A ladder

Who would think a step ladder could be transformed into something so magical? But

from the vantage point of some creative people in the world, the ladder is a

potentially cool Xmas tree. It will look particularly charming in a studio apartment,

enhancing the casual nature of the surroundings.

Books

Yes, why not! It’s an innovative idea and sort of part festive, part cute, part cerebral. The trick to getting this one right is to have big

heavy books like dictionaries and coffee table books at the bottom so there’s foundation

and some kind of aesthetic balance. Then, of course, you have mid-sized and large books as

you go along.

Beer bottles

This one is not for the easy going or for the faint hearted. It’s the hardest one to put up.

For starters, you’re going to need over a hundred beer bottles. Yes, go figure. Then

you’ll need to be very nimble with your hands as they organize them in the shape of a tree. And yes if you have kids or pets at home, this

one is probably not a good idea.

Wall-mounted

This one is my favourite for the sheer style of it! It’s going to be a 2D tree, not a 3D one but

it’s going to be different and very cool. The idea is to create the shape of the tree on the

wall with stickers and other knick knacks. Drive in a series of nails into the wall and just go crazy putting up socks, magnets, ear rings,

bangles and scores of interesting titbits to create the illusion of the tree!

Wooden logs

This is a very wintry, log cabin kind of tree. Find a set of sawed-off wood blocks and

arrange them in the shape of a tree on the wall. To contrast the muted tones of the

wood, try adding cotton to mimic snow and red and green ornaments. The trick to getting this one right is to do very little and to do it well. Candles on either side will make a nice

touch!
