High Altitude Aeronautical Platform Stations(HAAPS) is the name of a technology forproviding wireless narrowband and broadband

telecommunication services as well asbroadcasting services with either airships oraircrafts. The HAAPS are operating at altitudesbetween 3 to 22 km.

HAPS has the potential to deliver 3G andbeyond 3G services in a more spectrallyefficientand cost effective way

HAPSs unique interference characteristicsallow higher system capacity to be achieved

The centralized architecture inherent inHAPS allows the implementation of moreefficient and effective resource managementschemes that are seen to be impractical orimpossible for terrestrial tower-based systems

HAPS will be deployed together withterrestrial and satellites elements to provideanother degree offlexibility for systemdeploymentthat can be easily adjusted to theneeds of the network operators and userstraffic demands

HAPS will play a complementary role in futuremobile system infrastructure e.g. consisting ofW-LAN, cellular, and satellite mobile systemsto ease the deploymentand roll out of the 3Gand beyond 3G services
