Summer Term 5_Week 3_Year 3 and 4_ENGLISH

Stimulus: What happens in this magical shed and who is this gentleman?

Day Activity

1 DISCOVERY!

Imagine you discover this 'shed' at the bottom of your garden, What is inside? I can imagine it's magical inside, much bigger than it seems on the outside.

Perhaps it’s lit by candles, strange instruments on the tables, cobwebbed and dusty.

Write a paragraph describing the outside and inside of the shed. Use these sentence starters to help you.

Challenge: Make sure you use expanded noun phrases to describe e.g. green delicate leaves hanging gracefully. You could even add an adverb!

This is the man that lives there, currently we know nothing about him. Here are some clues.

Can you use these clues to make a prediction about who he is and what he

Behind you the door closes gently and you espy this man sat in emerald green robes, peering at you over his glasses, the candles flicker and die out. It's pitch black and he whispers....

Write what he says in 10 words ONLY. No more, no less! Make it mysterious. This is the opening scene to a story.

Perhaps something like "Come, follow me.. Don't make a sound, she is upstairs!"

Now write an opening paragraph to a story. Where does he take you? What does he show you? Is it something magical? Is he kind or unkind? How are you feeling?

Challenge: Can you place the possessive apostrophe accurately in words with regular plurals [for example, girls’, boys’] and in words with irregular plurals.
