Sunday Reading Reflection
Jesus's parables are like the way he saves us. Jesus saves us by simply saving us. We lose our salvation not by his condemning us, but by our rejecting his salvation. Jesus does this in his parables all the time. Jesus will have the people
he wants to teach answer a question about characters in the parable. Little do the people know that they are really talking about themselves and condemning themselves. Jesus does this instead of with words - with things - in today's Gospel. He asks them for a coin. It is a parable for those who have money and are interested in it. He has no interest in earthly money. They're the ones who are obsessed with earthly power. He makes a strong point by having them give him the money. Those of us who think we can play games with God and trick him are like the opponents of Christ. It is not the case that our clever search for control will work. Rather, the only thing that will end up happening is we will end up condemning ourselves. Fortunately, God is full of mercy and in the end we must remember that he died for all his opponents. That includes us when we are having a bad day.

Message from Abby Zimmerman (see photo on page 4)
“My team of five others and I are now working in Letterkenny Co. Donegal as the Letterkenny Cathedral NET Team till May. We are running youth groups, as well as teaching confirmation classes, Religious Education classes and prayer groups for youth adults.” She still needs financial support in your mission. GOTO netministries.ie/donate and put her name in the last field to help her.
