Alcatel-Lucent 5060 WCS WIRELESS CALL SERVER The Alcatel-Lucent 5060 Wireless Call Server (WCS) provides the call control and signaling functionality central to the Alcatel-Lucent distributed-switching solution for mobile networks. Designed specifically for Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), R4/R5/R6-compliant architectures, it significantly improves network simplicity, capacity and operational efficiency. With its unique approach to building a massively scalable call-processing system, the carrier-grade, field-proven 5060 WCS architecture supports an industry leading “capacity per foot- print” density ratio, and can directly support up to 64 media gateways. Available for deploying in today’s second- and third-generation mobile networks (2G/2.5G/3G), it supports evolving to an all-IP/IMS network as an IP Multimedia Subsystem/Media Gateway Control Function (IMS-MGCF). Architectural flexibility Together with a media gateway and integrated element management system, the 5060 WCS is the heart of the Alcatel-Lucent mobile next- generation network (NGN) solution. The 5060 WCS platform is based on the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA), version 2, the selected technology for all Alcatel- Lucent common call- and session- control platforms. ATCA configura- tions provide both cost savings and capacity improvements compared to prior non-ATCA configurations, while simplifying maintenance and supply chain. Features • Delivers first large-scale true NGN open IT platform deployed for wire- less communications • Configures as either a Gateway Mobile Switching Center (GMSC) or Visiting Mobile Switching Center (VMSC) switch • Supports multiple network signaling interfaces • Offers carrier-grade availability and reliability, in addition to a fully redundant call server with no single point of failure • Deploys active and standby systems in different geographic locations: failure in one switch location will not jeopardize the call-processing capability of the network, and stable-state calls will stay connected Benefits • Reduces footprint and backhaul requirements, lowering CAPEX and OPEX compared to legacy switching systems • Supports multiple access technologies on the same core switching platform to ensure future-safe network upgrades

The Alcatel-Lucent 5060 Wireless Call Server (WCS) provides the call control and signaling functionality central

to the Alcatel-Lucent distributed-switching solution for mobile networks. Designed specifically for Third-Generation

Partnership Project (3GPP), R4/R5/R6-compliant architectures, it significantly improves network simplicity,

capacity and operational efficiency.

With its unique approach to building a massively scalable call-processing system, the carrier-grade, field-proven 5060 WCS architecture supports an industry leading “capacity per foot-print” density ratio, and can directly support up to 64 media gateways. Available for deploying in today’s second- and third-generation mobile networks (2G/2.5G/3G), it supports evolving to an all-IP/IMS network as an IP Multi media Subsystem/Media Gateway Control Function (IMS-MGCF).

Architectural flexibility Together with a media gateway and integrated element management system, the 5060 WCS is the heart of the Alcatel-Lucent mobile next-generation network (NGN) solution. The 5060 WCS platform is based on the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA), version 2, the selected technology for all Alcatel-Lucent common call- and session-control platforms. ATCA configura-tions provide both cost savings and capacity improvements compared to prior non-ATCA configurations, while simplifying maintenance and supply chain.

Features

• Deliversfirstlarge-scaletrueNGNopen IT platform deployed for wire-less communications

• ConfiguresaseitheraGatewayMobile Switching Center (GMSC) or Visiting Mobile Switching Center (VMSC) switch

• Supportsmultiplenetworksignalinginterfaces

• Offerscarrier-gradeavailabilityand reliability, in addition to a fully redundant call server with no single point of failure

• Deploysactiveandstandbysystemsin different geographic locations: failure in one switch location will not jeopardize the call-processing capability of the network, and stable-state calls will stay connected

Benefits

• Reducesfootprintandbackhaulrequirements, lowering CAPEX and OPEXcomparedtolegacyswitchingsystems

• Supportsmultipleaccesstechnologieson the same core switching platform to ensure future-safe network upgrades
