5 Myths of Codingin the Classroom

Why? Because today we have self-directed learning tools like Scratch (K-5)...

...and Vizwik (Grades 6-12)

Teachers now need to become facilitators, not experts, because that’s already woven

into the fabric of these tools.

The human brain processes images 60,000x faster than text.

Visual coding with symbols makes learning it a lot easier.

Coding is integrated into every aspect of human life. Arts, sports, media, agriculture, architecture, and STEM, to name a few.

Coding is no more subject-specific than a pencil or even a word processor.

Research shows that coding improves cognitive function across all subjects, not

just coding.

Creating programmers is a myth. Coding creates creative learners.

The best coding tools, like Scratch and Vizwik, are free and run in a web browser.

No disk space, little processing power, no hardware upgrades

required.

Some coding tools, like Vizwik, make use of smartphones but

embed a simulator right into the browser.

These myths truly are myths.

The future is coding in the classroom.

The transformation started a few years ago.

Coding is the new literacy of the 21st century.

Don’t let your students be left behind because of fear based on myths. Empower

your students!
