What is the Print/Copy Vending Station? The 5596-Raptor II Series Print / Copy Vending Station is a dual-mode device that works in print mode in cooperation with a host PC running print vend software to control access to printers or in copy mode to control access to copiers, microfiche readers, or any other device that can be controlled with a relay closure. Customers use cash, debit cards, PIN cards or credit card to pay for products or services. The Print / Copy Vending Station is part of VENDAPIN’s Raptor II series, which encompasses a full line of vending products. Vend price structure The Print / Copy Vending Station supports up to 16 vend prices based on whether patrons pay for services with cash, debit cards, or PIN cards. Print mode In print vend applications; all price tables reside on the PC. You set the prices in the print vend software, which instructs the Print / Copy Vending Station how much to debit from the card or from escrow for each transaction. In print vend mode, users are charged for each transaction; they cannot be charged by the amount of time they use PC.

Copy mode 1) Patrons are charged for each vend based on each paper, either in black-white or color. The price table contains up to 16 prices, 8

prices for b-w copies and 8 prices for color copies. The 2nd relay option can be turned on for enabling the color copies. 2) Additional interface modes are available to interface to different manufacturer’s machines via serial port.

TimeVend mode Patrons are charged for the time used for the enabled system (computer, video game machine, host machine, etc.). Stand Alone mode The 5596 system is designed to operate as a stand-alone cash/credit card/debit card payment system that can be interfaced to host system such as kiosk, vending machine, etc.

System features Dual print/copy operation The Print / Copy Vending Station was designed to simultaneously control the print and copy modes of multifunction copiers networked to PCs. Power failures restore In the event of a power failure during a transaction, a power-saving feature saves all data and restores them when power is restored. Transaction history The Print / Copy Vending Station offers an extensive capability for tracking vending activity. History meters can be viewed on the web page via web browser or on Setup Express. Application programming interface (API) The Raptor II family of Print/Copy Vending Stations supports an API command set through an on-board USB, RS-232 serial port or Ethernet port that allows you to set parameters, and download meters right from your PC. Although the Print/Copy Vending Station is designed for copier/printer vending as well as computer vending attached to the vending devices. The API allows the terminal to communicate with a PC while connected to a copier/printer, and to vend from both simultaneously. This makes it possible to: • Use the Print/Copy Vending Station with many of the multifunctional copier devices available today. • Substitute the Print/Copy Vending Station for a Computer Vending Station, if needed in a pinch. • Use 5596 systems as the cash-credit card-debit card payment device attached to the host system. • Use the RFID Debit VendaCard Payment Reader-writer

Getting Started S e t t i n g u p t h e u n i t Connecting the unit to the host device Installation instructions tailored to the product you ordered should have been included with the shipment of your unit(s). Vending from a copier If you’re connecting to a copier, a special interface cable (harness), specific to the make and model of your copier, will be required. Vending from a computer If you’re a print vending operation:

1) Run the serial or USB cable from the DB-9 or USB port on the back of the unit to a spare COM port on your computer. 2) Once the unit is powered up (see below), make sure the baud rate of the unit using RS-232 or USB connection is set to 19200

baud. The Print Vend software (such as VendaPrintTM) running on the host PC might set the baud rate automatically to achieve optimal performance.

3) Install the print vend software such as VendaPrintTM and monitored printers according to the instructions provided by the software vendor.

Powering up the Print/Copy Vending Station Plug the Print / Copy Vending Station into a three-prong, grounded wall outlet. The unit cycles through its boot-up sequence, displaying the system version, software version, serial number, and location name. If you ever need to call or email VENDAPIN customer service, you may be asked to provide this boot-up information. Please note the displayed numbers and write them in the spaces provided on the last page of this manual.

Software version This is the version of the software that has been issued with your unit. Location Name Each unit can be configured with the location name. The location name is displayed at boot-up. When the unit is configured at the factory, this parameter is set to “Front Lobby #1”. You should assign each machine at your site a unique location name. This location name is useful when printing the receipts. For information on modifying parameters, see “Programming the unit” section. Custom Messages You can customize the unit’s display with the Custom Messages settings. You need to download custom messages over the serial port using Setup Express program software for Windows, or configure the custom messages via Web browser connected to onboard Raptor II built-in web server via Ethernet network. Programming & Modifying Parameters A set of programming parameters is available to customize the operation of the Print / Copy Vending Station. When the unit is delivered from the factory, the parameters are in their default state.. There are two methods you can use to program the unit:

• Web Access. Using the web browser to connect to 5596 via network to edit the parameters in real time. Please see Web Access Chapter for details.

Communication M u l t i - C o m m u n i c a t i o n I n t e r f a c e s VENDAPIN’s Raptor II version multi-communication interfaces make use of Ethernet, USB or RS-232 for API communication service connected to host system in real-time. The details for each interface are described here for reference. Ethernet Interface Details: TCP/IP Network protocols: Raptor II Ethernet service has the built-in HTTP web server and TCP/IP socket server. The API commands used by Raptor II Ethernet service are based on socket TCP/IP network communication protocol. The configurable network port number is required in order to access to Raptor II socket server in order to receive the formatted response packets based on the specific API command packet. (Example: 192.168.1.100 1234 for TCP/IP socket network access to Raptor II). Note: If either USB/RS-232 API commands are issued, the network connection will be disconnected automatically for security purpose. To access to Raptor2 network, simply re-connect the client access to Raptor2 server and issue API commands as normal. At default, the network API service is disabled, which would only be enabled by logging into Web server and enable the network API service. HTTP Web Server Raptor II has the built-in web server that would allow for accessing to all functions and parameters used by Raptor II API commands as listed below. This web service is an excellent tool to allow the developer to test the API commands and then compare the results listed on the web pages generated by Raptor II web server. This feature is also very important, especially as the back-up access when the host system is off-line. Features: ·HTTP port number: Required in order to access to Raptor II HTTP web server. Example for access to Raptor II Web server: http://192.168.1.100:8080 (Note: 8080 is the default web port number)

·Account levels: Manager and Clerk. Manager has the access level to all functions/parameters. Clerk level has the “read only” access to all services, except for “post credit” function. · The network settings are configurable by web services or API commands. Web Access Usernames/Passwords Manager Username: VENDAPIN Manager Password: vendapin Clerk Username: VENDAPIN Clerk Password: password Manager Username: vendapin (Backup if the manager username and/or password are lost.) Manager Password: vendy123 USB Interface Details: USB interface used by Raptor II requires an USB driver (provided by VENDAPIN) to be installed in the host system. The USB drivers are available for Windows, Mac OS9/X and Linux, which will allow for the USB port to be treated as the “virtual COM” port to allow the host system to interface to Raptor II USB port without worrying about dealing with the USB driver details. This Raptor II USB port is treated as a “slave” device, just like mouse, keyboard and other USB devices, and cannot be operated as a “host/master” USB port per USB specifications (see http://www.usb.org for details). USB Drivers Installation for 5596 Series: Before you plug Raptor II USB port into multi-port or single port USB bus, please ensure that you have followed these requirements:

- Make sure that the power cord and USB cable for 5596 systems are unplugged. - Install 5596 Setup Express in your Windows based PC using CD installer program. - Plugging in more than one (1) 5596 system into USB port, please make sure that the multiple USB cables

connected to 5596 systems are plugged directly into PC USB ports or use bus-powered (not self-powered) multi-port USB hub connected to PC.

- When installing the USB drivers, please use USB drivers comes with CD or under 5596 Setup Express folder in Program Files (installed from CD) as the “standard” Microsoft USB drivers may not work when dealing with multi-USB 5596 systems. Start with one USB 5596 system connection to complete the USB driver installation first, and then do the additional USB 5596 coin-op driver installation ONE at a time until the USB drivers for all USB 5596 systems are properly installed.

- To avoid mixing up the Raptor II using USB port connected to multi-USB ports on PC, make sure that the label are affixed or written on all end of the all USB header cables connected to each USB port at all ends (PC and 5596 systems).

- The default baud rate for USB port is 19200. RS-232 Interface Details: RS-232 serial communication interface used by Raptor II does not require any drivers, as the COM serial port is standard, which is available in all host systems. The default serial communication protocol for RS-232 is: 19200, 8, N, 1 and no handshaking. This RS-232 serial port is also used for interfacing to the optional ASCII serial printer for printing the receipt.

Configuring the Unit for Cash, Debit/PIN Account And/Or Credit Card Operation

C o n f i g u r i n g t h e U n i t Location, Currency, Cash Settings, Date-Time and Others The following parameters are located under the General Menu. No Activity This is the amount of time, between 1 second and 65,535 seconds, during which nothing will happen when a patron has left an escrow in the unit.

• If there is escrow alone in the unit immediately after the vend or deposit was made, the No Activity timer has started. Then the fate of that escrow depends on how the No Activity Payout parameter is set (see below).

Setting the No Activity timer Set the parameter for the amount of time the unit should wait before taking action. Disabling the No Activity timer Setting No Activity Payout to off will not give out coin changes after the No Activity Timer has elapsed. No Activity Payout This parameter is available only if No Activity is set On. It determines what happens to escrow when the no activity timer expires.

• If set to Yes, the unit pays the balance out in change. • If set to No, the escrow is absorbed by the unit and added to the No Activity meter.

Defining currency display The following parameters are located under the General Menu. They determine how currency (Example Currency format: $1.00USD ) appears on the display and in printouts as described here: Currency Symbol Set this parameter to specific currency symbol to display the currency symbol character next to currency. The existing currency symbols are listed here:

• Dollar ($)

• British Pound (£ )

• Yen (¥ )

• Euro (€ )

• Chile (¢ with 2 forward diagonal lines)

• Thailand Baht (β with vertical line in middle)

• Dinar (د )

• Aruba Florin (ƒ )

• No Currency Sign Symbol

Pre-cursor This parameter selects two currency separators (comma or period) or none. This separator will be seen in all menus, displays, and printouts. Currency Code Set this parameter to configure the 3-letter international currency code (ISO 4217) to be displayed after the currency value. Setting cash, credit card and debit card limits The following parameters are located under the General and Readers Menu.

Page 25: 5596 Raptor II SERIES Print / Copy Vending Stationvendapin.com › Adobe files › 5596PrintCopyManual 1 Dec 2011.pdf · 2015-07-25 · In print vend applications; all price tables

Max Cash This is the maximum cash value a patron can insert into the cash acceptance device (MDB coin changer, MDB bill acceptor and parallel coin/bill acceptor). The maximum cash value is $655.35. Exceeding the cash acceptor’s limit Different types of cash acceptors react differently when the last coin or bill inserted exceeds the cash or card value. If your unit uses a MDB acceptor If the patron tries to exceed the maximum value, the bill acceptor rejects the money and an error message will be displayed on screen. The Print / Copy Vending Station adds the escrow amount, card value, and denomination of coin or bill in the acceptor every time a patron inserts cash. If the value exceeds the limit, the last bill will be rejected. If your unit uses a parallel or pulse acceptor This type of coin or bill acceptor cannot reject a coin or bill once it has been inserted into the acceptor. The result is that if the cash or card limit is exceeded, the unit disables the acceptor instead of simply returning the money. It then holds the money in escrow until it drops below the limit again.

• If money is inserted when there is no card in the reader, the cash limit will be exceeded. The escrow must be reduced by making the vend purchases in order to re-enable the acceptor.. For this reason, you might want to set the cash/card limit slightly higher than the cash limit (by the value of the highest bill or coin, for example).

Max Debit/PIN Card-Account/Max Pre-Authorized Credit Card Value This is the maximum card value the machine will accept: $655.55 (or 65535). Free Change If this parameter is set to Yes, the unit will act as a change machine. A patron can insert bills and press the coin return to receive change back. If it is set to No, the patron must perform at least one vend before receiving change, with Auto Change option set to on. Auto Change This parameter determines whether change is paid out after a cash transaction is performed.

• Set it to Enabled to pay out change as soon as the debit takes place. • Set it to Disabled to pay out change only if the user first pushes the coin return or the host PC using API communication service

that issues a command. Coin Return This parameter enables or disables the coin return option. Copier Interface This parameter sets the copier interface based on the type of copiers. At default, the copier interface is set to MODE0, which uses FDI (Foreign Device Interface) to connect the opto-relay circuit to copier for enable/pulse vend operations. Please contact VENDAPIN if you require different copier interfaces such as serial interface to specific manufacturers. Date/Time Set this parameter to configure the real-time date and time clock. The real-time date-time clock is used for time-date stamp on all transactions. Restore to Factory Default Set this parameter to restore all parameters to Factory Default. Determining how credit card reader and/or debit PIN card/device operate The following parameters are located under the Readers Menu. Use them to configure for specific parameters for these credit card reader and debit/PIN reader/device. Print vending options The parameters in the Receipt Printer Menu govern what happens to a card or change after vend. Dual print/copy operation The Print / Copy Vending Station was designed to operate with multifunction copiers. Since it is capable of controlling both the print and copy modes of these machines at the same time, it was necessary to build in a mechanism to handle conflicts arising when the vending

Page 26: 5596 Raptor II SERIES Print / Copy Vending Stationvendapin.com › Adobe files › 5596PrintCopyManual 1 Dec 2011.pdf · 2015-07-25 · In print vend applications; all price tables

device receives print and copy requests simultaneously. To avoid one person inadvertently debiting another person’s card or escrow, we’ve imposed a traffic protocol on jobs coming from the two sources. This is the way it works:

• If print vending is initiated first, copier control will still be active. To avoid a conflict, turn on the Auto Change parameters. This

will assure that any remaining escrow is returned after the print vend. • The patron can use the same escrow for paying for both copies and prints as needed

Determining how cash acceptors operate The following parameters are located under the Coin Changer, Bill Validator and Parallel Bill/Coin Acceptor Menus. Use them to configure for specific parameters for these coin and bill acceptors. Coin Changer The Coin Changer Menu incorporates parameters for enabling/disabling international currency values. The coin types are downloaded to the Raptor II memory automatically every time the coin changer is initialized at power-up. This type of feature will allow for any MDB international coin changers to be plugged in Raptor II MDB bus and configure the currency channels automatically. Bill Acceptor/Validator The Bill Validator Menu incorporates parameters for enabling/disabling international currency values. The bill types are downloaded to the Raptor II memory automatically every time the bill acceptor is initialized at power-up. This type of feature will allow for any MDB international bill acceptors to be plugged in Raptor II MDB bus and configure the currency channels automatically. Pulse Bill/ Coin Acceptor (1 – 6 channels) The Pulse Bill/Coin Acceptor can be plugged in the parallel bill/coin port on Raptor II board and then configure the pulse values for each channel.

Setting Copy Prices U s i n g t h e P r i c e M e n u You can set 1-16 prices for each price channel in the Print / Copy Vending Station. These prices apply only to copying and timevend services. To set the price parameters

1. Click on Prices tab (Setup Express) or Prices link (Web) 2. Configure the 1-16 prices based on paper sizes. Typically, 1-8 prices are for black-white copies, and 9-16 prices are for color

copies. 3. The price parameters that are displayed will depend on whether the machine is operating in standard, steering or timevend mode:

• If the system is configured to operate in standard mode, only price 1 and price 2 will be used for copies. • If the system is configured to operate in steering mode, there will be 16 prices for copies. • If the system is configured to operate in timevend mode, only price 1 will be used.

4. Enable Relay 2 if it’s used for selecting the color copies only. Relay 2 will be enabled if the escrow/balance is equal or exceed Price 9.

Coordinating Timing with the Copier Device S e t t i n g t h e t i m i n g p a r a m e t e r s u s i n g T i m i n g M e n u Re-configuring timing parameters The timing parameters in the Print / Copy Vending Station should be set to match the timing of the copier or other vending device. (These values should be published in the host product’s documentation.) If you’re experiencing problems that indicate that the timing is off between the VENDAPIN system and host-vending device (e.g., free copies are being dispensed), try fine-tuning the timing parameters. To modify the timing parameters

1. Select Timing Menu. . 2. Change the timing parameters appropriate to the particular symptom you’re witnessing.

Common symptoms can be found in “Copier problems” section under “Error Messages, Troubleshooting & Misc” chapter found in previous pages here, and are also included in the discussions of the parameters below. Timing parameters

Steering Use this parameter to set the software to operate in either steering mode, standard mode or TimeVend. Sense Time (1-2) This parameter is set in 1-millisecond increments, ranging from 1 to 65535 milliseconds. At default, the 20mS time value is used. This is the minimum length of time a debit pulse must be active for it to be considered a valid debit pulse.

• Sense time 1: This parameter applies to opto 1, which registers the price 1 pulse in standard mode and the debit pulse in steering mode.

• Sense time 2: This parameter applies to opto 2, which registers the price 2 pulse, in standard mode only. Notes:

• Setting the parameter to zero really sets it to 1 milliseconds, which might be enough time to flush out any noise. • If Sense Time is set too short, the vend device could interpret noise as a debit pulse. • If it is set too long, the machine might dispense free copies.

Blind Time (1-2) This parameter is set in 1-millisecond increments, ranging from 1 to 65535 milliseconds. At default, the 20mS time value is used. This is the length of time after a valid pulse when any further pulses registered by that opto are ignored. Pulses on the other opto in standard mode will be recognized if still active after blind time expires.

• Blind time 1: This parameter applies to opto 1, which monitors the price1 pulse in standard mode and the debit pulse in steering mode.

• Blind time 2: This parameter applies to opto2, which monitors the price 2 pulse, in standard mode only. Notes:

• Blind Time masks unwanted pulses (i.e., double pulses or “glitches”). • If this parameter is set too short, double debits could occur. • If it is set too long, vends could be missed.

Reset Delay (1-2) This parameter is set in 1-millisecond increments, ranging from 1 to 65535 milliseconds. The Reset Delay is the length of time that the relays stay energized after the job is terminated (i.e., the escrow value falls below the vend price). If escrow falls below the vend price, Reset Delay does not occur until after Sense Time has expired.

• Reset Delay 1: This parameter applies to optocoupler 1, which registers the price 1 pulse in standard mode and the debit pulse in steering mode.

• Reset Delay 2: This parameter applies to optocoupler 2, which registers the price 2 pulse, in standard mode only. Notes:

• The host device must be kept on long enough for the job to complete (e.g., for the paper to get through the copier without jamming).

• Please ensure that the reset delay value is not set too long that another job may starts (and copies are dispensed for free). Trailing Edge (1-2) Set this parameter to Yes for trailing edge debiting and to No for leading edge debiting. Trailing edge debiting With this type of debiting, the software delays the debit until after the debit pulse goes inactive. This makes the Print / Copy Vending Station work with any device that requires a long debit pulse period to keep the relays energized. If the Sense Time count is satisfied, the software looks for the corresponding opto to go inactive. It waits for an indefinite length of time for this to occur. After the opto returns to inactive, the corresponding price is debited.

Debit Pulse

Notes: • Debit Pulse signal is generated by the copier signal through the copier interface while the copier is making copies. • Eject Delay is not used for this system.

Leading edge debiting With leading-edge debiting, the debit occurs right after the Sense Time delay is satisfied. Today’s high-speed copiers generally work best with this type of debiting because their pulse lengths occur in very rapid succession. The Sense Time and Blind Time can be completed soon after the copier vend signal returns inactive, leaving the system ready for another pulse. If the Sense Time count is satisfied, the debit occurs as soon as the Sense Time delay is satisfied.

Note: Debit Pulse signal is generated by the copier signal through the copier interface while the copier is making copies. Eject Delay This parameter is not used for this system. Vending Interface H o w t h e P r i n t / C o p y V e n d i n g S t a t i o n a n d c o p i e r c o m m u n i c a t e Every time a customer makes a selection on a vending device, such as a copier, pulses (signals) are detected by the Copy Vending Station through an optical isolator or “opto”. Optos allow the unit to “see” a particular signal condition inside the vending device. Based on the customer’s selection, individual optos are turned on or off. The debit price is determined by the collective state of the optos. The software determines whether there is enough money to cover the vend, and if so, turns on a relay (switch) that enables the device to make the vend. Pulse detection in standard and steering modes The Copy Vending Station connects to the host device via a harness, which plugs into the DB15 connector. The terminal uses either standard or steering pulse detection to intercept signals it receives over that connection. Configuring the terminal to operate in standard, steering or timevend mode requires no hardware settings on Raptor II board for the major types of copy machines.

Advantages and disadvantages of the two methods Standard mode Steering mode

Advantages: • Fewer wires • Easier setup • Time vending available

• More prices available • Fewer relay settings • Can handle up to 16 black-white and color

paper sizes.

Disadvantages: • Fewer prices available • More relay settings

• More complicated pricing structure • More complicated setup • More wires

Standard mode In standard mode, the vending device can offer only two price selections. Each selection transmits its own debit pulse, which is registered in the Copy Vending Station by an opto dedicated to that pulse. Two corresponding relays enable the vending device at the appropriate price level. For this scenario, let’s assume the vending device is a copier and that the price 2 selection costs more than the price 1 selection. 1. The customer inserts cash into payment device or card into the credit or debit card reader. 2. The value on the card is compared with both price 1 and price 2.

• If the value on the card or in escrow is greater than or equal to price 1, relay 1 is enabled. • If the value on the card or in escrow is greater than or equal to price 2, both relay 1 and relay 2 are enabled.

3. The customer makes a selection and presses the copy button. 4. The incoming debit pulse is detected by the corresponding opto. If the appropriate relay for that price level was enabled (i.e., there

was enough value on the card), the card is debited and the copy is made. • If a price 1 debit pulse was detected by opto 1, the unit debits price 1. • If a price 2 debit pulse was detected by opto 2, the unit debits price 2.

5. The customer continues making copies. When the value in escrow falls below a price level, the corresponding relay is disabled, and subsequent debit pulses for that selection are ignored.

Steering mode The Copy Vending Station monitors five different pulses from the vending device. Four of the signals carry information about the selection made by the patron. The other signal is the debit pulse. Sequence of events

1. When the patron inserts a credit card, debit card or cash, four optos (optos 2, 3, 4 and 5) in the Copy Vending Station register the selection conditions in the vending device to determine the vend price.

2. If the value on the card or in escrow is enough to cover the price level selected, then relay 1 enables the vending device. 3. When a vend is made, a debit pulse is sent from the vending device to the Copy Vending Station. This pulse is registered by opto

1, and the appropriate price is debited from the card (or cash) or is logged to the customer’s PIN account. When the value on the card or in escrow falls below the selected price level or the patron ejects the card, relay 1 is disabled until either more money is inserted or a lower price level is selected.

STEERING MODE RELAY ACTION

If the value of the card or escrow Then relay 1 is

If the value of the card or escrow Then both relay 1 and 2 are

Is greater than the price #9 Enabled Is less than the price #9 Disabled

Note: * Opto 1 registers the debit pulse and does not affect pricing.

How steering optos determine price Think of an opto as a switch that is turned either on or off, depending on the information it receives from the signal it monitors. The selections made by the user are registered by four optos in the Copy Vending Station. The table below shows that, by using every unique on/off combination of optos 2–5, a total of sixteen price levels is possible.

Time Vending H o w d o e s T i m e V e n d i n g w o r k s ? Time vend operates in auto-debit mode: the patron inserts a credit card, debit/PIN card account or cash, a debit takes place, and the time-vend period begins. When the time-vend period runs out, relay 1 remains enabled and a new time-vend period automatically starts with a debit from the card or escrow. The cycle continues until the value left on the card or in escrow falls below the vend price, at which time relay 1 is disabled. The no activity timer is disabled during the time vend sessions. Interrupting a time-vend session Once a time-vend session has started, it can be stopped or interrupted before the time purchased runs out. To cancel time vend before a debit takes place After the customer inserts a card or cash, the time vend delay provides a buffer, giving the vend device time to start up before the debit takes place, and the time-vend period begins its countdown. It is possible to accept cash during the time vend delay, without a debit taking place. The time vend delay applies only to the first time period (not in subsequent auto-debits). To perform transactions during a time-vend session Optos 1 and 2 and the serial port are still active during time-vend mode; if debit pulses from the copier or commands from the printer are received during a time-vend session, the unit will perform a debit if there is an escrow available. Setting up the unit for time vending Time vend is active only in timevend mode; steering mode does not support this feature. Time vend operates from cash, credit cards, debit/PIN card/account. To set the unit up for time vending:

1. Select the Timing Menu, and change Mode to Time Vend, configure TimeVend Timer and Time Vend Delay parameters. Time Vend parameter This parameter defines the duration of one time-vend period. Acceptable values range from 1 second to 65500 seconds for timevend timer. At default, the timevend timer is set to 60 seconds. Time Vend Delay parameter This parameter is visible only if Time Vend is set to something other than zero. The acceptable range for this parameter is 1 second to 65500 seconds. At default, the delay timer is set to 2 seconds. This delay period starts just after the cash payment is added to the escrow, and relay 1 enabled, but before the money is debited from the escrow. The purpose is to give the vend device time to start without taking time away from the time-vend period purchased. AutoVend This parameter sets to use the autovend that will deduct the escrow for every elapsed timevend timer. If the autovend option is set to OFF, the external button will be used for to adding the time to the timevend timer on every pressed button. The lamp will flash if the timevend timer is less than 15 seconds until the timevend timer reaches zero. If the auto payout change option is set to ON, the remaining payout change will be paid out by the coin changer.

Using Counters/Meters A b o u t c o u n t e r s / m e t e r s All vending activity is recorded with an extensive set of internal electronic meters. All meters come in pairs:

• Resettable meters. Allow for periodic recording of transactions. They are usually viewed, then reset immediately on some regular basis.

• Non-resettable meters. Provide a tamper-proof record of all transactions made on the system, which will last at least 10 years or longer.

You can access the meters via Setup Express or Web browser under Resettable/Non-Resettable Meters and System Stats. You can view and reset meters and prints them out (via web browser). Viewing and resetting counters meters You can view both resettable and non-resettable meters directly on the web browser or Setup Express.

Setting up a Printer C o n f i g u r i n g t h e s e r i a l p r i n t e r You can hook up a portable printer to the Copy Vending Station to print out the receipt. Follow the instructions below to connect the printer to the unit.

Rear Unit DB-9 Female Serial Port

1. Open the enclosure and connect a serial printer to the DB9 port on the back of the controller board. Note: The controller board is mounted on the inside enclosure door.

Copier problems The problems listed below result from timing parameters in the Print/Copy Vending Station not being synchronized with the timing of the copier. Problem Cause Solution

Multiple debits occur on single vend • Sense time too short • Blind time too short

• Increase sense time value • Increase blind time value

Free copies being dispensed: No debits occur No debit on last vend Skipped debits (on every other copy)

• Sense time too long • Reset delay too long • Blind time too long • Bypass key left on

• Reduce sense time value • Reduce delay time value • Reduce blind time value • Turn off bypass copy mode

Paper is jamming • Reset delay too short • Increase reset delay value Notes:

• Please ensure that you tested the copy vend using various paper sizes and copies on copier to verify that the vend timings are configured correctly.

• Please refer the additional timing configuration details found in “Coordinating Timing with the Copier Device” chapter. Restoring data after a power failure In the event of a power failure during a transaction, the unit will save the following information.

• Escrow amount • All last transactions

When the unit regains power, the data listed above is restored. If there was escrow before the power outage, that amount will be restored and the display updated. The patron can then continue with the transaction. M i s c e l l a n e o u s Loading coin tubes You can load the coin tubes in one of two ways without impacting the meters: Enter bypass mode with the bypass key switch. Deposit the change and turn off the key switch. Escrow will be cleared. While the bypass key switch is activated, the unit is in bypass mode. During this time, coin changer is enabled, and the remaining payment devices will be disabled.. Each time the operator inserts or manually dispenses coins, the total coin tube balance will be displayed on LCD screen. WARNING! The Print / Copy Vending Station software does not monitor the coin sensors during manual payouts of cash. This means that it is possible to “dispense ” change from an empty coin tube by accidentally pressing on the buttons. If this happens, the display will still show it as a coin paid out. Clearing escrow In the event that unwanted escrow is left on the LCD, it is possible to remove it without impacting the meters by turning on the bypass key, which will reset the escrow to zero balance.

W h a t i s a n I P A d d r e s s ? ( S t a t i c I P , D y n a m i c I P ) An IP address identifies a computer or other device to a network. The basic concept is simple: every device on a network needs to have its own address. That way, data is sent to the right place. There are IP addresses are used by the whole Internet, and others, only used by locally, for example in your home or office. Why isn't there One Set of IP Addresses for the Whole World? It might be nice if every computer had its own IP address. Unfortunately, computers come and go frequently — millions are added, removed, or rearranged every day. It would be impossible for everyone in the world to keep up with the changes. Another reason that local networks use their own addresses is that the Internet ran out of "regular" IP addresses long ago. To avoid these problems the Internet community does a number of things:

- They use one set of addresses for the whole world. However each local network uses its own addresses. You and your neighbors probably use some of the same IP addresses, but your network doesn't talk directly to your neighbor's without "translating" the addresses, so it's ok.

- Some addresses are used only temporarily. When the computer is turned off, the address is given to someone else. - They create a secondary address called a subnet mask that changes the way the main IP address is read. (People with simple

networks don't need to know much about this.) Whether for the whole world, or just for your home or office, an IP address always looks like this (four numbers separated by three periods): 192.168.0.1 The subnet mask has the same format. The subnet masks on your own home network will almost always have exactly these numbers: 255.255.255.0 Don't change the subnet mask without being sure what it does! You need to keep a record of these IP addresses: 1. The one your IT department gives you. This one is used by the whole world to access your network. 2. The address of your 5596 unit on your own network. By default VENDAPIN sets the IP address to 192.168.254.100. That's the IP address you type in an Internet browser to log in your 5596 unit. 3. There are situations where you will need to know IP addresses of other devices in your network. What's the Difference Between Static and Dynamic IP Address? The IP address from your IT department is assigned one of two ways:

- Set to an IP address, which is unchanged for months or years at a time. This is a static IP address. - Set to an IP which is only good for a limited time, and which is changed according to the policy set by your IT department's

DHCP router. This is a dynamic IP address. Because a static IP can be relied on for an indefinite period, some networking equipment requires a static IP. Dynamic IPs are used in large networks where computers are frequently reconfigured, or where a limited number of IP address are available to share between many computers.
