InAugustof1973,AtlanticTechnicalCollegeofficiallyopenedits doors for business andoffered technical instruction in 11different program areas. Over 450 students attended theschoolduringitsfirstyearofoperation.Fastforwardto2018andyouwillseethetremendousgrowthandexpansionthathasoccurredatourschoolin45years.Notonlydoweofferover30technicalprograms,butwenowhaveacurrentenrollmentofnearly6,000students.

AmajoreventoccurredonJune24,2014,when theSchoolBoard of Broward County, Florida officially changed ourname toAtlantic Technical College, launching a new era incareer, technical and adult education. With the full supportofBroward’slocalbusinesses,industriesandthecommunity,we have seen a significant increase in student enrollment,programcompletersandjobplacements.

TheATCMaincampusislocatedonabeautifullylandscaped,thirty-acresiteinCoconutCreek.Thetwenty-fourbuildingsandthirty-oneportablesonthemaincampusprovideclassrooms,labs,offices,andsupport services forourCertificate/Applied

Technology Diploma programs, Pre-College programs (adultgeneral education), apprenticeship programs and a TechnicalHigh School. TheArthurAshe, Jr. Campus is located at 1701NW 23rd Avenue in Fort Lauderdale and the Atlantic Technical College - ESOL Campus @ Coconut Creek HS is located inportableclassroomsontheCoconutCreekHighSchoolCampus,onlyamilefromthemaincampus.

Step 4 l Register/Enroll for Class:Postsecondarystudentregistrationisheldthree(3)timesduringthe year. Not all programs admit new students during eachregistration period. Please check with the counselor/advisorfor space availability. Students are accepted on a first-come,first-servedbasisandclassesclosewhenfull.Classesmaybecancelledifthereisnotsufficientenrollment.

ELIGIBILITY

Atlantic Technical College and Technical High School (ATC)acceptsapplicationsonanon-discriminatorybasisfromanyonehaving the interest in an occupational training program. ATCadmits as postsecondary (adult) students, those individualswhohavecompleted theirsecondaryschooleducation,orwhoare16yearsofageorolderandhaveofficiallywithdrawnfromhigh school. Secondary (high school) Career Dual Enrollmentstudentsapply through their high school guidancedepartment.TechnicalMagnetHighSchoolstudentsapplythroughtheDistrictInnovativeProgramsoffice.

ENROLLMENT PROCESS

ORIENTATION AND TESTING

We ask all students interested in enrolling in a Career andTechnical Education program to attend a program orientation.At thissessionyouwill receive informationabout theprogramsyouareinterestedinanddetailedinformationontheenrollmentprocess.

Step 1 l Attend a program specific orientation: Get started on a promising new career at Atlantic TechnicalCollege by signing up for one of our program Orientationson the Main Campus in Coconut Creek. Go to http://www.atlantictechnicalcollege.edu/getting-started/, click on the day ofthe week that connects to the Career Area you are interested in and you will be taken to a short Orientation sign-up form.Complete the formbyansweringsix (6)simplequestions, thencheck your e-mail for additional information about Orientation.We look forward to seeing you at Orientation and getting youstartedonapathtoanewcareer!StudentsinterestedinLifelongLearning classesdonot need toattendorientationor take theTABE.

Step 2 l Take the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) in reading, math and language or meet exemption criteria:The State of Florida requires that all students enrolled in apostsecondary program consisting of 450 clock hours ormoremustmeetminimumbasicskilllevelsinreading,mathematicsandlanguageormeetstateexemptioncriteriainordertoreceivetheircertificateatthecompletionoftheirprogram.AtlanticTechnicalCollegeuses theTABEtoassessbasicskill levels. How long is Orientation?Orientationisapproximately1hour.Do I need to take the TABE? TheStateofFloridarequiresthatall studentsenrolled inapostsecondaryprogramconsistingof450clockhoursormoremustmeetminimumbasicskill levelsinreading,mathematicsandlanguageormeetstateexemptioncriteria to receive their certificate at the completion of theirprogram. See your program counselor/advisor for the mostcurrentinformationonexemptioncriteria.Should I bring anything to the Testing Center? Youwillbeprovidedwith testing supplies in the testing center. YoumusthaveavalidphotoI.D.How do I get my test results? Testresultsmaynotbegivenover the phone. Bring a valid photo ID and meet with yourcounselor/advisortodiscussyourtestresults.How long are my TABE scores valid?Oncescoreshavebeenmet,TABE scores are valid for up to two (2) years precedingenrollment inaCareerandTechnicalprogram. Studentshave12monthsfromtheiroriginaltestdatetoregisterandbeginAdultAcademicclassesor thestudentwillbe required to retake theTABEandpaythetestingfeeagain.What if I need accommodations due to a disability? Basic Skills Requirements and Program Prerequisites

Individualsinterestedinenrollinginacareerandtechnicalprogrammust take the TABE (Tests ofAdult Basic Education) academicassessment,unlessexemptioncriteriahavebeenmet.TheStateofFloridahasmandatedthatallstudentsenrolledinapostsecondaryprogram consisting of 450 clock hours or more must meet aminimumbasicskilllevelinreading,mathematicsandlanguagetoreceivetheircertificateatthecompletionoftheirprogram.Studentsnotmeetingthebasicskillsrequirementswillhavetheopportunitytoreceiveappropriateinstructioninordertoachievetherequiredlevelspriortocompletionoftheirprograms.Thereisafeefortheinitialassessment.Onceresultsarereceived,studentsmeetwithaprogramcounselor/advisortodiscusseducationaloptions.StateBoardpoliciesprovide for testingexemptions. Pleaseseeyourcounselor/advisorforthemostcurrentexemptionpolicies.Inaddition,perStateBoardRule6A-10.040,Section4,astudentmayapplyforawaiverfrommeetingtheminimumbasicskillsforthe technical program inwhich they are enrolled.This provisionallows for program completion by students with disabilities whomeettherequirementsoftheircareereducationprogram,eveniftheycannotmeetthebasicskillsrequirements.

InaccordancewithrequirementssetforthbytheJointCommissionand the Jessica LunsfordAct, students applying for entrance toany health science education program that requires a clinicalexperienceinahospital,nursinghome,orotherhealthcarefacilitymustsubmit toaLevel IIcriminalbackgroundcheckandadrugscreening test.Theapplicant is responsible forpaying thecostsofbothtests.Theresultsofthesetestsmaypreventtheapplicantfrom entering the program. Foreign Transcripts

Students with foreign transcripts are responsible for obtainingtheirowntranslationandevaluation,whichmaybecompletedbyselectedoutsideagenciesapprovedbytheSchoolBoardofBrowardCounty,Florida.Studentsshouldnote thata literal translationoftheir foreign transcript is not sufficient; their educational recordsmustbecertified"asbeing theequivalent toasecondaryand/orpostsecondaryeducationintheUnitedStates."

NoonlineordistanceeducationclasseswillcounttowardanM-1student'sfullcourseofstudyrequirementsifsuchclassesdonotrequirethestudent'sphysicalattendanceforclasses,examinations,orotherpurposesintegraltocompletetheclass.M-1studentareadmitted for a specificeducational objectiveandcannot changethatobjectivewhileintheUnitedStates.

Internationalstudentsareconsidered temporary residentsof theUnitedStatesandmaynotbedeemedFloridaresidentsfortuitionpurposes.Therefore, theyarerequiredtopayoutofstatetuitionforthedurationoftheirstudies.TheymustmaintainlawfulM-1visastatuswith theU.S.Citizenship& ImmigrationServices (USCIS)and be in compliancewith all theTechnical Colleges’ rules andregulations.

A Certificate of Completion or Applied Technology Diploma isawarded to a student who has successfully mastered all of therequirements of the program and hasmet the state basic skillstestingscores.

College Credit Transfer/Advanced Credit

Upon completion of a technical program and meeting eligibilityrequirements, including the attainment of an aligned industrycredential, studentsmay be awarded credits toward anAAS/ASDegreebyBrowardCollegeortheFloridaCollegeSystem.Studentsmust enroll in Broward College or a Florida State CommunityCollegewithintwo(2)yearsofcompletingtheprogramatAtlanticTechnicalCollege.Additionalcollegecreditmaybeawardedwiththeattainmentofadditionalindustrycredentials.

Cooperative Education – OJT

CooperativeEducationprovidesanon-the-jobtrainingcomponentas an additionalmethod of instruction. OJT enhances in-schooltheoryandpractical labactivitiesbyallowingthestudenttoworkwithexperiencedpersonnel in their chosenfieldwhileunder thesupervision of the instructor and/or a Cooperative EducationTeacher-Coordinator.

Toqualify,studentsmustbecurrentlyenrolledinaprogram,havecompletedoverfiftypercent(50%)ofthatprogram,haveattainedrequiredbasicskillslevels,andberecommendedbytheprograminstructor.

Denial of Re-Registration

Ifitisdeterminedbytheinstructorandcounselorthatastudenthasnotmadeadequateprogresswithinatermduetopoorattendanceoranyotherreasons,thestudentmaybedeniedtheprivilegetore-registerforthenextterm.Administrativeapprovalisrequiredtodenyorrescindre-registrationprivileges.

Experiential Credit

Transfer of Credit Policy

Studentswithprevious technical training fromother institutionsmay receive credit for that training.A transcript fromaFloridapublic institution documentingStudentPerformanceStandardsand/orOccupationalCompletionPointsachieved fora specifictechnical programwill be accepted in transfer at the receivinginstitution for the same technical program. A transcript fromanon-public institution that is fully accredited by a regional ornational accrediting agency recognized by the United StatesDepartmentofEducation,and thatparticipates in thecommoncoursenumberingsystemwillbeacceptedintransferforthesamecourse/program.Transcriptsfromnon-accreditedinstitutionswillbe evaluated on an individual basis by the department headandtheprograminstructortodetermineifadvancedplacementin a given program is applicable. Adult students who wish tochangefromonetechnicalprogramtoanotheratATCmaymeetwith their counselor/advisor to discuss the feasibility. Differenttechnical programs have different entrance requirements andmay have varying start times. Effective work habits are essential to student success. Eachonline/eLearning certificate/diploma program instructor willprovide a syllabus and pacing chart outlining assignments, duedates, and the comparable number of hours the student wouldhave attended in a traditional classroom setting. In addition to

maintainingsatisfactoryprogressaccordingtothecoursesyllabusandpacingchart,studentsareexpectedtomaintainattendance/activityintheprogram.Studentswhohaveoneweekofinactivityduringtheenrollmentperiodwillbecontactedbytheinstructororthecounselor/advisor.The instructorwillmaintaindocumentationof thiscontact.Uponcompletionof thesecondweekof inactivityduringtheenrollmentperiod,thestudentwillbewithdrawn.

VA Attendance Policy

Per theDepartment ofVeteranAffairsPolicy, veterans enrolledin NCD (non-college degree) programs will have their VAeducationbenefitsterminatedforunsatisfactoryattendancewhenaccumulatedabsences, tardies,and leavingclassearlyexceed20percentofscheduledclassclockhoursinamonthor,wherethecourse is less thanonemonth in length,20percentof totalapprovedcourseclockhoursforthelengthoftheprogram(daysorweeks).TheterminationwillbereportedtotheDepartmentofVeteransAffairswithin30daysoftheveteran’slastdateofpositiveattendancewhenabsences/tardyexceeds20%(usingForm22-1999btoreporttheterminationforunsatisfactoryattendance)andwillreflectthatlastdateofthestudent’sclassattendancebeforeviolatingthispolicy.

A veteranmay be recertified for VA educational benefits at thebeginning of the term or, where a school does not operate ona termbasis, 30 days following the termination of benefits dueto unsatisfactory attendance after showing that the cause ofunsatisfactoryattendancehasbeenremoved.Thisisdonebytheveteranmeetingattendancestandards,asdefined,foronemonthafterbeingterminatedforunsatisfactoryattendance.

Feeschargedforenrollmentinprograms/coursesareestablishedbytheFloridaLegislatureandareinaccordancewithascheduleadopted by the School Board of BrowardCounty, Florida. FeeslistedintheschoolscheduleareforFloridaresidents.Theprogramcounselor/advisorassistsstudentswithresidencyverification.

Tuition and Florida Residency Requirements

ApplicantstoCertificateorAppliedTechnologyDiplomaprogramsmust provide documentation showing 12 consecutivemonths ofFlorida residency and complete a Workforce Education FloridaResidencyDeclarationforTuitionPurposesformtobeeligibleforin-statetuitionrates.Tuitionforout-of-statestudentsiscalculatedat a higher rate. Staff will review this information and relateddocumentationtoverifyresidencyandeligibilityforin-statetuition.Registration,books, supplies, insurance,andactivity feesare inaddition to tuition.

Payment of Tuition and Federal Taxes

Cancelled/Closed Classes

All classes are subject to minimum and maximum enrollmentrequirements. A class may be cancelled if minimum enrollmentrequirementsarenotmetbythescheduledstartdate.Everyeffortwillbemadetocontactstudentswhoarealreadyregisteredandallfeeswillberefunded.Closedclassesarethosewhichhavemetthemaximumenrollmentrequirements.Theseareestablishedbasedonspaceavailability,equipmentandsafetyreasons.Studentswillnotbeaddedtoaclosedclasswithoutadministrativeapproval.

Method of Payment

Registration, tuition and testing fees may be paid with cash,debit card,MasterCard, Visa, local check or financial aid. ATCparticipates in the Florida Bright Futures and Florida Prepaidprograms.Iffeespaidbycheckarerefunded,theapplicantmustwaitatleastten(10)daysforprocessingtherefund.TheCollegeisnotpermittedtocashpersonalchecks.

Refund Policy (SBBC Policy #6607)

1. AllrefundsshallbeaccountedforandaudittrailsmaintainedinaccordancewithBusinessPracticeBulletinsissuedbytheOfficeoftheChiefFinancialOfficer.

2. Students who appear at the school in person and voluntarily withdrawwithinfive(5)schooldaysofthebeginningofatermshallbeentitledtoafullrefundoftuition,studentactivityfee,fee-supportedcostrecovery,andlab/supplyfees.RegistrationfeesandHealthScienceEducationfeesarenon-refundable.Five(5)schooldaysshallnotapplytocourseslessthanthree(3) weeks or ninety (90) hours in duration. In such cases,therequestforwithdrawalmustbemadepriortothecoursemeeting more than one-third (1/3) of its assigned hours.Retentionoffeescollectedinadvanceforastudentwhodoesnotenterclassshallnotexceed$100.Refundswillbemadewithin forty-five (45) days of the date onwhich the studentvoluntarily withdraws.

3. Students involuntarily withdrawn pursuant to the Adult Student ConductandDisciplineCodearenotentitled toa refundofanyfees.

4. Studentswhopayfeesbutareentitledtoawaiver,voucheroragencypayment(refertoSBBCPolicy#6606)shallbeentitledtoarefundoffeesonlyifrequiredevidencesarepresentedtotheschool/collegeprincipalorhis/herdesigneewithinfifteen(15)schooldaysofthebeginningofaterm.

Conduct and Discipline Code for Adult Students

Students enrolled in classes at ATC are expected to conductthemselves in a manner consistent with the maintenance of asafe and productive learning environment. Students in need ofdiscipline will be subject to reprimand by the teacher, referralforcounseling, referral toadministration,suspension fromclass,withdrawalfromtheCollegeorotherpolicyofthisinstitution.Fromtimeto time, legitimatedifferencesofopinionbetweenastudentandaninstructormayoccur.Usuallysuchdisputescanberesolvedbetweenthestudentandthe instructor. Evacuation Drills

Evacuationdrillsareheldatleastonceeachmonthforthepurposeoforientingstudents, faculty,andstaff to theproperproceduresto follow in the event of an emergency. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy andCampusCrimeStatisticsAct,otherwiseknownas theCleryAct,is a federal law that requires institutions of higher education toprovide current and prospective students and employees, thepublic,andtheDepartmentofEducationwithcrimestatisticsandinformationaboutcampuscrimepreventionprogramsandpolicies.TheStudentHandbookispublishedeachyeartocomplywiththerequirementsoftheCleryActandcontainspolicystatementsandcrimestatisticsfortheschool.Thepolicystatementsaddresstheschool’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safetyand security, for example, policies for responding to emergencysituationsandsexualoffenses.

Apprenticeship Programs

Apprenticeship is amethodof training students usingacombinationofon-the-jobskillsdevelopmentandclassroom/lab related instruction. There are both union and non-unionprograms. Apprenticeship trainingprogramsinFloridaoperateinaccordancewith federal laws,andwithstate lawsand rulespromulgated through theFloridaDepartmentofEducationandgovernedbytheFloridaStatutesChapter446.092.

Apprenticeshiptrainingoffersindividualsachanceto“earnwhiletheylearn.”Thestudentispaidforaforty-hour,on-the-jobtrainingworkweekthat issupervisedbyajourneyperson.Apprenticesare also required to attend related classroom instruction onselectedeveningsand/orweekends.

By apprenticeship training standards, the related classroominstructionmustbeaminimumof144hoursperyear.Theactualrequirementvariesfromprogramtoprogramasstipulatedbytheprogramsponsorandapprovedbytheregistrationagency.

Wage increases are granted as the apprentice gains time intrainingandacquiresexperience.Apprenticeshipprogramsvaryinlengthfromtwo(2)tofive(5)years.

Atlantic Technical College and Technical High School servesas the Apprenticeship LEA (Local Educational Agency) forBroward County Public Schools, and coordinates the largestapprenticeship training program in Florida. Applicants maychoosefromawidevarietyofoccupationalopportunities.

Upon completion of an Apprenticeship program and meetingeligibilityrequirements,studentsmaybeabletotransfercollegecreditstoBrowardCollegetowardanAAS/ASDegree.
