MATH LEGO BUILD

Supplies: Legos, Number cards Instructions: Place cards on the table and have the children build up with legos. You can also start with 10 and go up! Or challenge and place some 20’s or 30’s on the number line.

CONSTRUCTING SHAPES

Supplies: Toothpicks, Marshmallows Instructions: This engaging STEM activity lets kids create their own structures with just two household items. Working with toothpicks and marshmallows, kids will learn to manipulate elements to assemble larger structures – a key skill in construction play. For sample structures and “blueprints” that students can use, take a look at the printable below.

CONSTRUCTION DOH

Supplies: Number Cards, PlayDoh, Golf Tees Instructions: Create a playdoh base and have the children hammer the golf tees into the playdoh based on the number card. (You can create your own number cards with construction paper. If you do not have golf tees, use only playdoh and have the children make shapes based on the number that is on the card.)

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL TURTLE TIME

The goal: To help kids practice observing what’s going on around them. Picking up on social cues helps kids get their needs met and understand the perspective of others. How to play: When you and your child get to the playground and other places, look around like a turtle in a slow, exaggerated fashion. Take turns sharing details about what you see: “All the swings are taken.” “There’s a short line for the slide.”

WHO AM I RIGHT NOW?

The goal: To build self-awareness and help identify your child’s strengths. These skills can also help with decision making and understanding the perspective of others. How to play: Get some index cards. Write down positive activities like being a good helper or being a good teacher, sharing, giving a hug, etc,. Brainstorm about other cards your child could make and have the children act it out.

PUT-UPS

Go around the circle and ask each child if there is anyone they want to give a “put-up” to. (Put UP instead of down). Has anyone done something especially nice for you? Shared?, Etc. The teacher and helpers contribute too so you can make sure everyone hears his/her name mentioned. You can also write the comments down and send them home for the parents to read. It does encourage the children to remember the “good” interactions they have with others.

SCIENCE HOUSE CONSTRUCTION

Layout different materials for the students on trays: straws, cardboard, legos, figurines/action figures. Have the children construct houses, making them rain proof. Then squirt their construction with water to see if it works!

APPLE TOWER

Supplies: Apple Pieces and Toothpicks Use toothpicks and apple chunks to create a tower, boat or other structure. Be creative!

CATAPULT SCIENCE Supplies needed: 7 craft sticks, 3 rubber bands, a milk cap, cotton balls {or other objects to launch} Instructions: Stack 5 craft sticks together, and rubber band the ends. Stack 2 craft sticks together, and wrap a rubber band around the very end. Separate the 2 craft sticks. Place the stack of 5 craft sticks between the 2 craft sticks. Wrap a rubber band around all of the craft sticks to hold the catapult together. Glue a milk cap {or something similar} on to serve as a launching platform. Push down on the top craft stick and release to launch an object from the milk cap. Catapult Science Now create a simple experiment using the catapult of your choice. Try one of these experiments.(A) Launch an object from the catapult multiple times and measure how far it travels each time. (B) Launch different objects from the catapult and measure how far each object travels. Compare catapults. Build more than one catapult {the same or different design}. Launch the same object from each catapult and measure how far it travels. Can you think of any other catapult experiments? Do you have a favorite catapult design?

BIBLE GOD ASKS ME TO OBEY BIBLE STORY (GENESIS 6-8; STORY FROM “THE BEGINNER’S BIBLE” PAGES 26-33) 1. Good morning friends! Today, we have a very special story you might have heard of before.

This story comes from the very first book of the Bible, which is what book? Genesis! Genesis is in the Old Testament.

2. This is the story of a man named Noah. Back in Noah’s time, people did bad things and forgot about God. Except Noah, Noah loved God.

3. God was sad that everyone but Noah forgot about him. He told Noah about his plan to start over. God told Noah to make an ark. Who can tell me what an ark is? A big, big boat.

4. God told Noah exactly how to build the ark and Noah and his family began working. 5. When it was all done, God said, “take your family and two of every animal into the ark”.

Animals creeped, crawled, hopped and galloped onto Noah’s new boat. 6. After everyone was inside, the rain began to fall. And fall, and fall. The ark rocked this way

and rocked that way on the rising water. 7. Finally, the rain stopped. Water covered everything! Everyone inside the ark was safe. Noah

and his family were very happy. 8. One day, Noah sent a dove to find land. It flew and flew but never found any. So it came

back. One week later, Noah sent the dove out again. This time it brought him an olive leaf. Noah cheered, “it must have found land!”

9. The ark finally came to rest on the top of a mountain. God told Noah to leave the ark. Noah and his family praised God. God put a beautiful rainbow in the sky. It was a sign of his promise to never flood the whole earth again.

10. Noah listened to God and obeyed him. We need to do the same and listen & obey God. He will tell us the right thing to do. Just like we obey our parents and our teachers, we need to obey God. That’s what we learned today, Noah obeyed God.

11. Close in prayer

BIBLE VERSE MEMORIZATION Discuss the Bible Reading When you are finished reading the story the second time, ask the children the following questions so that you can know they understood it. “Who was in the story?” God, Noah, Noah’s family, the animals “What did God tell Noah to do?” Build an ark “Did Noah listen and obey God?” Yes “Why did God want Noah to build the ark?” Because God was

going to flood the earth and He wanted to save Noah and his family

Activity: Bible Verse Memorization “Bring two of every living thing into the ark.” Genesis 6:19 (NIRV) Have the children do the following hand motions along with repeating the words after you, to help them learn the Bible Verse: Bring: hold both arms out and them bring them into the body two: hold two fingers up of every living thing: breath in deep info: hold one hand in a circle and put the other hand into it the ark: hold hands together, in the shape of a boat, and move

forward through the water Genesis 6: hold six fingers up - 19: hold ten fingers up and then

hold nine fingers up Do this a few times with the children. Make it fun for them to do the motions and say the words. Involving them in active learning is essential for memorization at this age.

Bring two of every

living thig into the

ark.

ANIMALS ROUNDUP Bible Verse Activity: Animals Roundup 1. Before class, make the box to look like the ark using the

black marker to make it look as though it was made of wood. 2. Before class, hide the animal pictures around the room.

“What was our Bible Verse saying? (allow for responses) Right. It was saying how two of every animal were to be brought into the ark. Noah was supposed to bring all of the animals into the ark. That’s a lot of animals! Wow! Do you think that you could do that by yourself? (allow for responses) I think I would need help. Do you think that Noah needs help getting all of the animals into the ark? Do you think we should help Noah? Ok, pictures of animals have been hidden around the room. Let’s have 4 children get up and try to find animals. Then when they find animals, we’ll see if they match. If not, they’ll just hold onto them until the next group of children. Ok, everyone! Let’s help Noah!” (play the game with the children) “How many of each animal did we match? (allow for responses) Two, right. That’s how many of each animal Noah was supposed to bring into the ark. You helped Noah find all of the animals! Great job everyone!”
