FAMILY of the MONTH

MEET THE DOLCH FAMILY

This month we honor Kay and Andy Dolch. They have been members of St Theresa parish since 1965. That is 51 years, folks! They have seen a lot in our parish over the last five decades. They raised their family here. They have volunteered in countless ways that have ultimately helped our parish grow. It is important in any parish to have a “cornerstone” family on which to build. When I think of the Dolch family, a quote from Pope Francis comes to mind: “Families are the domestic church, where Jesus grows; he grows in the love of spouses, he grows in the lives of children”. Thank you, Kay and Andy, for being that example to us!

Breaking Open The Word

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 18, 2016

First Reading: Amos 8:4-7 The prophet Amos expressed disgust over people who take advantage of the poor. He describes businessmen scheming to cheat the poor. Then he declares that God will “never forget the things they have done.” Second Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-8 Paul urges the Christians to pray for all people, especially those in authority. Paul even asked them to pray for the kings who denounced Christ’s teachings because God wants all people to be saved through Jesus. Gospel: Luke 16:1-13 Jesus tells a story about a servant who tries to cheat his employer. The owner is impressed because he would do the same thing himself. Jesus then describes the importance of being trustworthy in small matters, as well as in greater ones. He then states that no one can serve two masters faithfully; so people cannot give themselves completely to both God and money. Consider/Reflect: Paul wrote an encouraging note to Timothy, and we have a chance to both read it and apply it for our spiritual well-being. We are taught all the elements of prayer: adoration, contrition, thanks and supplication, as we have noted before – ACTS. As I examine my prayer life, I want to include all these elements in what I include as prayer. Timothy also is reminded of God’s will and His will for us all – salvation and encounter with the Trust. These are not earned but are offered as gifts, for which I can ask and receive. The reason for it is the reminder that Jesus is the one mediator, the savior. As labor talks, contracts are often brokered by a mediator or arbitrator. Jesus represents us, has done all that is required, and only asks us to ‘sign on’. In Paul’s words it leads us to more quiet and tranquil lives. Where does my desire for more and for self-preservation get in the way of my ability to treat others with biblical justice and love?

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU On Monday, September 12th we buried our dear friend and brother, Deacon Bill Sulzmann. It was no surprise the amount of people who came to show

their respect for this man who was truly loved by so many. We will all miss him greatly.

Deacon Bill was laid out in St. Theresa’s Church on Sunday, September 11th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 – 9:00 PM for visitation. From 4:00 to 7:00 PM, we provided food and a place to rest for his family at the Faith Formation Center to make it as easy and comfortable for them as we possibly could.

Many people in our Parish went above and beyond to give Deacon Bill and his family a service and a funeral of grace and dignity and we would like to thank them: the Parish Staff, Jack Wurth, Jay Werling, Ryan Albertson, St. Theresa’s Ushers, St. Theresa’s Council 14615 Knights of Columbus, The Baking Ministry, and Sean Johnson and the facilities staff. Thanks again to all who helped make these days so special.

Get Your Flu Shot, Not the Flu

On Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM the Acme/Savon Pharmacy will give Flu shots and Pneumonia vaccines in our Faith Formation Center. Patients with Medicare: To receive the Flu and Pneumonia vaccines at no charge, you must have traditional Medicare Part B, Railroad Medicare, or select Medicare HMO Plans. If you have a Medicare HMO plan, it must be a plan that has contracted with the pharmacy to provide immunizations. Important Notice: Immunizations may or may not be covered by your insurance. We will verify eligibility under your plan and attempt to collect payment from your insurance for all immunizations. If we are unable to confirm eligibility, you may still opt to receive it at our pharmacy and pay for it yourself, or your insurance may cover the administration of the vaccine by your physician. There will be a representative in the Gathering Space at all Masses on the weekend of October 1st and 2nd to answer any questions and to give you the required forms to be completed and returned on October 6th when you come for your vaccines. Senior Bonus: If you are 60 or older when you get your Flu shot, you will receive a coupon for 10% off your next shopping order at ACME.

Ocean County Department of Health The Ocean County Department of Health will be giving Flu Shots at the following times and places: Monday, September 19, 2016 from 10:00

AM-12:00 Noon at the LEH Community Center on Calabreeze Way

Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at the Tuckerton Seaport on Route 9 in the Hunting Shanty

Please take advantage of one of these services

and avoid getting the Flu.
