WE PRAY FOR VOCATIONS
Lord of Harvest, we petition you as you have instructed us to ask for more laborers to serve in the vineyard of Your Church. You have told us that the
harvest is rich and laborers are few and we experience this great need in the face of the challenge of the New Evangelization. We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire young men to seriously consider vocations to the priesthood. Help all of us to be effective instruments to encourage and support those whom you are calling to serve and lead in the Church in the future. Lord, you told your Apostles to put out into the deep. We ask for the grace and courage to accept your call as we pray and work for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. We ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest, Amen.

Breaking Open The Word
November 17, 2019
Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading: Malachi 3:19-20a The prophet Malachi warned that the time would come when all the evil people would be punished. He then speaks of the arrival of “the sun of justice, with its healing rays,” believed by most to mean Jesus. Second Reading: 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12 Some of the Thessalonians claimed Christ’s return was imminent, so they stopped working and asked others for food. Paul describes his willingness to work, so that he would not impose on others. He encourages them to follow his example and earn their own living. Gospel: Luke 21:5-19 Jesus warns of the persecution all Christians will face because of Him, and how some will even be put to death. Yet He says they will not be harmed because “by patient endurance you will save your lives.” If Jesus’ followers are loyal, they will be resurrected and their suffering will end. Consider and Reflect The readings the last two Sundays of the liturgical year speak about the end-times. They can sound catastrophic. Today’s Gospel Acclamation verse offers some good advice: “Stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.” Raise you heads. Turn your eyes toward the sun of justice with its healing rays. Turn your hearts to the Son of Justice, Jesus Christ, who comes not to destroy us, but to rule the world with equity. Imitate Him, as Paul did, and you will be secure no matter what comes. If we are busy about God’s business known through prophets like Malachi, or God’s Son, Jesus Christ, or preachers like Paul, we may still experience opposition, but we will not be destroyed. We will work until the Lord returns, whether at the end of all time or at the end of our time on earth. We will be an example for those who experience injustice, oppression, fear, or doubt. Busy about God’s business, the Son of Justice will heal our hurts, calm our fears, and set the world on fire with the healing warmth of God’s everlasting love. Make your bodies busy by imitating Jesus Christ. What thoughts and feelings do readings about “end-times” evoke in you?

Avoid Fires – Never smoke in bed; turn off
appliances when not in use; don’t overload outlets & extension cords.

clothing near the stovetop when cooking; never leave cooking unattended; make sure handles on cookware are secure & always turned to the stove center when cooking.

Bricks of Remembrance
There are still many spaces for additional bricks at our Church. Buy a brick for yourself, your children, or grandchildren or in memory of a loved one and help support St. Theresa Church. Bricks also make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, Baptisms, and those “hard to buy for” relatives and friends. Each brick costs $250.00 and includes engraving of 3 rows, 13 characters each. For more information, call Evelyn at the Parish Office, Ext. 232.
HEARING LOOP SYSTEM
For those of us living with hearing loss, it is often difficult to understand the words spoken during Mass due to the challenging acoustical listening environment. In an effort to improve clarity and understanding, we have received a donation and installed an induction loop listening system. To benefit from this system, you will need to select a seat in the 2 sections of pews (when facing the Altar), to the left of the Baptismal Font and switch your hearing aid, cochlear implant or other listening device to the “T-Coil” or “telephone” position.
for St. Theresa’s Food Pantry
Thanks so much for your continued support
with our monthly food collection. Please look for the list of needed items in the bulletin on a regular basis. And as always, monetary contributions are accepted. Please make checks out to St. Theresa’s Food Pantry and place in the specially marked collection boxes in the Gathering Space and in the vestibule of the Daily Chapel or mail to 450 Radio Road, Little Egg Harbor, NJ. Of course, cash is always accepted. Thanks.
