Invent something that will help the main character solve the problem in the

story.

Find one challenging word from your text, or find a

word that may be challenging to a person

your age. Explain how to use context clues to define a word. Describe why the word is important to the

story.

Create at least four newspaper headlines using an oxymoron in each.

Did the selection of reading you chose today give you any new ideas about yourself or your

family? Explain in complete sentences.

Predict the outcome if you stopped reading your book

now.

Write a diary entry from the point of view of one of the story’s main characters that they would have written before, during, or after the book’s events. Remember that the character’s thoughts and feelings are very important in a diary.

Create four character trading cards. Remember to include the character’s name, an image, and at least five characteristics for each character.

Create a timeline of events from your book. Include important dates, character introductions, conflicts and resolution, include pictures to represent each event. This would be an ongoing activity that you could begin at the start of a book, and complete as you read.

If this novel had a soundtrack, what would it be? Create song lyrics for your story. Explain your song, and where it would fit in your story plot.

Create a comic strip retelling the story in your own words. Be sure to include all of the important characters, exciting events, conflicts, and resolution.

Create a new book jacket for the novel. Remember to include a summary about the author and an eye-catching cover picture.

Create an acrostic poem using the title of your book. Each word needs to describe your book. Make sure to include the author of your book on your paper.

Create a double- bubble map comparing and contrasting the introduction to the closing.

Make a bookmark. On one side, illustrate the main

character, setting, problem and

solution/resolution of your story. If it is non-fiction, then draw pictures to illustrate 5 facts you

learned from your text.

a character in the book.
