Welcome to Southport Little Theatre and to this, our Spring production of ‘42nd Street’ – thequintessential ‘backstage’ musical.

Based on the 1933 Warner Brothers film of the samename, David Merrick’s 1980 Broadway adaptationburst onto the stage and into the hearts ofaudiences, paving the way for many successfulrevivals and tours since.

As the curtain rises, you will be thrown back to1930s Broadway and into a show which focuses onfamed dictatorial director Julian Marsh and hisefforts to mount a successful stage production of ‘amusical extravaganza’ at the height of the Great

Depression. You will be immersed in the action fromthe outset as the cast translate the show from script to stage.

Liz, Charles and Mary have collaborated once again to create this stunning productionand their creative flair and talent has allowed our cast to achieve their best. I would liketo extend a special ‘thank you’ to Mary, our visionary Choreographer, for bringing thebeautiful dance numbers to the stage in what is, undoubtedly, a song and danceextravaganza like no other. Equally, I could not be more proud of our dedicated cast, who have risen to the challenge and each bring their individual characters andperformances to life.

A big thank you to our stage, sound and lighting crew, rehearsal pianists, front of houseteam, box office team, committee members and all those unnamed volunteers whomake a show like this possible. On behalf of the Company, my sincere thanks go to theSouthport Dramatic Club for the use of this truly wonderful theatre.

My final thank you is to you, our audience, for your constant and valued support. Youmake it all worthwhile.

I couldn’t have wished for a better first year as Chairman of our wonderful Company, boasting two successful musicals. As I move into my second year of office and approachtwo further equally spectacular shows, I hope we can rely on your support to ensurethat musical theatre thrives in Southport.

Ordinarily, I would encourage you to sit back and relax, however, I invite you to “gointo your dance” and join us as we’re “getting out of town”.

Enjoy the journey as we travel back to the 42nd Street Theater, New York City whereauditions are about to begin...but don’t be late, Julian is waiting!

‘Musical comedy, the most glorious words in the English language!’ declares Julian Marshin his final plea to Peggy Sawyer in an effort to persuade her to take over the lead in hisshow. What better way to describe a night of theatre where you can relax, smile, laugh, enjoy toe tapping music and watch fabulous dancing!

I am passionate about musical theatre! I have performed for the society for over 30 yearsand most recently directed several shows for them. I am so grateful to BOS for giving methe opportunity to nurture new talent and to pass on everything I have learned over thoseyears. I am particularly delighted to have been given the opportunity to direct thisproduction.

‘42nd Street’ is a deceptively challenging show, but our cast has risen to that challenge. They have worked so incredibly hard to bring you tonight’s performance and it has beena pleasure to watch them grow.

My thanks go out to everyone involved. Special thanks must go to Charles, our musicaldirector and Mary, our choreographer for their friendship, talent and expertise. Bringinga show to life is all about team work and we have had such fun working together over themonths.

‘42nd Street’ is a dancing show however and I must pay special tribute to Mary. She hasinvested so much of her time in nurturing younger cast members, some of whom havenever tap danced before. The performance you will see tonight is a testament to herprofessionalism and dedication. She is an inspiration and from the bottom of our hearts‘We thank you Mary!’

So sit back and enjoy as we invite you all to meet ‘those dancing feet’ and to be sweptaway by the exuberance that can only come from live musical theatre!

Pam joined BOS in 1983 for our production of Brigadoon andhas been a dedicated member ever since. During this time shehas channelled her passion into developing the welfare andsecuring the future of our Society. Pam has been an essentialmember of our Committee for many years and from 2003-2005 led our Society as Chairman. Her dedication was dulyrecognised in 2010 when she was awarded the Jack Donnellyaward for her services to BOS MTC.

Pam has three essential roles within BOS as PublicityChairman, Rehearsal Prompt and Wardrobe Mistress. All threeroles require her keen and expert eye for detail and hercommitment is evident in all that she does.

Our members know they can always rely on Pam for her impartial advice andunconditional support. Always modest and never one take credit; without her passionand support it would be near impossible to stage our productions.

Pam’s motherly nature helps nurture our members (of all ages!) whether that be throughlessons in elocution, accents and diction or simply support when it’s needed most.Hundreds of members have grown and developed under the watchful eye of Pam andwe are so proud that you are ours!

Pam is the undisputed matriarch of our BOS family and we would be lost without you.Thank you, Pammie, we are truly indebted to you and all that you do.
