DAY 1: Bus to Chaltén via Calafate

Departing early from Puerto Natales, you’ll take a bus across the border into Argentina. (Please note that all times are approximate due to frequent border delays.) Gaze at the sweeping Patagonia steppe as you continue your journey to Calafate, a small, friendly town located on the southern banks of Lago Argentina. Upon arriving to Calafate, you’ll enjoy lunch as a group and spend the afternoon walking the shoreline of the massive glacial lake. After a few hours, you’ll meet at the bus terminal and voyage off to your final destination, Chaltén, the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park.Upon arriving to Chaltén, you’ll meet with your guides for an important information session.

DETAILED ITINERARY:

DAY 2: Laguna de Los Tres, MT. Fitz Roy

If there is a must-do hike in Chaltén, this is it! You’ll start the day off with a short transfer to Hosteria El Pilar, located 17km outside of Chaltén, the beginning of your trail. From here, you’ll follow the rocky riverbed of Rio Blanco to the entrance of Los Glaciares National Park. As you continue up the valley, you’ll pass through jewel-blue streams and dense beech forests until welcomed by extravagant views of the Piedras Blancas Glacier. After crossing through Campamento Poincenot, (the base camp for this world-renowned hike), you’ll arrive to the most challenging segment: a 400-meter steep, uphill climb through a massive boulder-filled moraine. At the top, you’ll be left face to face with the imposing Fitz Roy Mountain Range and turquoise-blue glacial lagoon below. You’ll descend on a different trail that takes you past Laguna Capri and straight to Chaltén, where you’ll rest for the evening.

DAY 3: Trek to Laguna Cerro Torre - Bus to Calafate

After breakfast, you’ll set out to Laguna Cerro Torre for another day of pristine Patagonian landscapes. Dramatic mountain displays, gaping glacial valleys and sapphire blue waters will all be part of your adventure. You’ll hike through rolling hills, up small ascents and alongside of a dancing river before arriving to the final climb up a large moraine, which cups the Laguna Torre below. Following lunch and photographs, you’ll follow the same trail back to Chaltén, where you’ll grab your luggage and take a bus back to Calafate. Enjoydinner and a good rest at your hotel in Calafate!

DAY 4: Mini-trek on Perito Moreno Glacier

Get ready for an unforgettable day on top of Perito Moreno Glacier! Experience what it’s like to walk on ice as your guide takes you past cyan-blue cracks, glistening ice caves and small lagoons. After getting picked up at your hotel in Calafate, travel along the flat open Patagonian plains before arriving to Los Glaciers National Park. Continue down the scenic road until reaching the Bajo Las Sombras boat dock, where you’ll cross Lago Rico on a 20-minute catamaran ride. Sitting right beneath the southern wall of Perito Moreno Glacier, your guides will give you the ice-hiking equipment, a quick information session and you’ll begin a 90-minute trek through the never-ending sea of crystal-blue ice!

Afterwards, spend the afternoon exploring the well-designed, wooden walkways that’ll give you more impressive views of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Transportation is provided back to Calafate.
