As High Level prepares for residents to come home, a contingent of firefighters from Olds, Carstairs, Cremona, and Didsbury, along with two fire apparatus, and a support vehicle are also returning back to their communities. It will take roughly 12 hours to make the trip back. This collaborative approach taken by the fire departments of Mountain View County allowed them to draw from a larger equipment and labour pool with over 90 of the 160 volunteer fire fighters trained and experienced in accountability and wildland urban interface structural protection. Chief Kevin Miller from Cremona was deployed from the first request, overseeing and ensuring safety of all of the firefighters. The Mountain View group was tasked on some critical missions, and oversaw a strike group which has left a lasting impression of what the Mountain View group is capable of. Meanwhile, back at home in Mountain View County, assurance protocols such as automatic dispatch deployments, stand by crews and asset flexing options are pre planned in advance, to assist the communities that may have been impacted as a result of the deployment. Regional firefighters are thankful of the support they receive from their communities, municipalities, administration and council when these incidents occur and the fact that our regional contingent has the ability to answer the call when other communities are in jeopardy. We are extremely proud and thank all of the firefighters that volunteered to put their own lives on hold to go and lend another community support during their time of need. Firefighters Return Home from High Level June 2019 PROMOTE A HEALTHY LAWN Dandelions are, first and foremost, some of the world’s most effective opportunists – they thrive in poor soils and quickly move in where other vegetation has moved out – like a thinning lawn. Once established, it’s only a matter of time before seed heads are produced to flood the property with thousands of dandelion seeds. The best defense against dandelions is a thick lawn that is properly cared for and well-fed. A thick lawn will be better able to choke the weeds and not allow them to establish. By promoting a dense, healthy lawn and allowing it to grow a little taller (skip the buzz cut!), homeowners can create a habitat that’s uninviting to dandelions – one that will both outcompete and suppress dandelion outbreaks before they ever happen. After all, it’s hard to sprout a seed when there’s nowhere for it to land or it never sees the sun! MOW OFTEN! While it won’t necessarily kill the dandelions that are already present in the lawn, homeowners can dramatically reduce the number of new dandelions that appear simply by mowing often. - at least once a week to stay on top of things, and to keep them from establishing in the first place. Like many weeds, dandelions rely on wind dispersal to spread their seeds, sending up tall flower and seed stalks to better catch the breeze. By mowing regularly, homeowners can remove the majority of dandelion flowers before they have a chance to transform into the white puff-balls so many people love to hate. Pursuant to Section 311 (1) of the Municipal Government Act, the 2019 Combined Assessment and Taxation notices for the Town of Olds were mailed on or before May 21, 2019. Any property owner who does not receive his/her Combined Assessment & Taxation Notice within a reasonable amount of time should contact the Town Office for a copy.The Combined Assessment & Taxation notice

contains important information regarding assessment appeal procedures. Assessment complaints must be postmarked on or before July 29, 2019 and must be accompanied by the applicable fee as noted on the notice. This fee will be refunded if the appeal board is successful.The deadline for payment of 2019 taxes is June
