplace is framed in metallic copper ceramic tiles.

Throughout the home’s interior, walls are painted a variety of light and saturated hues, floors are an

integrated concrete of terra-cotta and ceilings are made of Douglas fir beams and rough-sawn plywood

panels. French doors and tall windows lead from the Living Room to an extensive pergola-flanked patio

overlooking a wide and expansive level lawn and Eucalyptus grove.

Architectural DetailsThis custom Ace Architect home is laid out as a series of curves that are individual sections of an im-

mense circle. The curves define a line of palms, the shape of the Koi pond, and the arc of the home’s

interior gallery. Designed in a Spanish Colonial Revival style “with a twist”, this sprawling ranch home

boasts variations of historical architectural features including star windows, balconies, towers, and dis-

tinctive scallop-shaped details.

Inspired LivingHomeowners Georgetta Beck and Eric Miller collaborated with Ace Architects’ David Weingarten to

transform this sprawling southern Marin estate into an extraordinary place to call home. This private

oasis is a true work of architectural art, showcasing a traditional Spanish Colonial Revival style, gracefully

interpreted to suit a modern lifestyle.

Q: What was your vision at the start of this project?

A: When we first set our eyes on the property we fell in love with the park-like setting. We had toured a lot of properties over the years and 417 Sausalito stood out as one of most visually pleasing and useable lots we had seen in Marin. We set out to create a home that was architecturally stimulating and unique, with emphasis on incorporating the grounds into the home from practically every vantage point.

Q: What were the “must haves” you wanted to be sure were incorporated in your home’s design?

A: We knew we wanted a Spanish Colonial home that incorporated the kinds of updated amenities we knew would suit our lifestyle. We love indoor/outdoor living and envisioned an easy flow between the two.It was important for us to find a space where we could entertain separately from our children, so we set out to create both a Family Room and a separate formal Living Room sizeable to easily accommodate both intimate get-togethers and grand celebrations of many.

We turned to David Weingarten of Ace Architects for his whimsy and attention to unique and historic de-tails. It was important to us that every room would have its own unique style. David skillfully incorporated walls of windows and glass doors so we could take in the magnificent views from just about anywhere.

His creations include the centerpiece circular staircase he designed, his discerning use of a serene and muted color palate, and dashes of boldly colored Mexican tile. Of course the concrete floors with radiant heat throughout rank high amongst our personal favorites.

Q: How does this home suit your entertaining style?

A: Perfectly. We frequently dine al fresco, so the close proximity to the kitchen is essential. We generally cook while entertaining and the seating around the raised countertop island is a great place for visitors to hang out and be part of the action in the kitchen. Whenever we need heat, we simply light the outside fireplace and gas heaters.

The grounds incorporate great spaces for entertaining kids and families. Kids love running around on the oversized lawn, retreating to the rope swing hidden in the Eucalyptus grove and of course, feeding the Koi fish.

Q: What is your favorite room?

A: We each have our own favorite rooms. For me it’s the formal Living Room. I love the tall shed ceiling and the great natural light that streams in from the huge wall of windows. The mirror over the fireplace is particularly fun, creating an optical illusion of an oval passageway to the outside. In addition the acoustics are fantastic for musical events.

Eric names the Kitchen as his favorite spot. He’s an excellent cook and loves the Kitchen for all its bells and whistles.

Q: What have you enjoyed most about living in such an architectural work of art?

A: We never grow tired of looking at it. Looking out any window at any time is magical, and the unique architecture is a primary part of its visual appeal. There’s so much to look at , the colors are so soothing and the ambience throughout is incredible.
