“Do not be afraid, Mary.” (LUKE 1:30)
It can be a little scary to do as God asks—to give Him the first fruits of our time, talent and treasure. The comforting words the angel spoke to Mary can comfort us, too, when we strive to be good Christian stewards - “Do not be afraid.”

If you wish to ensure deductibility of your contributions, please use a check, direct deposit from your bank, or parish envelopes. The parish, as always, will track such contributions, and will produce a written state-ment of contributions made during the calendar year. THIS WEEK: Episode 4 “Our Tainted Na-ture’s Solitary Boast - Mary, the Mother of God”
In this episode, Father Barron masterfully correlates the Catholic Faith’s testimony to the revelation of God in Christ with the vivid practices of reverence offered to his Mother. Mary is explained as “an on-going presence, an actor in the life of the Church.” Father Barron journeys to the humble remains of Mary’s house in Nazareth, to the ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus and to the great Marian shrines of Lourdes and Guadalupe to explain the Church’s teachings about Mary as the Mother of God, the Immaculate Conception and the dogma of the Assumption. We will continue our journey of “Catholicism” during the season of Lent.
Pray Before You Speak Have you ever been told to “think before you speak?” Nathan seems to have spoken too soon when he told David to do whatever he wanted about building a house for the Lord. But later that night the Lord gave him a message for David, that God did not need any-one to build a house for him; God
would make David’s house (in the sense of family or de-scendants) last forever. And that can be a lesson to us. Instead of just thinking before we speak, it could be a good idea to pray before we speak.
How many times have we said something in anger (or selfishness, fear, any strong feeling) that we wished we could take back? If you just think before you speak, you might just rationalize what you wanted to say in the first place. But if you take a little more time to bring your feelings to God, ask for his guidance and listen for what God would have you say, things might turn out a lot better. We pray before meals; why not pray before going to work? We can pray before making decisions about our family, getting engaged, taking a new job, buying a new house (car, HD-TV, etc.) When a friend or relative needs someone to talk to, we can pray that we listen well and say what God wants our friend to hear. If we have enough faith to let God guide our lives, let’s take the time in prayer to listen for that guidance.
We have 3 opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation this week. Monday 7pm at Concord Hill, there will be 3 priests; Tues-day, here from 6:30-7:15pm; and
Thursday 7pm here with 3 priests. Advent is a great time to receive the healing grace of forgiveness from the Lord. Also, an uncomfortable reminder: if you missed attend-ing Mass on either of the Holydays, November 1 or De-cember 8, you are in a state of mortal sin and should not be receiving the Eucharist until you receive the Sacra-ment of Reconciliation. Make your heart & soul ready to receive the Lord at Christmas. You’ll be glad you did!
Congratulations!
To our second graders who last week received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first
time. May God bless your journey to Easter and First Eucharist!
They are: Brady Hanneken, Denise Heggemann, Kathryn Isgrigg, Olivia Jacquin, Zoe Konys,
Kirsten Voss, and Payton Voss.
Congratulations to Audrey Lowe... the Bi-Monthly quilt winner for the month
of December.
