• Extra investment needed goes to 10G PON OLT and 10G PON ONU, where >70% of the cost is optical transceivers

• 10G PON OLT and ONU optical transceivers have become very affordable as of 2017

• 2 to 5 times more base station needed than 4G LTE• More fiber plants required to accommodate increased number of base stations• Expensive (at least today) 25G (i-temp), 100G and tunable WDM optics needed in

front-haul and transport network• Overall, 4 to 5 time more investment will be needed than 4G LTE to have full-
