Teaching Excellence Framework

We’re overfl owing with pride here at Essex following the news that we’ve been awarded Gold status in the recent Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

The Government introduced the TEF to recognise and reward excellent learning and teaching, and ensure prospective students can make informed choices when applying to universities. Based on the evidence available, the TEF Panel judged that the University of Essex delivers consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students, exceeding the University’s benchmark. It is of the highest quality found in the UK.

ACCOMMODATION AND TOURS

28

With so much to see and do at our Open Day you’ll be spoilt for choice! To make things easier we run open accommodation which allows you to see as much or as little of our accommodation as you like.

Just head to one of our Information Zones or the Tour and Accommodation Zone outside the Silberrad Student Centre where a member of staff will give you a handy campus map and direct you to our show fl ats. Once inside you can get a feel for the place and see which accommodation is right for you.

OPEN ACCOMMODATION

FAQHow much does accommodation cost, and what does it cover? We have some of the cheapest accommodation in the UK, starting at £79.93 a week. Our accommodation is self-catered and all-inclusive, meaning you don’t have to worry about bills! Check out pages 26-27 for the weekly costs of our different accommodation types.

What’s included in my room and what do I need to bring? All our accommodation (en suite and non-en suite) is fully furnished with a bed, a wardrobe, a desk and chair, bookshelves, a bin and a lamp. You just need to bring bedding, towels, and a few items to make you feel at home; posters, rugs, a teddy bear - we won’t judge!

How many fl atmates will I have? Our accommodation ranges from 4 rooms per fl at to 16 rooms per fl at, all with shared kitchen facilities. You can also choose to live in a single gender fl at (all male or all female students). If you do not specify single gender, you will most likely be in a mixed gender fl at.

Do I need to move out over the holidays?Nope! Your accommodation contract lasts for the duration of the academic year (usually from the beginning of October to the end of June) so the room is yours for that period.

Will my room be cleaned?Housekeeping staff will clean the communal areas once a week, but not individual rooms or bathrooms. You will be responsible for your own washing up. The kitchen rubbish will be collected daily.
