Did you know this July is the 50th

anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing?

To celebrate, the library will be hosting

Lucinda Lounge, sister to the late

astronaut John M. Lounge. Lucinda has a

special presentation in which she shares

photos, memorabilia and objects that

even went into space from her brothers

three shuttle missions.

We invite all ages to join in the fun on

Saturday, July 20 at 11:00 a.m.

Important information for ICL patrons!

The Ignacio Community Library Staff is pleased to announce ICL is joining AspenCat library system. AspenCat is

an integrated library system, hosted by the Colorado Library Consortium. What does this mean for you, our

patrons? First, it means additional materials are available to you. ICL currently has just under 25,000 items

available for checkout. With AspenCat, ICL patrons will have access to over one million items in the catalog. This

means greater access to print and audio books, movies and more. Second, the process for receiving books will be

faster since patrons will be able to request items or place holds directly. Our library cards will remain the same,

we will not need to replace cards or patron information. The online catalog will still be available through the

Library’s website. While it will look different, it will be user friendly and intuitive. No action is needed by patrons.

We appreciate the patience of our patrons as library staff gets up to speed on running and using the new system.

This change will happen on Monday, July 15th. ICL will be closed on the 14th and 15th to accomplish the move,

train staff, and prepare the system. Although we may have a slight learning curve initially, Library staff anticipates

a smooth transition to the new system and is looking forward to continuing to help our patrons access the

information and materials they need.

this summer for family movies!

To go with our Summer Reading

theme this year, A Universe of

Stories, we will be showing space

themed movies!

We gladly accept donations that are current

and in good condition. We are no longer able to

receive textbooks, encyclopedia sets, Reader’s

Digest Condensed, VHS, or cassette materials.

However, we appreciate DVDs as well as current

books and magazines.

If you go to our website;

ignaciolibrary.org and hit the

research tab, you will find many

databases. This month we’re

highlighting Colorado Legal

Services . It can help low-income

Coloradans seeking legal

assistance and Colorado legal

advocates.

“These days, loneliness is the new cancer - a shameful,

embarrassing thing, brought upon yourself in some obscure way.

A fearful, incurable thing, so horrifying that you dare not mention

it; other people don’t want to hear the word spoken aloud for fear

that they might too be afflicted.”

“A wacky charming novel: hilarious and moving.”

- People Magazine

We have a Motheread/Fatheread program

which is, an adult literacy program sponsored by

the Colorado Humanities Council that encourages

parents to read to their children. Parents who

participate in the program increase their own

reading level while sharing great children’s

literature with their children and

promoting early literacy.

ICL is currently conducting this at the Southern

Ute Detention Center. After each session a book

and a recording of the parent reading is

sent to their child.

On July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin

become the first humans to set foot on the

moon. When the astronauts landed on the moon they

had only 25 seconds of fuel left before the

mission would have been aborted.

The landing was watched on T.V by nearly

600 million people.

After they returned to Earth the astronauts

were quarantined for 21 days in case they

had a “moon disease”.
