READING❖Use of ReadyGen ELA Curriculum

❖Reader’s Workshop Model• Teacher teaches targeted mini-lessons that meet common core standards• Student practice using text based answers through completion on an exit ticket• Students self-select “just right” books to read silently• Students practice skills from mini-lessons using their own book or teacher selected

passage• Teacher facilitates 1:1 conferencing and small guided groups

Homework Expectations: Read 20 minutes each evening at least 5 times a week. Complete any work from class as needed.

Foundational Skills

Spelling is mainly taught through word analysis using the following skills:❖ Affixes (prefixes and suffixes)❖ Greek and Latin Roots❖ Shades of Meaning❖ Word Endings (like -ing)❖ Cognates (Spanish and French)❖ Homographs/Homonyms❖ Compound Words

Students that need extra spelling practice will be assigned word lists to study at home. Study strategies will be shared with students.
