The TETRA system supplied consists of 1 DAMM SB421 system controller, two BS421 carriers and an Online Network Management System. Three Motorola MTM800-E fixed mobile radios and 140 Motorola MTP850 ATEX two-way radios including chargers and operational accessories were also supplied.

SHE manager Wouter van de Velde and E&I Supervisor Danny De Beuckelaer talk about the switch from analogue to digital systems: “The system was nearing the end of its useful lifetime anyway, so replacing it with a new trunking system was a logi-cal step.

“With TETRA, you don't need as many frequencies as with ana-logue systems, which greatly reduces licence fees, while the system can also use the same number of devices. Thanks to the application of TDMA technology, the system also has a higher traffic capacity,” continues Wouter. Having purchased the Online Network Management System, the supplier Flash can log in remotely using the established IP connection.

“Even though the users were already familiar with ana-logue trunking, it took some time for them to adjust to TETRA,” admits Danny de Beuckelaer. “We invested a lot of time beforehand in testing the new system. In the process, the system gained widespread support among the employees.”

Over 80 years ago, the Antwerp Terminal and Processing Company (ATPC) became one of the first storage and refining plants inBelgium. With a staff of 200 on site, safety is a key pri-ority at ATPC. Thanks to the new TETRA system, all employees can be assured of a safe workplace.
