    INTRODUCTION

    Dear Customer,

Congratulations on your choice to buy a Husqvarna product! Husqvarna is based on a tradition that dates back to 1689,when the Swedish King Karl XI ordered the construction of a factory on the banks of the Husqvarna River, for productionof muskets. The location was logical, since water power was harnessed from the Huskvarna River to create the water-powered plant. During the more than 300 years of beeing, the Husqvarna factory has produced a lot of different products, from wood stoves to modern kitchen appliances, sewing machines, bicycles, motorcycles etc. In 1956, the first motor

driven lawn mowers appeared, followed by chain saws in 1959, and it is within this area Husqvarna is working today.

Today Husqvarna is one of the leading manufacturers in the world of forest and garden products, with quality as ourhighest priority. The business concept is to develop, manufacture and market motor driven products for forestry andgardening as well as for building and construction industry. Husqvarna

s aim is also to be in the front edge according toergonomics, usability, security and environmental protection. That is the reason why we have developed many differentfeatures to provide our products within these areas.

We are convinced that you will appreciate with great satisfaction the quality and performance of our product for a verylong time to come. The purchase of one of our products gives you access to professional help with repairs and servicewhenever this may be necessary. If the retailer who sells your machine is not one of our authorised dealers, ask for theaddress of your nearest service workshop.

It is our wish that you will be satisfied with your product and that it will be your companion for a long time. Think of this

    operator

s manual as a valuable document. By following its

content (using, service, maintenance etc) the life span andthe second-hand value of the machine can be extended. If you will sell this machine, make sure that the buyer will getthe operator

    s manual.

Thank you for using a Husqvarna product.

Husqvarna AB has a policy of continuous product development and therefore reserves the right to modify the design andappearance of products without prior notice.

Chain brake and front hand guard

Your chain saw is equipped with a chain brake that is

designed to stop the chain if you get a kickback. The chainbrake reduces the risk of accidents, but only you canprevent them.

Take care when using your saw and make sure thekickback zone of the bar never touches any object.

    !

WARNING! Most chain saw accidentshappen when the chain touches theoperator. You must use approvedpersonal protective equipment wheneveryou use the machine. Personal protectiveequipment cannot eliminate the risk ofinjury but it will reduce the degree ofinjury if an accident does happen. Askyour dealer for help in choosing the rightequipment.

    GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

    8 English

The chain brake (A) can either be activated manually(by your left hand) or automatically by the inertiarelease mechanism.

The brake is applied when the front hand guard (B) ispushed forwards.

This movement activates a spring-loaded mechanismthat tightens the brake band (C) around the enginedrive system (D) (clutch drum).

The front hand guard is not designed solely to activatethe chain brake. Another important feature is that itreduces the risk of your left hand hitting the chain ifyou lose grip of the front handle.

The chain brake must be engaged when the chainsaw is started to prevent the saw chain from rotating.

Use the chain brake as a parking brake whenstarting and when moving over short distances, toreduce the risk of moving chain accidentally hittingyour leg or anyone or anything close by.

To release the chain brake pull the front hand guardbackwards, towards the front handle.

Kickback can be very sudden and violent. Mostkickbacks are minor and do not always activate thechain brake. If this happens you should hold the chainsaw firmly and not let go.

The way the chain brake is activated, either manuallyor automatically by the inertia release mechanism, depends on the force of the kickback and the positionof the chain saw in relation to the object that thekickback zone of the bar strikes.

If you get a violent kickback while the kickback zone ofthe bar is farthest away from you the chain brake isdesigned to be activated by the inertia in the kickbackdirection.

If the kickback is less violent or the kickback zone ofthe bar is closer to you the chain brake will beactivated manually by the movement of your left hand.

In the felling position the left hand is in a position thatmakes manual activation of the chain brakeimpossible. With this type of grip, that is when the lefthand is placed so that it cannot affect the movement

    GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

    English

    9

of the front hand guard, the chain brake can only beactivated by the inertia action.

Will my hand always activate the chainbrake during a kickback?

No. It takes a certain force to move the hand guardforward. If your hand only lightly touches the front guardor slips over it, the force may not be enough to trigger the

chain brake. You should also maintain a firm grip of thechain saw handles while working. If you do andexperience a kickback, your hand may never leave thefront handle and will not activate the chain brake, or thechain brake will only activate after the saw has swungaround a considerable distance. In such instances, thechain brake might not have enough time to stop the sawchain before it touches you.

There are also certain positions in which your handcannot reach the front hand guard to activate the chainbrake; for example, when the saw chain is held in fellingposition.

Will my inetria activated chain brakealways activate during kickback in theevent of a kickback?

No. First your brake must be in working order. Testing thebrake is simple, see instructions under the headingChecking, maintaining and servicing chain saw safetyequipment. We recommend you do before you begin eachwork session. Second the kickback must be strongenough to activate the chain brake. If the chain brake istoo sensitive it would activate all the time which would bea nuisance.

Will my chain brake always protect mefrom injury in the event of a kickback?

No. First, the chain brake must be in working order toprovide the intended protection. Second, it must beactivated during the kickback as described above to stopthe saw chain. Third, the chain brake may be activated butif the bar is too close to you the brake might not haveenough time to slow down and stop the chain before thechain saw hits you.

Only you and proper working technique can eliminatekickback and its danger.

    Throttle lockout

The throttle lockout is designed to prevent accidentaloperation of the throttle control. When you press the lock(A) (i.e. when you grasp the handle) it releases the throttlecontrol (B). When you release the handle the throttlecontrol and the throttle lockout both move back to their

original positions. This arrangement means that thethrottle control is automatically locked at the idle setting.

    Chain catcher

The chain catcher is designed to catch the chain if it snapsor jumps off. This should not happen if the chain isproperly tensioned (see instructions under the headingAssembly) and if the bar and chain are properly servicedand maintained (see instructions under the headingGeneral working instructions).

    Right hand guard

Apart from protecting your hand if the chain jumps orsnaps, the right hand guard stops branches and twigsfrom interfering with your grip on the rear handle.

    Vibration damping system

Your machine is equipped with a vibration dampingsystem that is designed to minimize vibration and makeoperation easier.

    The machine

s vibration damping system reduces thetransfer of vibration between the engine unit/cuttingequipment and the machine

s handle unit. The body of thechain saw, including the cutting equipment, is insulatedfrom the handles by vibration damping units.

Cutting hardwoods (most broadleaf trees) creates morevibration than cutting softwoods (most conifers). Cuttingwith cutting equipment that is blunt or faulty (wrong typeor badly sharpened) will increase the vibration level.

    Stop switch

Use the stop switch to switch off the engine.

    Muffler

The muffler is designed to keep noise levels to a minimumand to direct exhaust fumes away from the user.

In areas with a hot, dry climate there is a high risk of fires. These areas are sometimes subject to government rulesrequiring among other things the muffler must beequipped with an approved type of spark arrestor mesh.

    Cutting equipment

This section describes how to choose and maintain yourcutting equipment in order to:

    Reduce the risk of kickback.

Reduce the risk of the saw chain breaking or jumpingoff the bar.

    Obtain optimal cutting performance.

Extend the life of cutting equipment.

    Avoid increasing vibration levels.

    General rules

Only use cutting equipment recommended by us!See instructions under the heading Technical data.

Keep the chains cutting teeth properlysharpened! Follow our instructions and use the

    !

WARNING! Overexposure to vibrationcan lead to circulatory damage or nervedamage in people who have impairedcirculation. Contact your doctor if youexperience symptoms of overexposureto vibration. Such symptoms includenumbness, loss of feeling, tingling, pricking, pain, loss of strength, changesin skin colour or condition. Thesesymptoms normally appear in thefingers, hands or wrists. Thesesymptoms may be increased in coldtemperatures.

    !

WARNING! The exhaust fumes from theengine are hot and may contain sparks

which can start a fire. Never start themachine indoors or near combustiblematerial!

CAUTION! The muffler gets very hot during and afteruse. This also applies during idling. Be aware of the firehazard, especially when working near flammablesubstances and/or vapours.

    !

WARNING! Never use a saw without amuffler, or with a damaged muffler. Adamaged muffler may substantiallyincrease the noise level and the firehazard. Keep fire fighting equipmenthandy. If a spark arrestor screen isrequired in your area, never use the sawwithout or with a broken spark arrestorscreen.

    recommended file gauge.

A damaged or badlysharpened chain increases the risk of accidents.

Maintain the correct depth gauge setting! Followour instructions and use the recommended depthgauge clearance.

Too large a clearance increasesthe risk of kickback.

    Keep the chain properly tensioned!

If the chain isslack it is more likely to jump off and lead to increasedwear on the bar, chain and drive sprocket.

Keep cutting equipment well lubricated andproperly maintained!

A poorly lubricated chain ismore likely to break and lead to increased wear on thebar, chain and drive sprocket.

    Cutting equipment designed to reduce

    kickback

The only way to avoid kickback is to make sure that thekickback zone of the bar never touches anything.

By using cutting equipment with built-in kickbackreduction and keeping the chain sharp and well-maintained you can reduce the effects of kickback.

    Bar

The smaller the tip radius the lower the chance of kickback.

    Chain

A chain is made up of a number of links, which areavailable in standard and low-kickback versions.

Some terms that describe the bar and chain

To maintain the safety features of the cutting equipment, you should replace a worn or damaged bar or chain witha bar and chain combinations recommended byHusqvarna. See instructions under the heading TechnicalData for a list of replacement bar and chain combinations

    we recommend.

    Bar

    Length (inches/cm)

Number of teeth on bar tip sprocket (T).

Chain pitch (inches). The spacing between the drive

links of the chain must match the spacing of the teethon the bar tip sprocket and drive sprocket.

Number of drive links. The number of drive links isdetermined by the length of the bar, the chain pitchand the number of teeth on the bar tip sprocket.

Bar groove width (inches/mm). The groove in the barmust match the width of the chain drive links.

Chain oil hole and hole for chain tensioner. The barmust be matched to the chain saw design.

Sharpening your chain and adjustingdepth gauge setting

General information on sharpening cutting teeth

Never use a blunt chain. When the chain is blunt youhave to exert more pressure to force the bar throughthe wood and the chips will be very small. If the chainis very blunt it will produce wood powder and no chipsor shavings.

A sharp chain eats its way through the wood andproduces long, thick chips or shavings.

The cutting part of the chain is called the cutter andconsists of a cutting tooth (A) and the depth gauge(B). The cutters cutting depth is determined by thedifference in height between the two (depth gauge

    setting).

When you sharpen a cutting tooth there are four importantfactors to remember.

    1 Filing angle

    2 Cutting angle

    3 File position

    4 Round file diameter

It is very difficult to sharpen a chain correctly without theright equipment. We recommend that you use our file

gauge. This will help you obtain the maximum kickbackreduction and cutting performance from your chain.

See instructions under the heading Technical data forinformation about sharpening your chain.

    Sharpening cutting teeth

To sharpen cutting teeth you will need a round file and afile gauge. See instructions under the heading Technicaldata for information on the size of file and gauge that arerecommended for the chain fitted to your chain saw.

Check that the chain is correctly tensioned. A slackchain will move sideways, making it more difficult tosharpen correctly.

Always file cutting teeth from the inside face. Reducethe pressure on the return stroke. File all the teeth onone side first, then turn the chain saw over and file theteeth on the other side.

!WARNING! Departure from thesharpening instructions considerablyincreases the risk of kickback.

    GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

    English 13

File all the teeth to the same length. When the lengthof the cutting teeth is reduced to 4 mm (0.16") thechain is worn out and should be replaced.

General advice on adjusting depth gauge setting

When you sharpen the cutting tooth (A) the depthgauge setting (C) will decrease. To maintain optimalcutting performance the depth gauge (B) has to befiled down to achieve the recommended depth gaugesetting. See instructions under the heading Technicaldata to find the correct depth gauge setting for yourparticular chain.

    Adjustment of depth gauge setting

The cutting teeth should be newly sharpened beforeadjusting the depth gauge setting. We recommendthat you adjust the depth gauge setting every thirdtime you sharpen the cutting teeth. NOTE! Thisrecommendation assumes that the length of thecutting teeth is not reduced excessively.

You will need a flat file and a depth gauge tool. Werecommend that you use our depth gauge tool toacheive the correct depth gauge setting and bevel forthe depth gauge.

Place the depth gauge tool over the chain. Detailedinformation regarding the use of the depth gauge tool, will be found on the package for the depth gauge tool.Use the flat file to file off the tip of the depth gauge thatprotrudes through the depth gauge tool. The depthgauge setting is correct when you no longer feelresistance as you draw the file along the depth gaugetool.

    Tensioning the chain

The more you use a chain the longer it becomes. It istherefore important to adjust the chain regularly to take upthe slack.

Check the chain tension every time you refuel. NOTE! Anew chain has a running-in period during which youshould check the tension more frequently.

Tension the chain as tightly as possible, but not so tightthat you cannot pull it round freely by hand.

Undo the bar nuts that hold the clutch cover/chainbrake. Use the combination spanner. Then tighten thebar nuts by hand as tight as you can.

Raise the tip of the bar and stretch the chain bytightening the chain tensioning screw using thecombination spanner. Tighten the chain until it doesnot sag from the underside of the bar.

Use the combination spanner to tighten the bar nutswhile lifting the tip of the bar at the same time. Check

that you can pull the chain round freely by hand andthat it does not sag from the underside of the bar.

The position of the chain tensioning screw on our chainsaws varies from model to model. See instructions underthe heading What is what? to find out where it is on yourmodel.

!WARNING! The risk of kickback isincreased if the depth gauge setting istoo large!

    !

WARNING! A slack chain may jump off

and cause serious or even fatal injury.

    GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

    14 English

    Lubricating cutting equipment

    Chain oil

Chain oil must demonstrate good adhesion to the chainand also maintain its flow characteristics regardless ofwhether it is warm summer or cold winter weather.

As a chain saw manufacturer we have developed anoptimal chain oil which, with its vegetable oil base, is alsobiodegradable. We recommend the use of our own oil forboth maximum chain life and to minimise environmentaldamage. If our own chain oil is not available, standardchain oil is recommended.

Never use waste oil! Using waste oil can be dangerousto you and damage the machine and environment.

    Filling with chain oil

All our chain saws have an automatic chain lubricationsystem. On some models the oil flow is also

    adjustable.

The saw chain oil tank and the fuel tank are designedso that the fuel runs out before the saw chain oil.

However, this safety feature requires that you use theright sort of chain oil (if the oil is too thin it will run outbefore the fuel), and that you adjust the carburetor as

recommended (a lean mixture may mean that the fuellasts longer than the oil) and that you also use therecommended cutting equipment (a bar that is toolong will use more chain oil).

    Checking chain lubrication

Check the chain lubrication each time you refuel. Seeinstructions under the heading Lubricating the bar tipsprocket.

Aim the tip of the bar at a light coloured surface about20 cm (8 inches) away. After 1 minute running at 3/4

throttle you should see a distinct line of oil on the lightsurface.

If the chain lubrication is not working:

Check that the oil channel in the bar is not obstructed.Clean if necessary.

Check that the groove in the edge of the bar is clean.

    Clean if necessary.

Check that the bar tip sprocket turns freely and thatthe lubricating hole in the tip sprocket is not blocked.Clean and lubricate if necessary.

If the chain lubrication system is still not working aftercarrying out the above checks and associated measuresyou should contact your service agent.

!WARNING! Poor lubrication of cuttingequipment may cause the chain to snap, which could lead to serious, even fatalinjuries.

IMPORTANT! When using vegetable based saw chainoil, dismantle and clean the groove in the bar and sawchain before long-term storage. Otherwise there is a riskof the saw chain oil oxidizing, which will result in the sawchain becoming stiff and the bar tip sprocket jamming.

    GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

    English 15

    Chain drive sprocket

The clutch drum is fitted with one of the following drivesprockets:

A Spur sprocket (the chain sprocket is welded on thedrum)

    B Rim sprocket (replaceable)

Regularly check the degree of wear on the drive sprocket.Replace if wear is excessive. Replace the drive sprocketwhenever you replace the chain.

    Needle bearing lubrication

Both versions of sprockets have a needle bearing on thedrive shaft, which has to be greased regularly (once aweek). CAUTION! Use a high-quality bearing grease orengine oil.

See instructions under the heading Maintenance, Needlebearing lubrication.

    Checking wear on cutting equipment

    Check the chain daily for:

Visible cracks in rivets and links.

    Whether the chain is stiff.

Whether rivets and links are badly worn.

Replace the saw chain if it exhibits any of the pointsabove.

We recommend you compare the existing chain with anew chain to decide how badly the existing chain is worn.

When the length of the cutting teeth has worn down toonly 4 mm the chain must be replaced.

    Bar

    Check regularly:

Whether there are burrs on the edges of the bar.

Remove these with a file if necessary.

Whether the groove in the bar has become badlyworn. Replace the bar if necessary.

Whether the tip of the bar is uneven or badly worn. If

a hollow forms on the underside of the bar tip this isdue to running with a slack chain.

To prolong the life of the bar you should turn it overdaily.

!WARNING! Most chain saw accidentshappen when the chain touches theoperator.

Wear personal protective equipment. Seeinstructions under the heading Personalprotective equipment.

Do not tackle any job that you feel youare not adequately trained for. See

instructions under the headingsPersonal protective equipment, How toavoid kickback, Cutting equipment andGeneral working instructions.

Avoid situations where there is a risk ofkickback. See instructions under theheading Machines safety equipment.

Use the recommended protectiveequipment and check its condition. Seeinstructions under the heading Generalworking instructions.

    ASSEMBLY

    16 English

    Fitting the bar and chain

Check that the chain brake is in disengaged position bymoving the front hand guard towards the front handle.

Remove the bar nuts and remove the clutch cover (chainbrake). Take off the transportation ring (A).

Fit the bar over the bar bolts. Place the bar in its rearmostposition. Place the chain over the drive sprocket locate itin the groove on the bar. Begin on the top edge of the bar.

Make sure that the edges of the cutting links are facingforward on the top edge of the bar.

Fit the clutch cover and locate the chain adjuster pin in the

hole in the bar. Check that the drive links of the chain fitcorrectly over the drive sprocket and that the chain iscorrectly located in the groove in the bar. Tighten the barnuts finger tight.

Tension the chain by turning the chain tensioning screw

clockwise using the combination spanner. The chain

should be tensioned until it does not sag from theunderside of the bar.

The chain is correctly tensioned when it does not sag fromthe underside of the bar, but can still be turned easily byhand. Hold up the bar tip and tighten the bar nuts with thecombination spanner.

When fitting a new chain, the chain tension has to bechecked frequently until the chain is run-in. Check thechain tension regularly. A correctly tensioned chainensures good cutting performance and long life.

    FUEL HANDLING

    English 17

FuelNote! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engineand must always be run using a mixture of petrol and two-stroke oil. It is important to accurately measure theamount of oil to be mixed to ensure that the correctmixture is obtained. When mixing small amounts of fuel,

even small inaccuracies can drastically affect the ratio ofthe mixture.

    Petrol

Use good quality unleaded or leaded petrol. CAUTION! Engines equipped with catalytic

converters must be run on unleaded fuelmixtures. Leaded gasoline will destroy the catalyticconverter and it will no longer serve its purpose. Thegreen fuel cap on saws fitted with catalytic convertersmeans that only unleaded gasoline can be used.

The lowest recommended octane grade is 90 (RON).If you run the engine on a lower octane grade than 90so-called knocking can occur. This gives rise to a highengine temperature and increased bearing load, which can result in serious engine damage.

When working with continuous high revs (e.g. limbing)a higher octane is recommended.

    Environment fuel

HUSQVARNA recommends the use of alkylate fuel, eitherAspen two-stroke fuel or environmental fuel for four-strokeengines blended with two-stroke oil as set out below. Notethat carburettor adjustment may be necessary whenchanging the type of fuel (see the instructions under theheading Carburettor).

    Running-in

Avoid running at a too high speed for extended periodsduring the first 10 hours.

    Two-stroke oil

For best results and performance use HUSQVARNAtwo-stroke engine oil, which is specially formulated forour air-cooled two-stroke engines.

Never use two-stroke oil intended for water-cooledengines, sometimes referred to as outboard oil (ratedTCW).

Never use oil intended for four-stroke engines.

A poor oil quality and/or too high oil/fuel ratio may

jeopardise function and decrease the life time ofcatalytic converters.

    Mixing ratio

    1:50 (2%) with HUSQVARNA two-stroke oil.

1:33 (3%) with oils class JASO FB or ISO EGB formulatedfor air-cooled, two-stroke engines.

    Mixing

Always mix the petrol and oil in a clean containerintended for fuel.

Always start by filling half the amount of the petrol tobe used. Then add the entire amount of oil. Mix (shake)the fuel mixture. Add the remaining amount of petrol.

Mix (shake) the fuel mixture thoroughly before fillingthe machines fuel tank.

Do not mix more than one months supply of fuel at atime.

If the machine is not used for some time the fuel tankshould be emptied and cleaned.

Chain oil We recommend the use of special oil (chain oil) with

    good adhesion characteristics.

Never use waste oil. This results in damage to the oilpump, the bar and the chain.

It is important to use oil of the right grade (suitableviscosity range) to suit the air temperature.

In temperatures below 0C (32F) some oils becometoo viscous. This can overload the oil pump and resultin damage to the oil pump components.

Contact your service agent when choosing chain oil.

!WARNING! Always ensure there isadequate ventilation when handling fuel.

    FUEL HANDLING

    18 English

    Fuelling

Clean the area around the fuel cap. Clean the fuel andchain oil tanks regularly. The fuel filter must be replacedat least once a year. Contamination in the tanks causesmalfunction. Make sure the fuel is well mixed by shakingthe container before refuelling. The capacities of the chainoil tank and fuel tank are carefully matched. You shouldtherefore always fill the chain oil tank and fuel tank at the

    same time.

Fuel safety Never refuel the machine while the engine is running.

Make sure there is plenty of ventilation when refuellingor mixing fuel (petrol and 2-stroke oil).

Move the machine at least 3 m from the refuelling

    point before starting it.

    Never start the machine:

1 If you have spilt fuel or chain oil on the machine. Wipeoff the spillage and allow remaining fuel to evaporate.

2 If you have spilt fuel on yourself or your clothes, change your clothes. Wash any part of your body thathas come in contact with fuel. Use soap and water.

3 If the machine is leaking fuel. Check regularly for leaksfrom the fuel cap and fuel lines.

    Transport and storage

Always store the chain saw and fuel so that there is norisk of leakages or fumes coming into contact withsparks or naked flames from electrical equipment, electric motors, relays/switches, boilers and the like.

Always store fuel in an approved container designedfor that purpose.

For longer periods of storage or for transport of thechain saw, the fuel and chain oil tanks should beemptied. Ask where you can dispose of waste fuel andchain oil at your local petrol station.

Ensure the machine is cleaned and that a completeservice is carried out before long-term storage.

The bar guard must always be fitted to the cuttingattachment when the machine is being transported orin storage, in order to prevent accident contact withthe sharp chain. Even a non-moving chain can causeserious cuts to yourself or persons you bump into withan exposed chain.

    Long-term storage

Empty the fuel/oil tanks in a well ventilated area. Store the

fuel in approved cans in a safe place. Fit the bar guard.Clean the machine. See instructions under the headingMaintenance schedule.

!WARNING! Taking the followingprecautions, will lessen the risk of fire:

Do not smoke and do not place any hotobjects in the vicinity of fuel.

Always stop the engine and let it cool fora few minutes before refuelling.

When refuelling, open the fuel cap slowlyso that any excess pressure is releasedgently.

Tighten the fuel cap carefully afterrefuelling.

Always move the machine away from therefuelling area before starting.

!WARNING! Fuel and fuel vapour arehighly flammable. Take care whenhandling fuel and chain oil. Be aware ofthe risks of fire, explosion and thoseassociated with inhalation.

!WARNING! Never use a machine withvisible damage to the spark plug guardand ignition cable. A risk of sparkingarises, which can cause a fire.

Starting: The chain brake must be engaged when thechain saw is started. Activate the brake by moving thefront hand guard forwards.

Ignition; choke: Set the choke control in the chokeposition. This should automatically set the stop switch tothe start position.

Start throttle: The correct choke/start throttle setting isobtained by moving the control to the choke position.

If the machine is fitted with a decompression valve (A):Press the valve to reduce the pressure in the cylinder andmake starting easier. You should always use thedecompression valve when starting the machine. Once

the machine has started the valve will automatically returnto its closed position.

    Warm engine

Use the same procedure as for starting a cold engine butwithout setting the choke control in the choke position. The correct choke/start throttle setting is obtained bymoving the choke control to the choke position and thenpushing it in again.

    Starting

Grip the front handle with your left hand. Hold the chainsaw on the ground by placing your right foot through therear handle. Pull the starter handle with your right handand pull out the starter cord slowly until you feel aresistance (as the starter pawls engage) then pull firmlyand rapidly. Never twist the starter cord around yourhand.

CAUTION! Do not pull the starter cord all the way out anddo not let go of the starter handle when the cord is fullyextended. This can damage the machine.

Push in the choke control as soon as the engine fires andkeep pulling until the engine starts. When the enginestarts, quickly apply full throttle; the throttle start lock will

automatically disengage. As the chain brake is still engaged the speed of the enginemust be set to idling as soon as possible, this is achievedby quickly disengaging the throttle lock. This prevents

    General working instructions

    Basic safety rules

    1 Look around you:

To ensure that people, animals or other things cannotaffect your control of the machine.

To make sure that none of the above might come

within reach of your saw or be injured by falling trees.

CAUTION! Follow the instructions above, but do not use a

chain saw in a situation where you cannot call for help incase of an accident.

2 Do not use the machine in bad weather, such asdense fog, heavy rain, strong wind, intense cold, etc.Working in bad weather is tiring and often bringsadded risks, such as icy ground, unpredictable fellingdirection, etc.

3 Take great care when removing small branches andavoid cutting bushes (i.e. cutting many small branchesat the same time). Small branches can be grabbed bythe chain and thrown back at you, causing seriousinjury.

4 Make sure you can move and stand safely. Check thearea around you for possible obstacles (roots, rocks, branches, ditches, etc.) in case you have to movesuddenly. Take great care when working on slopingground.

5 Take great care when cutting a tree that is in tension.A tree that is in tension may spring back to its normal

position before or after being cut. If you positionyourself incorrectly or make the cut in the wrong placethe tree may hit you or the machine and cause you tolose control. Both situations can cause seriouspersonal injury.

    IMPORTANT!

6 Before moving your chain saw switch off the engineand lock the chain using the chain brake. Carry thechain saw with the bar and chain pointing backwards.

Fit a guard to the bar before transporting the chainsaw or carrying it for any distance.

7 When you put the chain saw on the ground, lock thesaw chain using the chain brake and ensure you havea constant view of the machine. Switch the engine offbefore leaving your chain saw for any length of time.

    General rules

1 If you understand what kickback is and how it happensthen you can reduce or eliminate the element ofsurprise. By being prepared you reduce the risk.Kickback is usually quite mild, but it can sometimes bevery sudden and violent.

2 Always hold the chain saw firmly with your right handon the rear handle and your left hand on the fronthandle. Wrap your fingers and thumbs around thehandles. You should use this grip whether you areright-handed or left-handed. This grip minimises theeffect of kickback and lets you keep the chain sawunder control. Do not let go of the handles!

3 Most kickback accidents happen during limbing. Makesure you are standing firmly and that there is nothing inthe way that might make you trip or lose your balance.

Lack of concentration can lead to kickback if thekickback zone of the bar accidentally touches abranch, nearby tree or some other object.

Have control over the workpiece. If the pieces youintend to cut are small and light, they can jam in thesaw chain and be thrown towards you. Even if thisdoes not need to be a danger, you may be surprisedand lose control of the saw. Never saw stacked logs orbranches without first separating them. Only saw onelog or one piece at a time. Remove the cut pieces tokeep your working area safe.

4 Never use the chain saw above shoulder heightand try not to cut with the tip of the bar. Never usethe chain saw one-handed!

5 You must have a steady stance in order to have fullcontrol over the chain saw. Never work standing on aladder, in a tree or where you do not have firm groundto stand on.

6 Always use a fast cutting speed, i.e. full throttle.

7 Take great care when you cut with the top edge of thebar, i.e. when cutting from the underside of the object.

This is known as cutting on the push stroke. The chaintries to push the chain saw back towards the user. If

  • 8/8/2019 570 Manual

    23/44

    WORKING TECHNIQUES

    English 23

the saw chain is jamming, the saw may be pushedback at you.

8 Unless the user resists this pushing force there is arisk that the chain saw will move so far backwards thatonly the kickback zone of the bar is in contact with thetree, which will lead to a kickback.

Cutting with the bottom edge of the bar, i.e. from thetop of the object downwards, is known as cutting onthe pull stroke. In this case the chain saw pulls itselftowards the tree and the front edge of the chain sawbody rests naturally on the trunk when cutting. Cuttingon the pull stroke gives the operator better control overthe chain saw and the position of the kickback zone.

9 Follow the instructions on sharpening and maintainingyour bar and chain. When you replace the bar andchain use only combinations that are recommendedby us. See instructions under the headings Cuttingequipment and Technical data.

    Basic cutting technique

    General

Always use full throttle when cutting!

Reduce the speed to idle after every cut (running theengine for too long at full throttle without any load, i.e.without any resistance from the chain during cutting, can lead to serious engine damage).

Cutting from above = Cutting on the pull stroke.

Cutting from below = Cutting on the push stroke.

Cutting on the push stroke increases the risk of kickback.See instructions under the heading How to avoid kickback.

    Terms

Cutting = General term for cutting through wood.

Limbing = Cutting branches off a felled tree.

Splitting = When the object you are cutting breaks offbefore the cut is complete.

There are five important factors you should considerbefore making a cut:

1 Make sure the cutting equipment will not jam in thecut.

2 Make sure the object you are cutting will not split.

3 Make sure the chain will not strike the ground or anyother object during or after cutting.

4 Is there a risk of kickback?

5 Do the conditions and surrounding terrain affect howsafely you can stand and move about?

Two factors decide whether the chain will jam or the objectthat you are cutting will split: the first is how the object issupported before and after cutting, and the second iswhether it is in tension.

In most cases you can avoid these problems by cutting intwo stages; from the top and from the bottom. You need tosupport the object so that it will not trap the chain or splitduring cutting.

The following instructions describe how to handle the

commonest situations you are likely to encounter whenusing a chain saw.

    !

WARNING! Never use a chain saw by

holding it with one hand. A chain saw isnot safely controlled with one hand.Always have a secure, firm grip aroundthe handles with both hands.

IMPORTANT! If the chain jams in the cut: stop theengine! Dont try to pull the chain saw free. If you do youmay be injured by the chain when the chain sawsuddenly breaks free. Use a lever to open up the cut andfree the chain saw.

    Limbing

When limbing thick branches you should use the sameapproach as for cutting.

Cut difficult branches piece by piece.

    Cutting

If you have a pile of logs, each log you attempt to cutshould be removed from the pile, placed on a saw horseor runners and cut individually.

Remove the cut pieces from the cutting area. By leavingthem in the cutting area, you increase the risk forinadvertently getting a kickback, as well as increasing therisk of losing your balance while working.

The log is lying on the ground. There is little risk of thechain jamming or the object splitting. However there is a riskthat the chain will touch the ground when you finish the cut.

Cut all the way through the log from above. Avoid lettingthe chain touch the ground as you finish the cut. Maintainfull throttle but be prepared for what might happen.

If it is possible (can you turn the log?) stop cutting about2/3 of the way through the log.

Turn the log and finish the cut from the opposite side.

The log is supported at one end. There is a high riskthat it will split.

Start by cutting from below (about 1/3 of the way through).

Finish by cutting from above so that the two cuts meet.

The log is supported at both ends. There is a high riskthat the chain will jam.

Start by cutting from above (about 1/3 of the way through).

Finish by cutting from below so that the two cuts meet.

!WARNING! Never attempt to cut logswhile they are in a pile or when a coupleof logs are lying together. Suchprocedures drastically increase the riskof kickback which can result in a seriousor fatal injury.

    Tree felling technique

    Safe distance

The safe distance between a tree that is to be felled andanyone else working nearby is at least 2 1/2 tree lengths.Make sure that no-one else is in this risk zone before orduring felling.

    Felling direction

The aim is to fell the tree in a position where you can limband cross-cut the log as easily as possible. You want it tofall in a location where you can stand and move aboutsafely.

Once you have decided which way you want the tree to fallyou must judge which way the tree would fall naturally.

    Several factors affect this:

    Lean of the tree

    Bend

    Wind direction

    Arrangement of branches

    Weight of snow

Obstacles within the reach of the tree: for example, other trees, power lines, roads and buildings.

Look for signs of damage and rot in the stem, thismakes it more probably that the tree will break andstart to fall before you expect it to.

You may find you are forced to let the tree fall in its naturaldirection because it is impossible or dangerous to try tomake it fall in the direction you first intended.

Another very important factor, which does not affect the

felling direction but does affect your safety, is to make surethe tree has no damaged or dead branches that mightbreak off and hit you during felling.

The main point to avoid is letting the tree fall onto anothertree. It is very dangerous to remove a trapped tree andthere is high accident risk. See instructions under theheading Freeing a tree that has fallen badly.

Clearing the trunk and preparing your retreatDelimb the stem up to shoulder height. It is safer to workfrom the top down and to have the tree between you andthe saw.

Remove any undergrowth from the base of the tree andcheck the area for obstacles (stones, branches, holes, etc.) so that you have a clear path of retreat when the treestarts to fall. Your path of retreat should be roughly 135degrees away from the intended felling direction.

    2 Retreat path

    3 Felling direction

    WORKING TECHNIQUES

    26 English

    Felling

Felling is done using three cuts. First you make thedirectional cuts, which consist of the top cut and thebottom cut, then you finish with the felling cut. By placingthese cuts correctly you can control the felling directionvery accurately.

    Directional cuts

To make the directional cuts you begin with the top cut.Stand to the right of the tree and cut on the pull stroke.

Next make the bottom cut so that it finishes exactly at theend of the top cut.

The directional cuts should run 1/4 of the diameterthrough the trunk and the angle between the top cut andbottom cut should be 45.

The line where the two cuts meet is called the directionalcut line. This line should be perfectly horizontal and atright angles (90) to the chosen felling direction.

    Felling cut

The felling cut is made from the opposite side of the treeand it must be perfectly horizontal. Stand on the left sideof the tree and cut on the pull stroke.

Make the felling cut about 3-5 cm (1.5-2 inches) above thebottom directional cut.

Set the spike bumper (if one is fitted) just behind the fellinghinge. Use full throttle and advance the chain/bar slowlyinto the tree. Make sure the tree does not start to move inthe opposite direction to your intended felling direction.

Drive a wedge or breaking bar into the cut as soon as it isdeep enough.

Finish the felling cut parallel with the directional cut line sothat the distance between them is at least 1/10 of thetrunk diameter. The uncut section of the trunk is called thefelling hinge.

The felling hinge controls the direction that the tree falls in.

!WARNING! Unless you have specialtraining we advise you not to fell treeswith a diameter larger than the bar lengthof your saw!

    27/44

    WORKING TECHNIQUES

    English 27

All control over the felling direction is lost if the fellinghinge is too narrow or non-existent, or if the directionalcuts and felling cut are badly placed.

When the felling cut and directional cut are complete thetree should start to fall by itself or with the aid of a fellingwedge or breaking bar.

We recommend that you use a bar that is longer than thediameter of the tree, so that you can make the felling cutand directional cuts with single cutting strokes. Seeinstructions under the heading Technical data section tofind out which lengths of bar are recommended for yoursaw.

There are methods for felling trees with a diameter largerthan the bar length. However these methods involve amuch greater risk that the kickback zone of the bar willcome into contact with the tree.

Freeing a tree that has fallen badly

    Freeing a trapped tree

It is very dangerous to remove a trapped tree and there ishigh accident risk.

Preparations: Work out which side is in tension and wherethe point of maximum tension is (i.e. where it would breakif it was bent even more).

Decide which is the safest way to release the tension andwhether you are able to do it safely. In complicatedsituations the only safe method is to put aside your chainsaw and use a winch.

    WORKING TECHNIQUES

    28 English

    General advice:

Position yourself so that you will be clear of the tree orbranch when the tension is released.

Make one or more cuts at or near the point of maximumtension. Make as many cuts of sufficient depth asnecessary to reduce the tension and make the tree orbranch break at the point of maximum tension.

Never cut straight through a tree or branch that is intension!

If you must cut across tree/limb, make two to three cuts,

one inch apart, one to two inches deep.

Continue to cut deeper until tree/limb bends and tensionis released.

Cut tree/limb from outside the bend, after tension hasbeen released.

    How to avoid kickback

    What is kickback?

The word kickback is used to describe the suddenreaction that causes the chain saw and bar to jump off anobject when the upper quadrant of the tip of the bar, known as the kickback zone, touches an object.

Kickback always occurs in the cutting plane of the bar.Normally the chain saw and bar are thrown backwardsand upwards towards the user. However, the chain sawmay move in a different direction depending on the way itwas being used when the kickback zone of the bartouched the object.

Kickback only occurs if the kickback zone of the bartouches an object.

    Limbing

Make sure that you can stand and move about safely.Work on the left side of the trunk. Work as close aspossible to the chain saw for maximum control. If possible, let the weight of the chain saw rest on the trunk.

Keep the trunk between you and the chain saw as youmove along the trunk.

    Cutting the trunk into logs

See instructions under the heading Basic cuttingtechnique.

!WARNING! Kickback can happen verysuddenly and violently; kicking the chainsaw, bar and chain back at the user. Ifthis happens when the chain is moving itcan cause very serious, even fatalinjuries. It is vital you understand whatcauses kickback and that you can avoidit by taking care and using the rightworking technique.

!WARNING! A majority of kickbackaccidents occur during limbing. Do not

use the kickback zone of the guide bar.Be extremely cautious and avoidcontacting the log, other limbs or objectswith the nose of the guide bar. Beextremely cautious of limbs undertension. They can spring back towardyou and cause loss of control resultingin injury.

    MAINTENANCE

    English 29

GeneralThe user must only carry out the maintenance andservice work described in this Operators Manual. Moreextensive work must be carried out by an authorisedservice workshop.

Carburettor adjustmentDue to existing environmental and emissions legislationyour chain saw is equipped with movement limiters on thecarburettor adjuster screws. These limit the adjustmentpossibilities to a maximum of a 1/2 turn.

Your Husqvarna product has been designed andmanufactured to specifications that reduce harmfulemissions.

    Function

The carburettor governs the engines speed via thethrottle control. Air and fuel are mixed in thecarburettor. The air/fuel mixture is adjustable. Correctadjustment is essential to get the best performancefrom the machine.

Adjusting the carburettor means that the engine is

adapted to local operating conditions, e.g. climate, altitude, petrol and the type of 2-stroke oil.

The carburettor has three adjustment controls:

    - L = Low speed jet

    - H = High speed jet

    - T = Idle adjustment screw

The L and H-jets are used to adjust the supply of fuelto match the rate that air is admitted, which iscontrolled with the throttle. If they are screwedclockwise the air/fuel ratio becomes leaner (less fuel)and if they are turned anti-clockwise the ratiobecomes richer (more fuel). A lean mixture gives ahigher engine speed and a rich mixture gives a lowerengine speed.

The T-screw regulates the throttle setting at idlespeed. If the T-screw is turned clockwise this gives ahigher idle speed; turning it anti-clockwise gives alower idle speed.

    Basic settings and running in

The basic carburettor settings are adjusted during testingat the factory. Avoid running at a too high speed during thefirst 10 hours.

CAUTION! If the chain rotates while idling the T-screwmust be turned anti-clockwise until the chain stops.

    Rec. idle speed: 2700 rpm

    Fine adjustment

When the machine has been run-in the carburettorshould be finely adjusted. The fine adjustment should becarried out by a qualified person. First adjust the L-jet,then the idling screw T and then the H-jet.

    Changing the type of fuel

Fine tuning may be required if the chain saw, afterchanging the type of fuel, performs differently with regard

to starting, acceleration, maximum speed, etc.

    Conditions

Before any adjustments are made the air filter shouldbe clean and the cylinder cover fitted. Adjusting thecarburettor while a dirty air filter is in use will result ina leaner mixture next time the filter is cleaned. Thiscan give rise to serious engine damage.

Do not attempt to adjust the L and H jets beyond eitherstop as this could cause damage.

Now start the machine according to the startinginstructions and let it warm up for 10 minutes.

Place the machine on a flat surface so that the barpoints away from you and so that the bar and chain donot come into contact with the surface or otherobjects.

    Low speed jet L

Turn the low speed jet L clockwise until it stops. If theengine accelerates poorly or idles unevenly, turn the lowspeed jet L anticlockwise until good acceleration andidling are achieved.

Fine adjustment of the idle speed T

Adjust the idle speed with the T-screw. If it is necessary tore-adjust, turn the T-screw clockwise while the engine isrunning, until the chain starts to rotate. Then turn anti-clockwise until the chain stops. When the idle speed iscorrectly adjusted the engine should run smoothly inevery position and the engine speed should be safelybelow the speed at which the chain starts to rotate.

    High speed jet H

At the factory the engine is adjusted at sea level. When working at a high altitude or in differentweather conditions, temperatures and atmospherichumidity, it may be necessary to make minoradjustments to the high speed jet.

CAUTION! If the high speed jet is screwed in too far,it may damage the piston/cylinder.

When test run at the factory, the high speed jet is set sothat the engine satisfies the applicable legal requirementsat the same time as achieving maximum performance. The carburettors high speed jet is then locked using alimiter cap in the fully screwed out position. The limiter caplimits the potential to adjust the high speed jet to at mosthalf a turn.

CAUTION! There is an integrated speed governor in theignition system that limits the maximum speed to 13300rpm. The maximum speed will not exceed 13300 rpmwhen the high speed jet is adjusted (screwed in). Whenthe speed governor is activated, you will get the samesound experience as when the chain saw 4-cycles.

To adjust the carburettor correctly you should contact amechanic with access to a rev counter.

CAUTION! As the spark is cut off, the rev counter does notshow speeds higher than 13300 rpm.

    Correctly adjusted carburettor

When the carburettor is correctly adjusted the machineaccelerates without hesitation and 4-cycles a little at full

throttle. It is also important that the chain does not rotateat idle. If the L-jet is set too lean it may cause startingdifficulties and poor acceleration. If the H-jet is set toolean the machine will have less power, poor accelerationand could suffer damage to the engine.

Checking, maintaining andservicing chain saw safetyequipment

Chain brake and front hand guard

    Checking brake band wear

Brush off any wood dust, resin and dirt from the chain

brake and clutch drum. Dirt and wear can impair operationof the brake.

Regularly check that the brake band is at least 0.6 mm

thick at its thinnest point.Checking the front hand guard

Make sure the front hand guard is not damaged and thatthere are no visible defects such as cracks.

Move the front hand guard forwards and back to makesure it moves freely and that it is securely anchored to theclutch cover.

Note! All service and repair work on the machine

demands special training. This is especially true of themachines safety equipment. If your machine fails any ofthe checks described below we recommend that youtake it to your service workshop.

    Checking the inertia brake release

Place the chain saw, with the engine switched off, on astump or other stable surface. Release the front handle

and let the saw fall by its own weight, rotating around therear handle towards the stump.

When the bar hits the stump the brake should beapplied.

    Checking the brake trigger

Place the chain saw on firm ground and start it. Make surethe chain does not touch the ground or any other object.See the instructions under the heading Start and stop.

Grasp the chain saw firmly, wrapping your fingers andthumbs around the handles.

Apply full throttle and activate the chain brake by tiltingyour left wrist forward onto the front hand guard. Do not let

go of the front handle. The chain should stopimmediately.

    Throttle lockout

Make sure the throttle control is locked at the idlesetting when the throttle lockout is released.

Press the throttle lockout and make sure it returns toits original position when you release it.

Check that the throttle control and throttle lockoutmove freely and that the return springs work properly.

Start the chain saw and apply full throttle. Release thethrottle control and check that the chain stops andremains stationary. If the chain rotates when thethrottle control is in the idle position you should checkthe carburettor idle adjustment.

Check that the right hand guard is not damaged and thatthere are no visible defects, such as cracks.

    Vibration damping system

Regularly check the vibration damping units for cracks ordeformation.

Make sure the vibration damping units are securelyattached to the engine unit and handle unit.

    Stop switch

Start the engine and make sure the engine stops whenyou move the stop switch to the stop setting.

    Muffler

Never use a machine that has a faulty muffler.

Regularly check that the muffler is securely attached to

    the machine.

Some mufflers are equipped with a special spark arrestormesh. If your machine has this type of muffler, you shouldclean the mesh at least once a week. This is best donewith a wire brush. A blocked mesh will cause the engineto overheat and may lead to serious damage.

Note! The mesh must be replaced if it is damaged. If themesh is blocked the machine will overheat and this willcause damage to the cylinder and piston. Never use amachine with a muffler that is in poor condition. Neveruse a muffler if the spark arrestor mesh is missing ordefective.

The muffler is designed to reduce the noise level and todirect the exhaust gases away from the operator. Theexhaust gases are hot and can contain sparks, which maycause fire if directed against dry and combustible material.

    Air filter

The air filter must be regularly cleaned to remove dust and

dirt in order to avoid: Carburettor malfunctions

    Starting problems

    Loss of engine power

    Unnecessary wear to engine parts.

    Excessive fuel consumption.

Remove the air filter after taking off the air filter cover. When refitting make sure that the air filter seals tightlyagainst the filter holder. Clean the filter by brushing orshaking it.

The filter can be cleaned more thoroughly by washing it inwater and detergent.

An air filter that has been in use for a long time cannot becleaned completely. The filter must therefore be replacedwith a new one at regular intervals. A damaged air filtermust always be replaced.

A HUSQVARNA chain saw can be equipped with differenttypes of air filter according to working conditions, weather, season, etc. Contact your dealer for advice.

    Spark plug

The spark plug condition is influenced by:

Incorrect carburettor adjustment. An incorrect fuel mixture (too much or incorrect type of

    oil).

    A dirty air filter.

These factors cause deposits on the spark plugelectrodes, which may result in operating problems andstarting difficulties.

If the machine is low on power, difficult to start or runspoorly at idle speed: always check the spark plug firstbefore taking any further action. If the spark plug is dirty, clean it and check that the electrode gap is 0.5 mm. The

spark plug should be replaced after about a month inoperation or earlier if necessary.

Note! Always use the recommended spark plug type! Useof the wrong spark plug can damage the piston/cylinder.Check that the spark plug is fitted with a suppressor.

    Lubricating the bar tip sprocket

Lubricate the bar tip sprocket each time you refuel. Usethe special grease gun and a good quality bearing grease.

    Needle bearing lubrication

The clutch drum has a needle bearing on the output shaft.

This needle bearing must be lubricated regularly (once aweek).

When lubricating, remove the clutch cover by looseningthe two bar nuts. Lay the saw on its side with the clutchdrum upwards.

Lubrication involves engine oil dripping into the centre ofthe clutch drum as it rotates.

    Adjustment of the oil pump

The oil pump is adjustable. Adjustments are made byturning the screw using a screwdriver or combinationspanner. The machine is supplied from the factory set to

1 turn open. Turning the screw clockwise will reduce theoil flow and turning the screw anti-clockwise will increasethe oil flow.

    Recommended settings:

These recommendations apply to Husqvarnas chain oil,for other chain oils increase the oil flow by one step.

    Cooling system

To keep the working temperature as low as possible the

machine is equipped with a cooling system. The cooling system consists of:

1 Air intake on the starter.

    2 Air guide plate.

    3 Fins on the flywheel.

4 Cooling fins on the cylinder.

5 Cylinder cover (directs cold air over the cylinder).

Clean the cooling system with a brush once a week, moreoften in demanding conditions. A dirty or blocked coolingsystem results in the machine overheating which causesdamage to the piston and cylinder.

Note! The cooling system on a chain saw with catalytic

converter must be cleaned daily. This is particularlyimportant on chain saws with catalytic converters, because the higher exhaust temperature requires efficientcooling of the engine and the catalytic converter unit.

Air Injection centrifugalcleaningCentrifugal cleaning means the following: All air to thecarburettor passes through the starter. Dirt and dust iscentrifuged out by the cooling fan.

IMPORTANT! In order to maintain operation of thecentrifugal cleaning system it must be regularlymaintained. Clean the air intake to the starter, the fins onthe flywheel, the space around the flywheel, inlet pipe andcarburettor compartment.

Winter useRunning problems can occur when using the machine inthe cold and snowy conditions caused by:

    Too low engine temperature.

Icing of the air filter and carburettor.

Special measures are therefore often required: Preheat the intake air to the carburettor by using the

    heat from the cylinder.

Partly mask the air inlet on the starter to increase theworking temperature of the engine.

    Fitting the winterising kit

Cut out a hole using a knife as shown.

Fit the winter cover in the cylinder cover.

    Temperature 0C or colder:

Move the cover from position A to position B so thatpreheated air from the cylinder can pass into the

carburettor compartment and prevent, e.g. the air filtericing up again. When fitting the winter cover in position Bthe centrifugal cleaning nozzle is blocked. This measurerequires the air filter to be cleaned more regularly.

    Temperature -5C or colder:

For running the machine in cold weather or powder snow,a special cover is available, which is mounted on the

starter housing. This reduces the intake of cold air andprevents large amounts of snow from being sucked in.

CAUTION! If the special winterising kit has been fitted orany measures have been taken to increase thetemperature these changes must be reversed before themachine is used in normal temperature conditions.Otherwise there is a risk of overheating, resulting in

severe damage to the engine.IMPORTANT! Any maintenance other than that describedin this manual must be carried out by your servicing dealer(retailer).
