What is an Oxygen Blender?
The Blender is a lightweight, compact, air-oxygen blender that provides precise mixing of medical-grade air and oxygen.
It combines compressed Medical Air and Oxygen to deliver blended presurrized gas at a precise oxygen concentration.
These blenders are suitable for number of respiratory applications including routine therapy, ventilator gas supply, Bubble CPAP, SiPAP, Resuscitator, and critically – limited NICU procedures.

Why Air oxygen blender are Used? (Cont’d)
Fluid accumulates in the lungs and the epithelial cells lining the alveoli. In addition, the pulmonary capillaries get damaged. A highly reactive form of the oxygen molecule, called the oxygen free radical, which destroys proteins and membranes in the epithelial cells, probably causes this damage. In humans breathing 100 percent oxygen at normal pressure, here's what happens.
•Brain and cell damage•Fluid accumulates in the lungs.•Gas flow across the alveoli slows down, meaning that the person has to breathe more to get enough oxygen.•Chest pains occur during deep breathing.•The total volume of exchangeable air in the lung decreases by 17 percent.•Mucus plugs local areas of collapsed alveoli -- a condition called atelectasis. The oxygen trapped in the plugged alveoli gets absorbed into the blood, no gas is left to keep the plugged alveoli inflated, and they collapse. Mucus plugs are normal, but they are cleared by coughing. If alveoli become plugged while breathing air, the nitrogen trapped in the alveoli keeps them inflated.
From the above information we understood how harmful the administration of 100% oxygen is , to avoid oxygen toxicity air-oxygen blenders are used.

Operation Overview
The OxyM Air-Oxygen Blender provides selection of oxygen concentrations by means of a single control knob located on the front of the unit. Oxygen concentrations ranging from 21 to 100% are available.
Pre-Use Testing
Alarm Test Reverse Gas Flow Procedure
Alarm Test Connect the Air-Oxygen Blender to air and oxygen sources, pressurize the Blender and turn “ON” the flowmeter.
Set Oxygen Concentration Dial to 60% FIO2.
Disconnect or turn “OFF” the air supply to the Air-Oxygen Blender. The blender should alarm with a loud whistle noise. The whistle indicates the alarm is operating correctly.
Reconnect and activate the air supply line to the Blender, the alarm should stop whistling.
Disconnect or turn “OFF” the oxygen supply line to the Blender. The whistle indicates the alarm is operating correctly.
Reconnect and activate the oxygen supply line to the Blender, the alarm should stop whistling.
If alarm fails to function properly, DO NOT USE.
Reverse Gas Flow Procedure
Disconnect the oxygen hose from the gas source. Remove all outlet connections from the Blender to ensure that there is no outlet flow.
While gradually increasing the air supply pressure from 30-75 psi (2.07-5.17 bar) check for leakage past the oxygen inlet check valve.
Replace the Duckbill Check Valve in the oxygen inlet if leakage is > 100 ml/min.
Repeat steps 1-3 to check for leakage past the air inlet check valve.
Pre-Use Testing (Cont’d…….)
Operating Instructions
Secure Blender to wall or pole mount bracket. Connect Air and Oxygen supply lines from Blender to wall outlets. Connect flowmeter to Blender outlet. Adjust the Oxygen Concentration Dial to the prescribed concentration. NOTE: The Oxygen Concentration Dial does not rotate 360°.DO NOT force dial less than 21% or over 100% oxygen, this will damage the Blender. Confirm the flow of air and/or oxygen mixture to the patient. Confirm the concentration of air/oxygen with an Oxygen Analyzer/Monitor. If necessary activate bleed flow valve to maintain FIO2 accuracy. To activate the bleed, turn and rotate the knurled collar back until it contacts the cover. To deactivate the bleed, pull and rotate the collar away from the cover until bleed flow valve is closed. Turn “OFF” gas supplies when Air-Oxygen Blender is not in use.

TROUBLESHOOTING
AND MAINTENANCE
Cleaning Procedure
Disconnect all gas connections and equipment before cleaning.
Clean exterior surfaces with a cloth dampened with mild detergent and water.
Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
User is to consult with the manufacturer of the ETO equipment for aeration time.
Use an all purpose liquid cleaner on the exterior.
Do not steam autoclave or otherwise subject the blender to temperatures over 145°F.
Do not immerse the assembled Low Flow blender in liquid decontamination agents.
Do not use any strong solvent cleaners on labels or markings.
Blender is compatible with ethylene oxide gas sterilization.
Preventive Maintenance OxyM Air-Oxygen Blender is designed to provide the maximum amount of utilization with a minimum amount of maintenance. When determining the desired frequency of complete overhaul intervals, three variables must be considered:
Frequency of use
Cleanliness of compressed air source
Use of an air inlet filter/water trap
The Blender, like other pieces of health care equipment, will require routine maintenance over a period of time. Before placing the Blender into clinical use, follow the performance-check as described in next slide. When using the Blender with a compressed air source, an air inlet filter/water trap is recommended. Contaminants from hospital air lines may compromise the function of the Blender.

Trouble Shooting System Failure
Cautions Use cleaning solution sparingly on a cloth when cleaning
the unit. Do not saturate the unit - excessive solution causes
damage to internal components. Do not autoclave or gas sterilize the unit. Only competent individuals trained in the repair of this
equipment should attempt to service it as detailed in the service manual. The Service Manual provides detailed information solely for use by individuals having proper knowledge, tools and test equipment, and for service representatives trained by nice Neotech .
Use of nonstandard components: Consult the manufacturer for repair and replacement of components. Use of incorrect component can adversely affect Safety, performance and/or damage the equipment performance
Certifications and Approvals
Particular standard : ISO 11195
Cross contamination : ISO 5358
