SHORELINE SINGERS

Dear Shoreline Singers Applicant, I am pleased that you are interested in auditioning for Shoreline Singers 2018-2019. Enclosed is information you need to be prepared for your audition, and a brief bit of information about Shoreline Community College – for more information visit www.shoreline.edu/music. Shoreline Singers is a classical ensemble made up of students with past choir experience. Styles range from renaissance to contemporary music, jazz, spirituals, and pop. Students continue their education with top notch voice instructors here at Shoreline CC and explore advanced skills related to tone, resonance, blend, and balance while learning about the various styles. Shoreline Community College boasts an outstanding voice and instrumental faculty. We have 2 choirs, both audition and non-auditioned, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Funk-and-groove, guitar, and more! Shoreline is a great place to start for both future music majors and non-majors alike. We have recording studios including a state of the art digital Pro Tools recording arts program, multiple station MIDI labs, practice rooms, rehearsal spaces, and more. We offer complete 2-year music concentration degrees in performance, and recording arts. We look forward to meeting you and hearing your audition. SHORELINE SINGERS Audition Information

Auditions for the 2018-2019 school year will take place in May through June, 2017. Audition Time-Line Shoreline Singers auditions for all members will take place at the end of spring quarter before the next year. For the audition process, please see information below. Being accepted into Shoreline Singers is a year-long commitment. Audition Sign-Ups! Sign-ups for auditions are done through Email or phone, by appointment only. Please contact Evan Norberg, Director of Choirs for a date and time at: [email protected] 206.546.5899 Note: Returning 2017-2018 Shoreline Singers members need to re-audition for the 2018-2019 Shoreline Singers. Audition Information Preparation There are 2 things you must prepare.

• A downloadable PDF excerpt found at www.shoreline.edu/music or attached to packet. o Please learn whatever part you feel most comfortable with. Follow the

instructions provided on the excerpt carefully (language, tempo, musical markings, etc.). You are evaluated not only on accurate notes and rhythms, but also phrasing, musicality, correct and steady tempo and emotional impact.

• An art song, aria, or song of your choice that best demonstrates your current skills (60-90 seconds of it, sung unaccompanied).

The Audition The 20-25 minute audition consists of:

• Singing a 60-90 second excerpt of your choice • Singing your part on the excerpt provided • Sight reading (including assessing your rhythmic skill, pitch skill, and interval knowledge) • Vocalizing through your range • Singing back series of pitches after they are played for you on the piano (pitch retention)

Results Results of the audition will be posted on both Mr. Norberg’s office door (Rm. 808), and on the choral bulletin board in the hallway.
