5 March 2018 ‘PANEL of 3’ DPI COMPETITION Friday 1 June 2018 Our programme for this year shows a new competition called ‘PANEL of 5’. Following feedback from members of the Discussion Group which met recently at the Drop-in Workshop, a suggestion was made to change this to a PANEL of 3’. It was felt that as this was a new competition and if we are to encourage as many members as possible to submit, it needs to be a panel of three images. More members are likely to enter if it’s a smaller number of images. Please see below an explanation of competition requirements and how it should work. The requirement for a Projected ‘Panel of 3’ is that the images must be based on a theme and hold together as an overall panel, presented in a similar format both in size and tonality. Usual sizing rules apply. So the guidelines are:- The panel should have a central theme Images should be of a good technical standard The tonal quality is similar in each image It may be Mono or Colour The panel should convey emotion/story i.e. the ability to communicate feelings and intentions of the photographer Originality/individuality in interpreting your chosen topic It should be sized correctly and well presented The three images will be presented individually firstly, then followed by a separate PDI showing all three images as a panel. Please note the ‘PANEL OF 3’ should NOT be a Triptych.

‘PANEL of 3’ DPI COMPETITION Friday 1 June 2018

Our programme for this year shows a new competition called ‘PANEL of 5’. Following feedback from members of the Discussion Group which met recently at the Drop-in Workshop, a suggestion was made to change this to a ‘PANEL of 3’. It was felt that as this was a new competition and if we are to encourage as many members as possible to submit, it needs to be a panel of three images. More members are likely to enter if it’s a smaller number of images. Please see below an explanation of competition requirements and how it should work.

The requirement for a Projected ‘Panel of 3’ is that the images must be based on a theme and hold together as an overall panel, presented in a

similar format both in size and tonality. Usual sizing rules apply.

So the guidelines are:-

§   The panel should have a central theme §   Images should be of a good technical standard §   The tonal quality is similar in each image §   It may be Mono or Colour §   The panel should convey emotion/story i.e. the ability to

communicate feelings and intentions of the photographer §   Originality/individuality in interpreting your chosen topic §   It should be sized correctly and well presented

The three images will be presented individually firstly, then followed by a separate PDI showing all three images as a panel.

Please note the ‘PANEL OF 3’ should NOT be a Triptych.

The competition will be held on Friday 1 June 2018 and judging will be carried out by all members present. Guidelines on judging/voting will be

issued later.

Rules on sizing PDI’s can be found on the home page of our website www.morristoncameraclub.co.uk. For this competition each of the three images should be jpg’s sized as a maximum width of 1400 pixels x maximum height of 1050 pixels. A fourth image should contain all three images as a panel as a jpg sized as 1400 pixels x 1050 pixels.

Prior to the competition there is a presentation by John Cooke on Friday 20th April which will give us an insight into putting a panel together and hopefully provide us with inspiration.

Following that on Friday 27th April, Brian Morris as part of his Photoshop Workshop’ will explain the requirements for the sizing and presentation of your ‘PANEL OF 3’.

Please hand-in your PDI entry on Friday 11 May 2018.

So plenty of time to think about what theme and images you are planning to submit.

Any queries or additional information you may require please contact me, I am happy to help.

Alternatively, please feel free to raise this at any future Open Forum.

Thank you.
