I mean of course the main reason for your blog is to get people on it to read what you have to tell or teach them but trust me it is easier to rank a blog post instead your whole blog. Google is not really ranking sites, google is ranking results for search queries with the aim to end them and I bet an optimized post about a specific topic is rather a search result than your whole blog.
