Small Cells

● Efficient reuse of spectrum across a geographic area.

● Reduction in the # of users competing for resources at each BS, achieving high coverage.

● Decreasing the transmission power drastically.

mmWave● Refers to frequencies in range 30-300 GHz, also known as Extremely High Frequency (EHF).● The wavelength is between 10mm-1mm.

● “ To put large amounts of new bandwidth into play there is only one way to go: up in frequency, Why? ”

● Frequency spectrum at this band still undeveloped widely, more BW is available.

● Efficient frequency reuse due to high attenuation.

● Inherent security and privacy because of narrow beamwidths and limited range.

● Extremely small wavelengths, allowing for huge # of antenna elements (Massive MIMO).● 7

Massive MIMO

● An evolving technology, upgraded from the current MIMO technology.

● The Massive MIMO system uses arrays of antenna containing few hundred antennas which are at the same time , frequency serving many tens of user terminals.

● Extract all the benefits of MIMO but on a larger scale.●

Proactive Caching

● Densification requires high-speed expensive backhauls.

● Assuming that the backhaul is capacity-limited, caching users’ contents at the edge of the network (namely at the base stations and user terminals) holds as a solution to offload the backhaul and reduce the access delays to the contents.

D2D Communications● Refers to direct communication between devices allowing local exchange of user traffic without

going through a network infrastructure.●
